Dear Sisters
Welcome to your brand new exciting muslimah
madamme magazine A magazine designed to spe-
cifically catered to your needs.

I want to share with you how the magazine your

holding came together. As a Muslimah intrested in
fashion, arts, culture I felt that our needs werent sat-
isfied interms of finding a platform where we would
could express ourselves as Muslimahs. With one of
my best friends we came up with the idea of ceat-
ing a new fresh fashion & lifestyle magazine which
directly caters to Muslim Women.

Among our Muslim sisters we have, talented art-

ists, great designers, insperational leaders, a great
sense of style, and we need a transetting magazine
to feauture all this. There’s clearly a gap in the mar-
ket for a magazine for an international fashion &
lifestyle magazine which directly caters to practising
muslimah’s.

if your lucky enough you potentially can in-
fluence them to approve your designs.
I am talking about fashion bloggers incase
you haven’t already figured.
Showcase-ing some of the best innovators of
the Fashion world, fashion bloggers are be-
coming the new fashion Journalists.
And it seems not all fashion bloggers are ca-
tering to the obvious fashionista’s needs.
Some are opting to cover niche markets, ca-
tering to specific individuals and their indi-
vidual needs.
Take Twenty-year-old Jana Kossaibati for ex-
ample she is a different type of fashionista.
 
How did you get started in blogging about
Islamic fashion.  ahead what my posts will be for each week.
I started in September 2007 after feeling
frustrated at the lack of anything in the fash-
ion media that was geared towards Muslim
women and their clothing needs.
What does fashion mean to you.
Fashion is a means of expressing myself,
and the way I choose to present myself to
other people.
Is your blog aimed directly at Muslim
woman only.
They are my main aim yes, though I have
many non-Muslim readers.
What is your opinion of other muslim
fashion blog.
There are some great blogs out there
which produce varied content; they’re all
a little bit different.
What was your aim for when you started
the blog.
I aimed to provide an indispensable re-
source for style-conscious Muslimahs in the
UK, and to explore the world of Islamic fash-
ion, and showcase designers and trends.
How have you balanced your other profesion
with writing your blog.
I like being busy – it motivates me to do
more. Obviously the bulk of my time is spent
on my studies, so the blog I usually work on
the evenings and weekends. I also like to plan

when you started your blog.
I didn’t tell them at first, thinking it wouldn’t
really take off and no-one would read it. How-
ever when I started getting media attention
they found out, and were really impressed
and supportive.

What difficulties have you come across whilst
writing for your blog.
Not many, but I do get some negativity from peo-
ple who think that Islam and fashion shouldn’t
mix. I used to reply to all the comments and e-
mails personally, but now I don’t really have the
time for that, and I found that people tend to stick
to their own opinions anyway.
What did it mean for you to be mentioned by
Vogue Magazine and other publications.
(It was Vogue.com, not the magazine!) I was really
pleased that I would be able to educate the larger
public about hijab and what it means to wear it
as a modern Muslim women, as well as of course
gaining more publicity for the blog.
What do you call a fashion statement.
A fashion statement is one which reveals the
wearer’s personality. I suppose you could call hi-
jab a big fashion statement too – as Muslim women
who wear it aren’t afraid to express their beliefs
and values.
What do you think is the future of fashion for
muslim woman.
I think we will see more designers and compa-
nies catering for Muslimahs, and more variety too.
There are many niches such as sportswear, mater-
nity wear, and bridal wear which are stull hugely
underserved. 
How do you think Muslim woman are percieved
by the Media for covering themselves.
The general impression is that Muslim women
are oppressed and isolated, though this is slowly
changing.

What is your opinion on girls who wear
Niqab/Burkha and lastly where do you see
your blog in the future.
Women should be free to choose whatever
they want to wear, so I don’t really have an
opinion on girls who choose to wear niqab,
as that is how they choose to follow their re-
ligion. I don’t have a clear vision for the blog
in the future, but I just hope I can continue
to provide interesting and relevant content
for my readers.
What advice do you have for young muslim
women who are into fashion but struggle to
maintain their faith.
I advise that first and foremost, you need
to learn exactly what hijab requirements are,
because these are the foundations for what
we wear. After that, shop around for mod-
est basics such as jeans, shirtdresses, maxi
skirts, jackets, which you can then style by
adding shoes, jewellery and accessories to
your ta

I have several – I love Chanel, Irna Mutiara
from Indonesia and Rabia Z from the UAE
Do you have a favourite fashion blogger.
The Sartorialist and Suzie from Style Bub-
ble.
What advice do you have for muslim wom-
an who want to follow in your footsteps and
produce a fashion blog.
I’d say you’d need to do your research first
and see what isn’t being catered to, and al-
ways to blog about what you personally find
interesting.
