Working principle
1. Heat energy is transferred into the product through a jacketed vessel wall
causing solvents or moisture residues to evaporate.
2. A rotating agitator (e.g. screw, ribbon or paddle) transports the product along
the vessel wall and helps the vapours to escape to the surface providing a
frequent exchange of particles in contact with the heated surface at the same
time.
3. A vacuum system keeps the vessel under constant vacuum and removes the
vapours from the vessel, having separated dust particles from the vapours in a
dust filter on top of the vessel first. The vacuum within the vessel also reduces
the saturated vapour pressure of the solvent, facilitating drying at much lower
temperatures.
4. For recovery of solvents, a condenser can be installed in combination with a
collection vessel. The drying time and the drying process are dependent on heat
conduction of the solid particles and solvents, pressure and temperature
conditions as well as the speed of the agitator.

Vacuum dryer
Vacuum dryer functions to remove moisture from the crude palm oil. High moisture
content of the purified oil will preclude a further set up of FFA content during storage
and shipment. The oil must be further dried to a final moisture content of below 0.20%
which is the final step in the oil recovery process. The oil will then being sent to oil
storage tank and the process for the oil is finished. Every hour, the reading flow meter at
of the oil will be recorded to know the amount of oil is being sent to storage tank. The
water from vaccuum dryer will be flowing back to the hot water tank to be used as

The oil to be dried by Vacuum Dryer can minimize the moisture contained in the oil until less than
0.08 % with a condition that oil to be processed at a temperature of at least 90C and moisture
concentration does not exceed 0.8 %.
The oil to be processed from purifier will be injected into float tank, in this float tank there is a
taper spindle that serves as automatically valve to keep the constant vacuum in the vacuum
chamber continuously.
In vacuum chamber there are six spray nozzles that inject oil to deflector surface. The oil
released from spray nozzle is in spray shape and cloudy, and then falls gravitaly and strikes the
deflector plate to allow the second cloudy. During oil in cloudy shape the concentration of
moisture will be easy evaporized and sucked readly out by vacuum pump. The dried oil will be
then fallen into vacuum chamber bottom and sucked directly by pump to storage tank.
A level control is connected into vacuum chamber serving to control the level altitude of oil. The
oil fed into vacuum chamber when less than oil injected out, this level control will automatically
open the valve to allow oil to be recirculated into vacuum chamber through by-pass piping. Level
control damaged can result in too high oil level and will not allow the oil coming into vacuum
chamber, and therefore level control switch will work automatically to stop the drying process so
that the unprocessed oil will not be sucked into storage tank.
