associatedcircuitry,ortheEngineBoard.
RAM
TheRAMtestwritestothemicroprocessorRAMspaceandverifiesthatthewritewas
successful.AfailureofthistestmayindicateaproblemwiththeRAMorrelatedcircuitryonthe
EngineBoard.
MARA
ThistestperformsareadwriteoftheMARAregistersandverifiesthatthedatawrittencanbe
readbacksuccessfully.AfailureofthistestmayindicateaproblemwithaMARA,related
circuitryortheEngineBoard.
Sound ROM
ThistestconfirmsthattheSoundROMscanbereadbytheMARAsbyperformingachecksum
oftheSoundROMs.Thecomputedchecksumisthencomparedtothestoredchecksum.A
failureofthistestmayindicateaproblemwithaSoundROM(U47),ortheEngineBoard.
Delay RAM
ThistestperformsaquickreadwriteoftheinternalRAMandverifiesthatthedatawas
successfullywrittenandretained.AfailureofthistestmayindicateaproblemwiththeRAMor
theEngineBoard.

ThistestgeneratesinewavefromMARA,wavesamplelocatedinSoundROM,andplays
throughDACandanalogaudiooutput.Afailureofthistestmayindicateaproblemwitha

Caution:Theoutputlevelofsinewavetestisveryloud!.
MIDI
TheMIDItestperformsaloopbackoftheserialportbysendinga23bytepatternoverthe
externalMIDIlink.ThistestrequiresaMIDIloop(aMIDIcablethatconnectstwoMIDIjacks).
ThetestwillfailifaMIDIcableisnotconnectedbetweentwoMIDIjacks.Besuretorunthis
testwithMIDIcablesconnectedasfollows:

screwsarelongerthantheothersandhavespacerslocatedbetweenthescrewandtherearpanel.

Note: Donotremoveanyotherhardwarefromthisportionoftherearpanel.
6. RemovethetwoscrewsthatsecuretheMIDIjackstotherearpanel.SeeFigure47.
7. RemovetheConnectorBoard.
1. HoldtheConnectorBoardandpositionitsothatthepowerswitch,andtherearpanel
jacksarecorrectlypositionedthroughtherearpanelportionofthetopenclosure.
2. InstallthetwoscrewsthatsecuretheMIDIjackstotherearpanel.SeeFigure47.
3. InstallthefivescrewsthatsecuretheConnectorBoardtotherearpanel.Besuretoplace
aspaceranduseoneofthelongerscrewsatthelocationsnotedinFigure47.

theiropeningsinthetopenclosure.
2. Alignthecenterscrewholesofthethreeholegroupingsonthefrontpaneledgeofthe
boardwiththethreadmarksintheextrusionandinstallthetwoscrewsthatsecurethefront
paneledge.SeeFigure48.
3. Connectribboncablecablesinthefollowingorder.
Caution: BesuretolookforthemarkingontheedgeofthecabledenotingPin1andthatyou
matchitcorrectlywithPin1ontheboard.Makecertainthatthewiresarestraightpriorto
