PURPOSE:
IBA offers student internships/work-study program/Teaching Assistant/Research Assistant
assignments in an effort to provide IBA students the opportunity to apply traditional academic
classroom learning to actual work experience and to provide an opportunity for students who need
financial support. IBA strongly believes that internships are an important tool in recruiting,
developing talent in meeting the needs of today while preparing the workforce of the future.
IBA provides three different programs for IBA students seeking to gain work experience. These are:
a) Paid Student Interns (Summer interns as well as for other times during the year)
b) Work-study program for non-teaching assignments such as CDC, Program Offices,
Alumni Office etc.
c) Teaching Assistants/Research Assistants
SCOPE:
Full time Undergraduate and Graduate students of IBA.
A.

PROCEDURE: INTERNSHIP RECRUITMENT

1. HR will internally invite applications for internship for summer internships as well as for other
times during the year.
2. HR will maintain applications received through the advertisements as well as through referrals on
file.
3. Department Heads will send their intern requirements for summer (if any) by beginning of April
of each year, or for other interns as and when needed, detailing the project/assignment for which
the intern is required. This will enable HR to select the most relevant applications and forward
them to the Department Head.
4. HR will forward the relevant CVs as per the Department Heads requirements.
5. The Department Heads will short list the candidates and inform HR.
6. HR and Department Head will jointly conduct an interview of the candidate(s).
7. HR will issue the selected student(s) an Internship appointment letter, detailing the duration of
their employment, the department to which they will be assigned, and their stipend.
8. For summer internships, the entire process should be completed by the second week of May.

9. Upon completion of the internship and upon the recommendation of the concerned department
head, HR will issue the student an experience letter of successfully completing the internship.
10. The complete record of the student will be kept in HR Department.
DURATION:
The duration of internship will not be more than 6-8 weeks.
STIPEND:
Interns with up to 14 years of education will be paid a stipend of Rs. 5,000/ per month. Students with
more than 14 years of education will be paid Rs.7,000/- per month. The students will not be entitled to
any other payments or benefits.
OTHER RULES:
1. A Departments ability to use paid student interns will be based on their internal budget
constraints.
2. Interns will not be engaged in overtime work.
3. Interns will follow regular office timings and will be bound by IBAs general rules and
regulations regarding conduct.
4. The concerned departmental heads will make every effort to engage the interns in meaningful
projects and tasks, and utilize their services effectively & efficiently.
B. PROCEDURE: WORK-STUDY PROGRAM
HR will maintain applications on file of students interested in work-study at IBA.
BBA / BS 3rd semester students and beyond of IBA will be considered for work-study Program.
Department Heads will send their requirement for a work-study program student resource to HR.
HR will forward the relevant CVs as per the Department Heads requirements.
The Department Heads will short list the candidates and inform HR.
HR and Department Head will jointly conduct an interview of the candidate(s).
HR will issue the selected student(s) an appointment letter, detailing the duration of their
employment, the department to which they will be assigned, and their stipend.
8. Upon completion of the employment and upon the recommendation of the concerned department
head, HR will issue the student an experience letter.

DURATION:
As per decision of Executive Committee Meeting dated August 18, 2008, students will be allowed to
work up to 20 hours per week, so as to not to adversely impact their academics. The student may work
till he/she graduates.
STIPEND:
The students from BBA/BS-III to BBA/BS-VIII will be paid Rs.200/- per hour while students of
MBA/MS III & IV will be paid Rs.250/- per hour. This hourly rate will be the same for students
conducting various tutorial sessions at IBA. The students will not be entitled to any other payments or
benefits.
OTHER RULES:
1. A Departments ability to use paid work-study program students will be based on their internal
budget constraints.
2. Work-study program student employees will not be engaged in overtime work.
3. Work-study program student employees will schedule their 20 weekly hours with mutual
agreement with Department Head. They will be bound by IBAs general rules and regulations
regarding conduct.

C. CRITERIA AND PROCEDURE: TEACHING ASSISTANT (TA) / RESEARCH


ASSISTANT (RA) RECRUITMENT
1. Fulltime and Visiting Faculty members will be eligible to take on an IBA student as a Teaching
Assistant (TA) or a Research Assistant (RA), subject to student load (e.g. more than 45 students
in a class or pedagogy (e.g. case method).
2. Any BBA/BS 5th semester and beyond student of IBA may apply for a TA/RA position at IBA.
3. The student must have already taken the course and have achieved at least B grade in the subject
for which s/he is doing TA-ship.
4. The student must have minimum CGPA of 3.0.
5. Faculty members in the courses seeking TAs/RAs will review applications in light of the criteria
above in 1, 2, 3 & 4, and make a request with justification to the Department Chair, who will
forward his recommendations to the relevant Associate Dean.
6. Associate Dean will determine the need and will approve the TA based on the student load (e.g.
more than 45 students in a class or pedagogy (e.g. case method).
7. One TA should be assisting in at least 2 courses regardless of whether they are assigned

to the same teacher or different ones and whether it is VF or FT faculty.


8. A TA can be assigned to more than one faculty member (fulltime / visiting), e.g. a group of
faculty members (3-4) within the same department.
9. HR will issue the selected student(s) a Teaching Assistant or Research Assistant appointment
letter, detailing the duration of their employment, the faculty member(s) who they will be
assisting, and their stipend.
10. Upon completion of the TA-ship/RA-ship and upon the recommendation of the concerned
department head, HR will issue the student an experience letter.
DURATION:
Not exceeding 20 hours a week. This can either be for one semester, or all semesters in which the
course is being taught till the student graduates, based upon the recommendation of the faculty
member and approval of the Department Chair and Associate Dean.
STIPEND:
1. The students from BBA/BS-III to BBA/BS-VIII will be paid on hourly basis @Rs.200/- per hour.
2. Only those students of MBA I & II, who have done BBA/BS from IBA can be offered TA-ship
as per the above eligibility criteria. While, all students of MBA III & IV will be eligible for TAship.
3. Stipend for graduate students would be on hourly basis @Rs.250/- per hour.
4. Full time MS Students would be paid fixed monthly stipend as per the approved rates.
5. The payment will be made at the end of the month. The students will not be entitled to any other
payments or benefits.
OTHER RULES:
1. The major responsibility of a TA would be to offer tutorials and work with students to upgrade
their knowledge, problem solving skills and competencies and thus raise the overall quality by
minimizing class variance.
2. Attendance in these tutorials will be mandatory for the students identified by the course
instructors. Other students will be welcome to attend these tutorials but their attendance will not
be mandatory.
3. Depending on the course pedagogy, it is possible that tutorials may not be required in the course;
in such cases the course instructor will set the responsibilities of TA as per the requirement of the
course.
4. The course instructor will be responsible for the conduct of the duties and direct supervision of
the TAs assigned to them. A record of the duties performed by the TAs will be entered into ERP
by the course instructor and will be accessible to the course instructors, program coordinators and
the chairpersons.

Chairpersons will meet TAs together with the course instructors on a regular basis to monitor
their performance and progress. Assistant to Chairperson will record a brief summary of these
meetings.
6. Evaluation of the performance of TAs will be judged by the relative progress made by the
students assigned for tutorials as evident from their examination and test scores and assignments.
7. PhD students who are teaching courses at IBA will not be entitled to a TA.

constraints.
