1. When did you last experience a communicaton problem in English?

My last communication problem experience in English was about 4 years ago. I was studying abroad at
Excel English School, where the classes were composed between Brazilians, French, Georgians, Spanish
and Russian people. Needless to say every different nationality had its own accent but the French guy
were, by far, the worst. I simply couldnt count how many times I asked him to repeat his sentences in one
day.

2. About hotspots: what factors increase the possibility about hotspots? What
can be done to reduce them?
Most of the time hotspots occurs in airports that have 2 or more runways, complexes taxiways
design and lot of helicopters and airplanes traffics mixed together. In order to reduce the numbers of
hotspots before been completed, the airports plant should be thoroughly analyzed and its further reforms
should also be very strictly monitored.

3. Datalink: what are the advantages and disadvantages of using text rather than
voice communication?
Studies shows that the more senses you use or stimulate in order to comprehend something the
easier and faster the process is. By all means when you are looking at your charts and listening to the
controllers voice the clearance would probably make more sense and could be less ambiguous once
the intonation may vary in situation to situation. Despite all that, datalink communication can reduce
significantly the controllers load of work.

4. In your opinion, is fly-by-wire safer than a conventional mechanic control

system?
As far as I understand the is no such a thing as safety concerns between conventional and fly-bywire, as long as the cabin crew are totally up to what is going on with the plane. Both systems show
advantages and disadvantages.

5. . In fifty years` time, how do you think flight control systems will be different?
I believe that a lot will happen in the next 50 years. My guess would be that pilots would control the
aircraft only in cases of non-normal situations. The control system would be very basic and easy to deal
where the planes computer would still do a lot of work, just like jet fights nowadays.

6. What do pilots and ATCs need to do to prevent bird or animal strikes?

Actually, it is pretty simple. Report. Most of the time there is no time to act between seeing and avoiding
a flying bird, in order to avoid this type of accident pilots should report as PIREPs or listening to the
ATIS.

7.

Do you know of any incidents involving wildlife loose in airports?

Once in Sidney, Australia, one loose kangaroo made a complete mess by entering on an active runway.
The runway staff needed to call the rangers in order to remove the animal because of Australias law of
kangaroo protection. (Sorry teacher, I made that up in order to complete the homework, Im running out
of ideas)
8.

What problems can animals cause on cargo aircraft?

The worst case scenario would be a loose danger animal in the compartment between the cabin and
the toilet. Some planes, like the 737, when designated to be used in cargo flight the passengers assents

are put out and the cargo goes in. By the time one of the pilots leave the cockpit to use the toilet it could be
too late to return safely and proceed the flight.
9.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of fixed wing aircraft compared
to rotary wing aircraft?

The mean differences between those two are the range and maximum POB. Airplanes can reach higher
distances and with more passengers than helicopters. Nevertheless, helicopters do a much better job when
it comes to landing areas. Most oil platforms uses helicopters to the job because of the short available
space.
10. In

your opinion, what plane revolutionized air travel? How is/was it different

from other planes?

I believe the Comet did. By being the first commercial jet all civil aviation industries open their eyes to a
new future. Despite the fact that Comet had a huge project problem involving the shape of its windows
causing the plane to implode during normal flight, I still believe it revolutionized air travel.
11.

What is your favorite type of plane? Why?

My favorite type are the acrobatic ones. Most of them are very simple and neat. Their design and
performance shows a perfection between technological improvement and nostalgia.
12. What

do you think is the most cause of fires on board planes?

Certainly are cigar buts and oblivious smokers. Unfortunately smoking in airplane toilets are still a thing
to be concerned. People should better know the consequences and airlines should give them a reason, not
only say its prohibited by law.

13.

How can ATC, pilots, aircraft companies maximize fuel efficiency in

aviation?
There are lots of ways to do that but the most efficient ones are flight planning. The crew must know in
which flight levels the plane should that in each situation. Controllers can help a lot by offering better
flight levels in order to help the pilot.
14. What

procedures do pilots and controllers have to follow in case they have a

fuel shortage?
The first thing to be done is: declare an emergency. There is no other way the controller can know your true
situation. Once the emergency is declared the controller must clear all the airspace and runway and treat
the aircraft as its first priority.

15.

What can cause a tail strike?

Tail strikes are mostly caused by too soon aircraft rotation or excessive attitude during landings. It can
also happens when the aircraft is not on the performance envelope.
