Background of the Livelihood Program

UPLiFT stands for Urban Program for Livelihood Finance and Training. We are a Non-Government
Organization (NGO) based in the Philippines specializing in microfinance and social services for the
urban poor. Created in 1993 by Inter Aide of France, we are registered with the Philippine Securities
and Exchange Commission as a non-profit, non-political, and non-sectarian organization. UPLIFT is a
member of the Filipino Association of Foundations.
Based in Manila, Philippines, we reach out to several areas in Metro Manila and the provinces of
Bulacan, Cavite, Bataan, Zambales, Pampanga, Pangasinan and Tarlac. Every year, we help more
than 35,000 urban poor Filipino families through financial and social assistance, giving them the
chance to overcome poverty and become self-reliant.

Action Plan
Pulong Trainings are courses that are being facilitated by UPLiFT for Partners and
non-Partners to enhance their capabilities in managing their personal life, business
capabilities in managing their personal life, business enhancement, socio-cultural,
political-economic and health-environmental awareness that leads them to act on
their social responsibilities and be part of the community development as a whole.
a. Entrepreneurial (Mandatory)
- entrepreneurship, business planning, savings and record keeping
b. Issue Based (Non-Mandatory)
- self-awareness (values formation, gender and development)
- family life (responsible parenting, family budget and reproductive health)
- community awareness (environmental awareness, health and sanitation)
Skills Trainings
These trainings are conducted in the Branches and aim to equip the participants with
the necessary skills, knowledge, attitude and capability in developing a certain
product or services. These will also teach the participants a variety of topics that
can eventually be an income generating activity. Linkages with different agencies to
access training, technologies and other resources that will benefit our partners to
improve their personal orientation as well as their business perpective.

- meat products, fish processing, vegetable and fruit products, native delicacies
b. Non-Food Products
- candle making, soap making, perfume making, fashion accessories
- cosmetology, reflexology
STATUS OF OPERATION
FINANCIAL:
1. Loan
Provision of microloans amounting from PhP1,000 to 150,000 for the entrepreneurial
urban poor intended for business use including but not exclusive to start-up
additional rolling capital, acquisition of assets and equipment, business expansion or
business diversification. All loan contracts are inclusive of a loan capital build-up
which is essentially a savings mobilization scheme. The LCBU is build-up primarily
intended as a built-up reserve to prepare partners to be to be independent from credit.
2. Capital Build-Up
Voluntary mobilization of savings among Partner-Savers. This aims at encouraging and
strengthening the savings habit of Partner-Savers intended for varied future use,
as well as, to ensure that they are sufficiently covered from various risks.
