Bernhard Pietzowski, project leader and Ilona HofstetterHindl, deputy headmistress and Jrgen Brendel, headmaster at

Parkschule Stadtbergen in Germany, were interviewed on the


29th September by two groups of students from class 10thB.
Have you been in Portugal before? If yes, which cities of
Portugal?
Mr. Bernhard Pietzowski: Yes I stayed here in the south of Portugal, in
Faro, Albufeira and Lagos. But it was 38 years ago I was with my girlfriend. We
travelled by train and slept in a tent.
Do you like Portuguese food?
All: Yes I really like it.
Do you know any Portuguese famous person?
All: Of course, Cristiano Ronaldo, he is very famous all over the world.
Would you choose Portugal as a destination to spend your vacations? Why/why
not?
Mr. Bernhard Pietzowski: Yes, for sure. When I arrived here in Sto and Viseu, I
was very surprised, that there are so many mountains and such a lovely landscape.
Mr. Jrgen Brendel and Ms. Ilona Hofstetter-Hindl: Yes, because Portugal has many
beautiful and wonderful places to visit, if we spend our next vacations in Portugal, we
will probably go to the Algarve.
What do you think about Sto?
Mr. Bernhard Pietzowski: I think, it's an ideal place to live....!
Mr. Jrgen Brendel and Ms. Ilona Hofstetter-Hindl: Your town is very calm and
interesting.
What differences have you noticed between the schools in your country and our
school?
Mr. Bernhard Pietzowski: Total new for me is the fact that every student has an
electronic identity card to enter the school. I don't know any school in Germany that
uses this system.
Mr. Jrgen Brendel and Ms. Ilona Hofstetter-Hindl: Your school is much bigger than
ours.

What is your opinion of Portuguese people/students?


Mr. Bernhard Pietzowski: You are the only Portuguese students I know, you are very
friendly, open-minded and your English is very good.
What are your favourite sports?
Mr. Bernhard Pietzowski: Basketball because when I was young I used to play
basketball, when I stopped playing I started to coach , and right now Im just a
partner of a basketball team.
Mr. Jrgen Brendel: Ice hockey and football.
Ms. Ilona Hofstetter-Hindl: Ice hockey.
What are is your football team?
Mr. Jrgen Brendel and Ms. Ilona Hofstetter-Hindl: Augsburg
Which languages do you speak?
Mr. Jrgen Brendel: English and German.
Ms. Ilona Hofstetter-Hindl: English, German, Italian and French.
How do you say: hello, thank you, please?
In Bavaria: gr Gott, danke und bitte
Do you think that your native language is harder than English?
Mr. Jrgen Brendel and Ms. Ilona Hofstetter-Hindl: Yes, because while in German
for some words there are two forms: one for feminine and another for masculine, in
English there is only one form for the two genders.
Which part of Germany are you from?
Mr. Bernhard Pietzowski: Im from a town near Munich, North German, and my
town is very old, it was founded by the Romans.
What places should I visit in your country?
Mr. Bernhard Pietzowski: Castles, parks, gardens and much more.
The best cities to visit in Germany are Munich and Berlin.
Mr Bernhard Pietzowski, Mr. Jrgen Brendel and Ms. Ilona Hofstetter-Hindl were
very friendly and it was quite easy to communicate with them. They are fond of
Portuguese food and Portuguese landscape. We look forward to visiting their town
which is near Munich in the North of Germany and meeting their pupils.

What languages do you speak?


I speak Spanish, French and English
fluently, and of course, Italian, my native
language.
How do you say: hello, thank you, please?
Hello is "ciao", Thank you is "grazie" and Please is "per favore"(Hugo)
What sports do you like?
Personally I dont like sports, but I support rugby because I have a child who plays
rugby and I watch all his games.
What card games do you play in your country?
In my country we play typical card games like Buraco and Escala 40, and we also
play Poker in Italy.
Do you know any Portuguese famous person?
A part from the football players: Figo, Ronaldo and the coach Mourinho, another
name which comes to my mind when I think about Portugal is the famous Fado
singer Amlia Rodrigues.
Have you been in Portugal before? If yes, which cities of Portugal?
I have never been in Portugal before.
What do you think about Sto?
We did not have the opportunity to visit the town itself but I liked the hilly
surroundings with the characteristic Mediterranean scrub and the "Capela de nossa
Senhora de Esperana, which literally took my breath away!
Would you choose Portugal as a destination to spend your vacations? Why/why
not?
Definitely! The landscapes are beautiful and relaxing, the architectures and the
artworks (both the old and the new ones) are awesome, the people are warm-hearted
and the food is very good.

Do you like Portuguese food?


Yes, especially cod fish.
What differences have you noticed between your school and our school?
My school is older than yours, it was built in the 70s and it is a professional school
that has agriculture as a main subject. In my school students only have only one day
with classes in the afternoon per week, having the other afternoons free for studying
and practising sports.
What is your opinion of Portuguese people/students?
The people in general are very sociable and helpful, very similar to Italians, so I can
say that I really felt at home.
What places should I visit in your country?
Italy is full of interesting places to visit! There are multiple destinations according to
your tastes. There are two cities in north eastern Italy that you cannot miss: Verona
for the romantic lovers and Venice, a unique pedestrian city, full of canals and little
streets, far from hustle and bustle of traffic jams, where every stone and every
building is a work of art or a piece of history. But for the mountain lovers there are
the beautiful Dolomiti and for those who like the sea, southern Italy is the right place.
Ms. Graziella Turatti told us a bit about how Italian schools work, how their
timetable is and about when her school was built. She told us about games they play
and she suggested us places to visit in Italy we look forward to see one day!

Francisca: What differences have you noticed between the schools in your
country and our school?
The buildings of our school are smaller than yours. We only have one building and
one gym and you have three buildings and one gym. Your teacher's room is also six
times bigger than ours.
Francisca: Do you know any Portuguese famous people?
Of course, we know one famous Portuguese person, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ins: Would you choose Portugal as a destination to spend your vacation?
Yes! But the problem is that flying to Portugal is too expensive. We know a lot of
people who would love to visit Portugal and others who came to Portugal and
recommended it to us.
Ins: What places should I visit in your country?
Everyone should visit the mountains of southland and the salt mines, its pretty
amazing.
Mariana: What do you think about Sto?
We think that Sto is a friendly place and it has amazing streets.
Nelson: Do you think your native language is harder than English? How do you
say Hello, Thank You and Please?
Yes, its harder than English and we say Dzin dobry, Dzikuj and Prosz.
Diva: What are your favourite sports?
We love to run, play volleyball and cross country ski.

Diva: Have you been in Portugal before? If yes which cities of Portugal did you
visit?
We visited Lisbon, Porto and Viseu.
Hugo: Do you like Portuguese food?
The Portuguese food is amazing and different. But we really love the company of the
people more because people are so friendly.
Hugo: What is your opinion of Portuguese people?
Portuguese people are very open-minded and also sociable, we loved your
presentation and we think that you are all so kind and friendly.
It was an interesting interview. We learned a little bit about schools of Poland, their
customs and the best places to visit there. We also practiced English language and it
was good to actually talk to real people from a different country using English. We

What differences have you noticed between the
schools in your country and our school?
We noticed differences the cycles. In Spain we
have kindergarten (3-6 years old), primary school
(6-11 years old) and three cycles of two years.

Do you know any Portuguese famous person?


We know Mariza and Amlia Rodrigues.
Would you choose Portugal as a destination to spend your vacations? Why/why
not?
Yes because the Algarve that is a good place to spend holidays.
What places should I visit in your country?
We recommend you to visit Toledo, South of Spain, Seville, Granada, Madrid.
What do you think about Sto?
Sto is a very nice town with a lot of green areas and nice atmosphere.
Which languages do you speak?
We speak French, English and Spanish.
Do you think that your native language is harder than English?
I believe writing French is harder than English. Spanish grammar is harder than
English grammar.
How do you say: hello, thank you, please?
Hola, Grcias, por favor.
What are your favourite sports?
We like football and walking.

Yes. We have already visited Lisbon and the Algarve.

Yes, especially Bacalhau Brs and Bolinhos de Bacalhau.
What is your opinion of Portuguese people/students?
We liked your oral presentation, it was really good and you have such a good level of
English.
Annie Gayral Cheminade and Nuria de los Reyes de la Rosa were really helpful and
friendly. They both like Portuguese food in particular some of our most popular
codfish dishes. We look forward to meet them again and their students in the future.
