Path of Logic

Womens Group
Nichole Baker

Objective:
To gather ten likeminded influential women in the mountain town of
Durango, Colorado and encourage connection to one another, and to
promote creativity by organizing teaching sessions and activities that
are new to the group. These activities are centered on community
members who are experts in their niche hobbies-entrepreneurial
endeavors. In exchange for the donated time of the guides, the
women will blog and share their experiences following each activity, as
well as the role of the guide within the community.

Benefit to the ladies:

Exposure to many new diverse experiences.


Building of relationships with other motivated women.
Community networking.
Education of what our community has to offer hidden behind the
scenes, and the chance to give back through writing, and
volunteering in a multitude of ways.

Benefit to the guides:


The ability to network and teach about their businesses/passions.
Receive promotion and advertisements in the way of
testimonials and blogging.
Depending on the goals of the guides, the women can also assist
by working and volunteering during the session, and also in the
future.
Start day of Activities: March 1st
Cost to Women: $5.00 per activity
Number of Activities from March to December: 17
Side Purpose of project: To appeal to companies to support the
group effort to fundraise for a pathology project in Uganda, Africa to
teach breast cancer diagnostic skills to medical students.
Examples of proposed guided activities:
1. Lizzie Gregory, owner of Love Krouts will teach about her unique
local business of fermenting green tea with local raw honey, and
local organic fruits and herbs. The group will participate in
starting the fermenting process, while tasting the end product
and assisting in that batches bottling. She will also be a group
participant and will have the chance to network with other small
businesses and the women of the group.
2. Nichole Baker, myself, will take the group through a tour of the
pathology laboratory at Mercy Regional Medical Center in
Durango and will show the entire diagnostic process of a breast
case, from dissection, to tissue processing, making of slides, and
manual staining. Then the group will receive the lecture given to
the medical students in Uganda regarding breast cancer, thus
connecting the group to the goal of supporting the future travels
to promote health, with the main focus on women.
3. Liz Blair, new resident to Durango and aspiring bee keeper will
teach the group about her past experiences with bees, and their
important role to our ecosystem, as well as their natural
tendencies, while using the group to help her build her farm. Liz
is also a group member and will have the ability as a newcomer
to learn as much as she can about the community.

4. Jeff, a PhD and professor at Fort Lewis University in the field of
geology, will hike with the girls on a local trail, while educating
the group about the fascinating geological features in the
backyard of Durango.
5. Dylan Knight, long time fly fishing and river enthusiast will
educate the group about fly fishing on a raft trip to his favorite
spot on the animas river.
6. Jeremy Thompson, previous bike mechanic/downhill mountain
biking coach will educate the group about fine-tuning a mountain
bike derailleur.
7. Garrett and Lisa ford, owners of EasyCare, will teach the group
about endurance horse racing, and how they run their high
altitude-training ranch.
8. Kate, a chef at a local natural grocery store and coauthor of two
recipe books, will meet the group at a large industrial sized
kitchen to assist in meal prep for the week focused on the busy
lifestyles of athletes with a desire to sustain healthy, locally
sourced diets.
Content of the Blog:
One page containing photos and bios for all 10 women
Nature Nugget: summary of a 5-minute lesson given by one
member at the beginning of each meeting.
Bio, photo and contact info of the presenter.
Summary of the activity and personal feedback to the
experience.
Photos of the activity.
Additional sponsors of activity related equipment or supplies,
and contribution to Uganda trip.
Random fact about Durango, Colorado history or culture.
Random fact about Uganda, history or culture.
