Tools, Equipment and Devices for Repairing
Audio Products and System
Basic Hand Tools

Driving Tools

Screw Driver is a device specifically designed to insert and tighten, or to loosen

and remove screws. The screwdriver comprises a head or tip which engages with
a screw, a mechanism to apply torque by rotating the tip, and some way to
position and support the screwdriver. A typical hand screwdriver comprises an
approximately cylindrical handle of a size and shape to be held by a human
hand, and an axial shaft fixed to the handle, the tip of which is shaped to fit a
particular type of screw. The handle and shaft allow the screwdriver to be
positioned and supported and to apply torque when rotated.

Handle
Head or Tip

Slotted Screw Driver is used to drive or fasten negative slotted screws.

Phillips Screw Driver is used to drive or fasten positive slotted screws. It is a

screw driver that could take greater torque and could provide tighter fastenings.

Torx Screw Driver Set is used to drive or fasten six pointed star screws. In
modern electrical appliances, they use screws with heads of non-standard
shape to prevent users of the device from easily disassembling them.

Hex (Allen Wrench) is used to drive or fasten hexagonal screws. The head has
hexagonal hole turned by an Allen key. An Allen key is a hexagonal shaped
wrench bended in letter-L. The Allen key was invented by an American, Gilbert
F. Heublein.

Jeweler's Screwdriver Set This is a set of small screw drivers composed of

slotted and Philips screw drivers.

10

Socket Wrench Is a type of wrench or tightening tool that uses separate,

removable sockets to fit many different sizes of fittings and fasteners, most
commonly nuts and bolts. It generally includes a ratcheting mechanism that
allows the nut to be tightened or loosened with a continuous motion, rather
than requiring that the wrench be removed and refitted after each turn.
Typically, a lever behind the socket switches the wrench between tightening and
loosening modes. The sockets attach to the ratchet through a square fitting that
locks onto them and come in four common sizes: 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch, 1/2 inch,
and 3/4 inch.

Soldering Tools

Soldering Iron is a device for applying heat to melt solder for attaching two
metal parts. A soldering iron is composed of a heated metal tip and an insulated
handle. Heating is often achieved electrically, by passing a current, supplied
through an electrical cord, through a heating element. For electrical work, wires
are usually soldered to printed circuit boards, other wires, or small terminals. A
low-power iron (15-30 Watts) is suitable for this work.

11

Some soldering irons have interchangeable tips for different types of work. Fine
round or chisel tips are typically used for electronics work. A new tip needs to
be coated, heated, and then covered with solder before its first use. This
procedure is called "tinning". The tinning forms a liquid layer which facilitates
the transfer of heat to the work piece. A dirty tip does not transfer heat well. The
tip needs to be kept coated with a shiny layer of solder by occasional wiping and
applying solder directly to the tip.
Soldering Tool Stand is a place of the soldering iron to keep them away from
flammable materials. The stand often comes with a sponge and flux pot for
cleaning the tip.

Desoldering Sucker is used to remove or to solder components from a circuit

for the propose of troubleshooting, repairing and removing components.

Splicing Tools
Long Nose is used for holding, bending and stretching the lead of electronics
component or connecting wire.

12

Side Cutters are wire-cutting pliers. Though they are not used to grab or turn
anything, they are useful to cut wire.

Wire Stripper is a pair of opposing blades much like scissors or wire cutters.
The addition of a center notch makes it easier to cut the insulation without
cutting the wire. This type of wire stripper is used by rotating it around the
insulation while applying pressure in order to make a cut around the insulation.
Since the insulation is not bonded to the wire, it then pulls easily off the end.

Notch

Boring Tools
12V Mini-Drill is used to bore or drill hole in the printed circuit board (pcb).

13

Portable Electric Drill is used for boring hole/s in the plastics chassis or metal
chassis with the used of drill bits.

Metal Files are hand tool used to shape metals by grinding. A file series of
sharp, parallel ridges or teeth. Most files have a narrow, pointed tang at one end
to which a handle can be fitted.
Flat Files are parallel in width and tapered in thickness They are used for flat
surfaces and edges.
Round File also called rat-tail files is gradually tapered and is used for many
tasks that require a round tool, such as enlarging round holes or cutting a
scalloped edge.
Narrow Pointed
Tang

Round File
Flat File

Cutting Tools - are used for cutting materials.

Utility Knife is a common tool used in cutting various trades and crafts for a
variety of purposes.

14

Hacksaw is a saw for cutting metal. Some of them have pistol grips which keep
the hacksaw firm and easy to grip. The small hand-held hacksaws consist of a
metal arch with a handle that fits around a narrow, rigid blade. The blade has
many small saw teeth along one side. It can either be attached such that the
teeth face away from the handle, resulting in sawing action by pushing. On the
push stroke, the arch will be bent a little, releasing the tension on the blade.
The blade is normally quite brittle, so care needs to be taken to prevent brittle
fracture of the blade.
Pistol Grip

Blade
Handle
Auxiliary Tools
Ball-peen Hammer is a type of hammer used in metalworking. The ball-peen
hammer remains useful for many tasks such as tapping punches and chisels.
The original function of the hammer was to "peen" riveted or welded material so
that it will exhibit the same elastic behavior as the surrounding material.
Specifically, striking the metal imparts a stress at the point of impact which
results in strain-hardening of that area. Strain hardening raises the elastic limit
of a material into the plastic range without affecting its ultimate strength. A
strain-hardened material will not deform under the same low stresses as a nonhardened material. Most metals can be "worked" by such methods until they
lose all of their ductile characteristics and become strong but brittle

15

Magnifying Glass with a convex lens is used to magnify an object. The lens is
usually mounted in a frame with a handle (see image). Roger Bacon is the
original inventor of the magnifying glass. A magnifying glass works by creating a
magnified virtual image of an object behind the lens. The distance between the
lens and the object must be shorter than the focal length of the lens for this to
occur. Otherwise, the image appears smaller and inverted, and can be used to
project images onto surfaces. The framed lens may be mounted on a stand,
keeping the lens at the right distance from the table, and therefore at the right
distance from the object on the table. The latter applies if the object is small and
also if the height is adjustable. Some magnifying glasses are foldable with builtin light.

Paint Brush made of bristles set in handle is used for cleaning dirty parts of a
circuit or an object.

16

Advance Electronic Equipment

Power Supply
It is a reference to a source of electrical power. A device or system that
supplies electrical or other types of energy to an output load or group of loads is
called a power supply unit or PSU.

Signal Generator
It is also known variously as a test signal generator, function generator,

tone generator, arbitrary waveform generator, or frequency generator is an

electronic device that generates repeating electronic signals (in either the analog
or digital domains). It is generally used in designing, testing, troubleshooting,
and repairing electronic or electro-acoustic devices; though they often have
artistic uses as well.

Multimeter
It is known as a multi-tester or a volt/ohm meter or VOM.It is an

electronic measuring instrument that combines several functions in one unit. A

standard multimeter may include features such as the ability to measure
voltage, current and resistance. There are two categories of multimeters; analog
multimeters and digital multimeters (often abbreviated DMM.) A multimeter can
be a hand-held device useful for basic fault finding and field service work or a
bench instrument which can measure to a very high degree of accuracy. They
17

can be used to troubleshoot electrical problems in a wide array of industrial and

household devices such as batteries, motor controls, appliances, power
supplies, and wiring systems.

Analog Tester

Digital Tester

Digital Multimeter (DMM)

Modern multimeters are often digital due to their accuracy, durability and
extra features. In a DMM the signal under test is converted to a voltage and an
amplifier with an electronically controlled gain preconditions the signal. It
displays the quantity measured as a number, which prevents parallax errors.

Digital Multimeter
Oscilloscope
An oscilloscope (sometimes abbreviated CRO, for cathode-ray oscilloscope,
or commonly just scope or O-scope) is a type of electronic test equipment that
allows signal voltages to be viewed, usually as a two-dimensional graph of one
or more electrical potential differences (vertical axis) plotted as a function of
time or of some other voltage (horizontal axis).

18

Analog type
An extra feature available in some analogue scopes is called 'storage'. This

feature allows the trace pattern that normally decays in a fraction of a second to
remain on the screen for several minutes or longer. An electrical circuit can
then be deliberately activated to store and to erase the trace on the screen.

Analog (Storage Type) Oscilloscope

Digital
The digital storage oscilloscope, or DSO for short, is now the preferred

type for most industrial applications, although simple analogue CROs are still
used by hobbyists. It replaces the unreliable storage method used in analogue
storage scopes with digital memory, which can store data as long as required
without degradation.

Digital Oscilloscope

Frequency Counter
A frequency counter is an electronic instrument, or component of one that

is used for measuring frequency.

TECHNICAL TERMS
Potential Differences. In physics, it is the potential difference between two
points is the amount of work that would need to be done on a unit
electric charge to move it from one point to the other against an
electric field.
Siemens. It is the SI derived unit of electric conductance. It is equal to
inverse ohm. It is named after the German inventor and industrialist
Ernst Werner von Siemens, and is equivalent to the previously used
designation of this unit, the mho.
Solder. It is a fusible metal alloy with a melting point or melting range of
90 to 450 C (200 to 840 F), used in a process called soldering where
it is melted to join metallic surfaces. It is especially useful in
electronics and plumbing.
Troubleshooting. It is a form of problem solving. It is the systematic search
for the source of a problem so that it can be solved. It is often a
process of elimination - eliminating potential causes of a problem. It is
used in many fields such as system administration and electronics.
Voltage. It is also sometimes also called electric or electrical tension. It is
the difference of electrical potential between two points of an electrical
or electronic circuit, expressed in volts.
Voltage Drop. It is the reduction in voltage in an electrical circuit between
the source and load.
Resistor. I a component made of material that opposes the flow of current
and therefore has some value of resistance.
Rotary Switch. Electromechanical device that has a rotating shaft
connected to one terminal capable of making, breaking a connection to
one or more other terminals.
Schematic Diagram. Is an illustration of an electrical or electronic circuit
with the components represented by their symbol.
Secondary
Winding.
Is an output winding of a transformer. Winding that is
connected to a load.
Short Circuit. Is also called a short. Low resistance connection between
two points in a circuit typically causing excessive current.
Soldering. Is a process of joining two metallic surfaces to make an
electrical contact by melting solder (tin and lead) across them.
Soldering Iron. Is a tool with an internal heating element used to heat
surfaces being soldered to the point where the solder becomes molten.
Substrate Is a mechanical insulating support upon which a device is
fabricated.
Switch. Electrical device having two states, ON (closed) or OFF (open).
Test. Sequence of operations intended to verify the correct operation or
malfunctioning of a piece of equipment or system.
Transformer. Is an inductor with two or more windings.

This schematic diagram is the latest at the time of printing and
subject to change without notice.

Remarks:
The power circuit contains a circuit area which uses a separate power
supply to isolate the connection.
The circuit is defined by Hot and Cold indications in the schematic
diagram.
Take precautions.
Note:
All circuits, except the power circuit are cold.
Precautions:

Do not touch the hot part or the hot and cold parts at the same time
or you will be shocked.

Do not short circuit the hot and cold circuits or the fuse may blow and
parts may break.

Do not connect an instrument such as an oscilloscope to the hot and

cold circuits simultaneously or the fuse may blow.

Connect the body of the appliance to the earth ground.

Make sure to disconnect the power plug before removing the chassis.

20

OPERATION SHEET 3.1

PROCEDURE IN REPAIRING AUDIO - VIDEO PRODUCTS

Stay away from large and heavy transformers and avoid being
barefooted or wet when servicing any electronic device.
In case of doubt, keep the device unplugged from the AC outlet.

The first thing we must do is to measure the voltage between both

pins of the main power supply capacitor which is shown below.

In USA where the outlet voltage is about 120V AC, there must be
about
140
to
170VDC
over
the
capacitor.
In countries like England where the voltage is 220V, there must be
about 280 to 340V over this capacitor. If there is no voltage over this
capacitor or the voltage is too low, there's no need to check the
switching power supply.

The problem may be:

1. blown fuse;
2. blown low value resistor somewhere between the AC plug and the
Capacitor;
3. the main switch may be bad; and
4. there must be some broken trace on the PCB.
Notice that some TV sets have small power supply apart from the main
power supply which is called stand-by power supply. This maybe caused
by a power supply failure or some shorts on the secondary side. You are
more likely to find the failure quickly if you start by the secondary side.
21

In these cases there is a relay which turns on the main power supply.

See the most common failures:

In the first place the fly-back, which is also called as Fly Back
Transformer (FBT))

If the problem is the fly-back, the output voltage decreases. Check the
B+ pin of the fly-back from the PCB.
To check the Horizontal Output Tranformer, proceed the tests found
below.
Remove the TV set from TV AC outlet.
Set the analog multimeter to the 100 ohms scale, and place the red
probe on the collector and the black probe on the emitter as shown
below.
If you find low resistance, there is no problem in this case.

22

Now place to probe the other way around as shown below

In this case, the resistance is higher than what is in the first case.

If the resistance in both cases is the same, the HOT is probably

shorted.
Remove the HOT and check it again outside the PCB.
If the resistance remains the same, the HOT must be replaced.
If you replace the HOT, you must replace also the snubber capacitor.
It's the 1600V capacitor which is linked to the collector of the HOT.
If you don't replace it, there is a risk of the HOT to become shorted
again.
They are fast recover diodes linked to the secondary side of the power
supply.
If one of these diodes become shorted, the power supply may be
blocked.
Shorted horizontal yoke may also act as a shorted fly-back.

23

Suppose the power supply has a zero volt.

If you remove the yoke plug and the power supply increases to 100V,
then the yoke is shorted
Note: Only the horizontal yoke can block the power supply. As a
matter of precaution, keep the PCB always from your face when the
device is plugged to the AC outlet.

25

Hold the left and right side of the PCB and slowly pull it, as shown in
the picture below.

Reverse the Printed Circuit Board to servicing mode position.

Isolate the defects with the use of the given tools and equipment.

26

After isolating the defects, remove the defective part(s) and replaced
with the same specification.

Return the PCB to its original position.

Get the receiver cover and fix the power cord to avoid hindrances.

27

INFORMATION SHEET 1.1

Low-End Cell Phone
Introduction
Cellular radio telephone, also called cellular telephone
or cell phone, low-powered, lightweight radio
transceiver
(a
combination
transmitter-receiver)
provides voice telephone service to mobile users.
Cellular telephone operates as portable telephone;
whereas; the extensive wire line networks are operated
by local telephone companies. Cellular phones are not
restricted by a cord. Cellular telephones have become
very popular with professionals and consumers as a
way to communicate while away from their regular
phones; while traveling or when in remote locations
lacking regular phone services.
Cellular radio telephone mechanics
Both cellular radio and PCS use high frequency radio
waves to transmit calls. High frequency waves have short
wavelength that passes by a given point at a very high
rate. High frequency waves provide better sound quality
than lower frequency waves such as (AM radio) and more
reliable cellular links to and from the tower over a short
distance.
Now cellular phones have several features which have
liquid crystal screen that can display the telephone
number that is being called the number of the incoming
call or a short text message.

INFORMATION SHEET 1.2

TOOL

Tweezers

Multi-Tester

DESCRIPTION
This is a convenient
tool to hold small
parts.

DRAWING

Multi-tester can
measure various
electric values such
as the measurement
of the resistor value,
the measurement of
the voltage, the
measurement of the
current, the
confirmation of the
polarity of the light
emitting diode.

20

Stabilized power unit

Oscilloscope

Digital Multi-meter

Soldering Iron

Soldering Lead

The electronic
circuits which use a
transistor, IC and so
on cannot be directly
worked by AC100 V.
Usually; those
powers are from
several V to tens of V
in the direct current.
Therefore the power
supply unit becomes
needed to confirm
the operation of the
circuit that was
completed. The
power supply voltage
differs the circuit,
and then the power
unit that the voltage
is able to change is
convenient for the
power supply device.
This tool is used to
observe waveform of
the voltage.

This is the
measurement
receptacle which
displays the voltage,
the electric current,
the other
measurement result
in the digital.
Tool with an internal
heating element
used to heat
surfaces being
soldered to the point
where the solder
becomes molten.
It is a metallic alloy
used to join two
metal surfaces.

21

Solder pump

De-soldering wire

Magnifying glass

Needle Pliers

Wire Cutter (Nipper)

This is the tool that

can absorb the
melted solder with
the repulsion power
of the spring that
was built in with the
principle of the
piston.
This is made of thin
copper net wire like
a screen cable in a
coaxial cable. Like
water it inhales to
cloth, the solder is
absorbed to the net
wire by a capillary
tube phenomenon.
It is a special glass
used to enlarge the
components values,
objects and
specifications.
These are the pliers
with thin cutting
tips. They are very
convenient to
restrain and also to
hold the parts at
narrow place. They
are used to make
straight the
component lead.
This tool is used in
cutting the wire or
the component lead.
It isn't possible to
use when the
thickness of the wire
doesn't fit. Be
careful so as not to
be injured because
the blade is sharp.

TECHNICAL TERMS
Tweezers. This is a convenient tool to hold small parts.
Multi-Tester. Multi-tester can measure various electric values such as the
measurement of the resistor value, the measurement of the voltage,
the measurement of the current, the confirmation of the polarity of
the light emitting diode.
Stabilized Power Unit .The electronic circuits which uses a transistor, IC and
cannot be directly worked by AC100 V. Usually, those powers are
from several V to tens of V in the direct current.
Oscilloscope. This tool is used to observe wave form of the voltage.
Digital Multi-meter. This is the measurement receptacle which displays the
voltage, the electric current, the other measurement result in the
digital.
Soldering Iron. It is a tool with an internal heating element used to heat
surfaces being soldered to the point where the solder becomes
molten.
Solder pump. This is a tool that can absorb the melted solder with the
repulsion power of the spring that was built in with the principle of
the piston.
Soldering Lead. It is a metallic alloy used to join two metal surfaces.
De-soldering wire. This is made of thin copper net wire like a screen cable in a
coaxial cable. Like water it inhales to cloth, the solder is absorbed
to the net wire by a capillary tube phenomenon.
Needle Pliers. This pliers with thin cutting tip is very convenient to restrain,
and also to hold the parts at narrow place. It is used to make
straight the component lead.
Wire Cutter (Nipper). This tool is used in cutting the wire or the component
lead. It isn't possible to use when the thickness of the wire doesn't
fit. Be careful so as not to be injured because the blade is sharp.
Volt-Ohm Meter. It is also known as a multitester. Test equipment used to
check AC DC Voltages current in a circuit and resistance of any
component out of the circuit.
Troubleshooting. It is a systematic approach to locate the cause of a fault in an
electronic circuit or system.
Schematic Diagram. It is an illustration of an electrical or electronic circuit
with the component represented by their symbols.

When dismantling any phone, great care should be taken to ensure that no
damage is caused any of the parts. Rough handling may result in severe
damage of many parts, and if proper anti-static procedures are not followed,
electrostatic damage may result in any electronic component.
Before commencing, it is recommended that the correct tools be purchased for
the job in hand at the very least. You will require a Torx T6 screwdriver.
Please remember that this is an exploded view and not a step-by-step guide;
however, so long as you're careful and take your time and follow the diagram
carefully you shouldn't have too many problems.

INFORMATION SHEET 1.2

ENHANCEMENT FEATURES OF A COMMON HIGH END CELLULAR PHONE
( N6600, N95 )
The obvious choice for customizing Nokia phones is the Nokia written PC-Suite.
PC-Suite has the major advantage of being freely distributed, but it doesn't work
with all handsets and is weak in certain areas. First of all you need to decide
how you intend to connect your handset to your computer. On many phones
you'll have the choice of cable, infra red or Bluetooth connectivity, but on some
of the lower handsets you'll not officially have any of these options (e.g. the
Nokia 3310 never officially had any connectivity options from Nokia, but third
part cables and applications are available).
If you have the option of Infra-red or Bluetooth, It is strongly suggested
to take one of these routes rather than the cable. Whilst the cable will be
faster (and probably more reliable) you'll find that Nokia very quick to change
the connectivity options for their phones so you will likely end up purchasing a
new cable each time you change your phone. At least with Infra red or
Bluetooth they are recognized and supported standards that are common to
many manufacturers. If you still decide to prefer a cabled solution, you
should be aware that many third party (copied or cloned) cables based on the
Prolific chipset will not function with PC-Suite, so check with your supplier
before buying.

OPERATING SOFTWARE FOR ADDITIONAL FEATURES

Symbian OS is a proprietary operating system designed for mobile

devices, with associated libraries, user interface frameworks and reference
implementations of common tools produced by Symbian Ltd. It is a
descendant of Psion's EPOC and runs exclusively on ARM processors.
Symbian is currently owned by Nokia (47.9%), Ericsson (15.6%), Sony
Ericsson (13.1%), Panasonic (10.5%), Siemens AG (8.4%) and Samsung
(4.5%). Although BenQ acquired the mobile phone subsidiary of Siemens
AG, the Siemens AG stake in Symbian did not pass to BenQ.
Logomanager was (and still is) one of the best applications for customizing
Logos, ring tones, start-up animations and a few other bits and pieces.
Unfortunately Logomanager is of little use for newer handsets and so is
only really to be considered if you have a mono screened Nokia.
MobiMB is designed to allow you to browse the contents of your phone
almost as though they were a drive on your computer. It allows you to
transfer (to and from the phone) logos, wallpaper, ring tones, games,
applications and basically any user content available on the phone.
Mobius/PX is basically a phonebook & SMS management utility. It's the
perfect compliment to MobiMB and combined with that will give most
people the functionality they need to manage their phone.
Polyphonix Studio is a fully featured MIDI/SP-MIDI editor. If you're
serious about creating and editing your own polyphonic (MIDI) ring tones
it would appear to be the ideal application.
Oxygen Phone Manager II - This software supports most phones in the
current Nokia range (Symbian excepted). There really isn't much that
Oxygen won't do - phone book & SMS synchronization, upload (and
download) of content, ring tone editing facilities etc. The interface is (in
my opinion) cluttered and the licensing is overly restrictive in that it will
only function with the registered handset for a period of one year.

OPERATION SHEET 2.1

TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURE OF A HIGH END
CELLULAR PHONE

1. First, prepare the tools.

2. Use small screwdriver (*sd), torx 6(*t6) and a small pin (*sp) for prying the
cover up.
3. Turn off phone, remove back cover, battery, mmc card and your simcard.
4. Insert the small screwdriver in one of these whole and "feel" the little tap
in there and then push. You will see the cover lifting a bit, next take the
pin and start at the bottom of the phone, pushing it in between the cover
and the phoneshell. Remember to keep constant pressure on the side
while prying along the bottom and lifting the cover taps.

34

5. When you get all around the phone to the next whole(red circles), remove
the sd from the other whole and insert it to the next. Apply pressure,
cover will lift, and you can pry it open with the sp. Again, remove the sd
from the whole and use it to lirk the cover moving towards the top of the
phone, one tap at the time, doing it on both sides.

6. This should be the result after 10 minutes of work.

Use the t6 for unscrewing the screws located here:

35

7. After unscrewing the screws, four taps are holding the screen part and
the PCB in place.

8. Use either the sd or sp to lirk down the spaces between shell and screen
part. A little click tells you when you hit the tap. It doesn't require any
force, just find the tap and apply a little pressure. You should now be
looking at this:
36

9. In removing the PCB you need to turn it so that the PCB will be placed on
the table and gently press on the PCB, in the holes for the mmc and sim
card spaces. The result is this:

10.

You have disassembled now your Nokia 6600.

OPERATION SHEET 3.1

REPAIRING PROCEDURE ON A COMMON HIGH END
CELLULAR PHONE UNIT (N6600)

When dismantling any phone, great care should be taken to ensure that
no damage is caused to any of the parts. Rough handling may result in severe
damage of many parts, and if proper anti-static procedures are not followed,
electrostatic damage may result in any electronic component.
Before commencing, it is recommended that the correct tools are
purchased for the job in hand at the very least. You will require a Torx T6
screwdriver.

Step 1. Protect the screen using a plastic film or similar material.

Step 2. Remove the rear cover by pressing the release button (1), and
then sliding the cover towards the direction of (2).

Step 3. To remove the camera surround, use a plastic shim at point (1)
shown below, and twist the surround clockwise to release it.

42

Step 4. You can now lift the camera surround away.

Step 5. The fascia removal steps shown below are using a proper jig which is a
bit trickier. If you don't have access to the jig, take note of the two pins on the
picture shown below. Force the fascia and rear cover apart enough for you to
get a plastic shim in place. Take note of the green mark in the first picture, and
using your T6 screwdriver through the hole in the back of the phone chassis
instead of the pins on the jig. Insert your plastic shim (not too far in) and slide it
to the corner of the handset to release the first locking clip. Now, slide it to the
middle of the bottom of the fascia to release the second clip. Next, move to the
other side of the phone and repeat the procedure this will have released all the
clips at the bottom of the phone. With the bottom of the fascia unclipped, you
can use your plastic shim to release the remaining clips at the points shown in
the photos below. You should be able to release these clips by simply inserting
the shim at the points shown and gently but firmly pressing the clips.

43

Step 6. With all the clips separated, you can now lift the front fascia off the
phone.

Step 7. The keypad is easily removed by simply lifting it away.

44

Step 8. The joystick button easily lifts away from the phone.

Step 9. Remove the four Torx T6 screws in the order shown below.

Step 10. If you have used a jig (yeah, right, as if!), now is the time to take it out.

Step 11. The user interface support frame is helped in place by four clips as
shown below.

45

Step 12. Use your plastic shim to release the clips at one side of the phone.

Step 13. Now, release the clips at the opposite side.

Step 14. With the clips released, you can now lift the guts of the phone out of
the chassis and back cover.

Step 15. To separate the user interface from the main board, use a plastic shim
as shown below.

46

Step 16. You can now lift the main circuit board away.

Step 17. Use a small flat bladed screwdriver to release the clips holding the
metal LCD frame.

Step 18. Release the top clip using your plastic shim.

Step 19. With the clips released, you can now remove the metal LCD shield.

47

Step 20. Now that the metal shield is out of the way, the LCD can be carefully
removed.

Step 21. Use your plastic shim to remove the grounding clip.

Step 22. Use a small flat bladed screwdriver to release the three clips holding
the shielding gasket.

Step 23. The ear piece is easily removed, but take note of the guiding pin when
you reassemble.

48

Step 24. Use your Torx driver to pull down the ear piece.

Step 25. The following three pictures show the camera removal procedure. If
you don't have the correct tools to do the job, dont attempt to do so.

Step 26. Use your plastic shim to lift up the aerial.

49

Step 27. The power button is easily lifted out from the chassis.

Step 28. As usual, the vibra motor is only held in place by a friction.

Step 29. Remove the infra red window taking note of the guiding pin for
reassembly.

Step 30. Use tweezers to lift out the main connector block.

50

Step 31. Push the microphone out with your Torx driver.

Step 32. To remove the locking lever, place it in the position shown, then apply
moderate force from the rear.

DESCRIPTION

DRAWING

This is a convenient tool to hold

small parts.

Multi tester can measure various

electric values such as the
measurement of the resistor
value, the measurement of the
voltage, the measurement of the
current, the confirmation of the
polarity of the light emitting
diode.
The electronic circuits which use
a transistor, IC and so on cannot
be directly worked by AC100 V.
Usually, those powers are from
several V to tens of V in the direct
current. Therefore the power
supply unit needs to confirm the
operation of the circuit that is
