MWRI-MED Pumping Stations Rehabilitation Program

New Construction of Edku pumping station

Vol. II Technical Specifications

Chap 2 Description of Works

In principle, coating or painting shall be performed after the hydrostatic test, if applicable,
and assembling of the equipment. Coating or painting on those parts to be submerged in the
shop tests shall be finished prior to the test.
Dirt or rust preventive primers shall be applied immediately after surface treatment for
those parts to be grit blasted prior to fabrication. No lead primers are allowed.
Internal surfaces in contact with oil or grease shall be painted, if necessary, with epoxy
paint or as per manufacturer's standards.
The coating or painting schedule described hereinafter shall not applied to machined,
stainless parts, ferrous surfaces, non ferrous metal parts and galvanized parts.
Temporary rust preventive coatings shall be applied for ferrous machined surfaces for
protection during shipping.
Ferrous surfaces to be embedded in concrete shall be painted with zinc-primer to prevent
corrosion. Transition zones (water/concrete or air/concrete) of ferrous surfaces to be
partially embedded in concrete are to receive special treatment for avoiding crevice
corrosion. Bidders have to submit corresponding technical proposals.
Painting materials for touch-up at site shall be supplied in appropriate amount with the
equipment.
2.15.2

Surface Preparation
Ferrous surface of the equipment shall be prepared prior to coating or painting according to
the applicable standards, in either of two methods of treatment:
a)

Sand blast cleaning S 2 or equivalent.

b) Power sander cleaning or equivalent.

2.15.3

Color
The Main Contractor shall submit the color schedule for the different equipment, which
supports safety of operation and understanding of processes in the pumping station for
approval by MED within 4 weeks after Entering into Force of the Contract.

2.15.4 Coating or Painting Schedules

The following are the proposed coating or paintings. Bidders shall quote according to the
schedules given hereinafter or higher quality.
