Content Standard

Learning Standard

1.1 By the end of 6-year primary schooling, pupils will


be able to pronounce words and speak confidently with
the correct stress, rhythm and intonation.

be able to listen and respond appropriately in formal

Behavioural objective:
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i.

listen and answer simple questions correctly regarding real-life


heroes while playing the Poison Box game.

ii.

discuss and list down the details of their planning for the
appreciation night in their respective groups.

Pupils have to plan and organise an appreciation night for their chosen real-life

Pupils answer simple questions (questions are based on real-life situation) in


game.

Pupils communicate to each other in planning and organising an appreciation


chosen real-life hero and to share their planning to their peers.

Language content:
Simple sentences

1. A teacher teaches pupils in the school.


2. A doctor treats sick people in the hospital.
3. A policeman catches bad people.
4. A firefighter puts out fire.
5. A traffic police helps people to clear the traffic jam on the road.

Instructional materials: Video (thank you song), pictures (people helping others), a bag (pictures
of school, police station, fire station, road, hospital), flash cards (teacher
policeman, fire-fighter, doctor), sentence strips, questions (refer to
appendix), poison box, music, teachers sample of appreciation nights
details, textbook (page 145).
Previous knowledge : Pupils are familiar with real-life heroes as they have learnt those
occupations before.
Anticipated problem : A number of pupils may not be able to follow the poison box game as
they are not familiar with the game.
Possible solution

: Teacher provides demonstration on how to play the game to the pupils.
