Management Information The syllabus for Management Information introduces a number of costing and variance concepts that might be unfamiliar to many candidates, along with an introduction to budgets, elementary working capital and pricing topics and decision making techniques. The assessment is not simply calculation based as discursive concepts are explored as well. As there are a significant number of calculation questions in the assessment you should practise using the ICAEW-authorised calculators, if possible, and also make yourself familiar with the discount tables that will be available. In the assessment you should expect a mix of questions. Some are more complex than other, more straightforward, questions Some will take longer than others Question order is randomised; do not be put off if a complex question is near the beginning of the assessment. Be careful not to put yourself under any undue time pressure in the assessment. If, after careful consideration, you are not sure of the correct answer, you should mark the question for review then move on to the next question and not get bogged down. At the end of the test, you can then go back and review any questions that you marked for review.

When you have finished the assessment, you should
stay in the assessment room and check your answers, especially the accuracy of calculations. Most students have chosen to sit this assessment last. Since September 2008 there have been around 3,000 tests. Results are good with 87% passing at the first attempt. It is worth pointing out that candidates ignore the discursive aspects of the syllabus at their peril.
