recognizedasthehighestdistinctionincomputer

TheawardisnamedafterAlanTuring,mathematician
andreaderinmathematicsattheUniversityof
Manchester,laterfellowattheUniversityof
Cambridge.Turingisoftencreditedforbeingthekey
founderoftheoreticalcomputerscienceandartificial
intelligence.[7]From2007to2013,theawardwas
accompaniedbyaprizeofUS$250,000,with
financialsupportprovidedbyIntelandGoogle.[2]
Since2014,theawardhasbeenaccompaniedbya
prizeofUS$1million,[1]withfinancialsupport
providedbyGoogle.[8]
Thefirstrecipient,in1966,wasAlanPerlis,of
CarnegieMellonUniversity.Thefirstfemalerecipient
wasFrancesE.AllenofIBMin2006.[9]
