2.2 Literature Review

Keyword search on E-Commerce adoption in India e-business in India
E-Commerce and India and e-business and India in various databases like EBSCO,
ProQuest, and Emerald Management Xtra found the following
E-Commerce/e-business research articles done in Indian context.
Raven et al. compared India and Chinas approaches in adoption of e-business.
Based on the literature survey and secondary data, the study analysed various
factors influencing the growth of e-businesses in the two countries. The factors
examined include government policy and focus, existing technology infrastructure
regulatory environment, experience and understanding of business operations, and
culture, among others. The study concludes that China appears to be ahead of India
in the infrastructure, but India is ahead in e-readiness. Further, it states that both
countries are poised for rapidly increasing e-business, however, problems of poverty
11

and inequality between urban and rural connectivity must be resolved to really take
advantage of e-business in both the countries.
Malhotra and Singh studied the determinants of Internet banking adoption by banks
in India. Panel data of 88 banks in India covering the financial years 19971998 to
20042005 was collected through CMIE (Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy)
database. Logistic regression analysis was used, the dependent variable is categorical
with a value of 1 if a bank adopted Internet banking during the study period and 0
otherwise. Independent variables included in the study are firm size, firm age, bank
deposits ratio, average wages, expenses (fixed assets & premises), ROA (ratio of
average net profits to average assets), market share, average number of branches,
percentage of banks adopted Internet banking. The results of the study prove that
Bank type (Private), firm size, bank deposits ratio, firm age, market share, average
number of branches, percentage of banks adopted Internet banking and expenses,
are found to be significant in adoption decision. Wage and ROA are found to be
insignificant. This study contributes to the empirical literature on diffusion of
financial innovations, particularly Internet banking in Indian context. Most of the
study on adoption of technology was related to developed markets like US and
Europe, this study is an important contribution to evolving literature as it dealt the
problem of technology adoption in developing country context.
Vishwasrao and Bosshardt used a theoretical framework developed by Katz
and Shapiro (1987) to examine the ongoing technology adoption behavior of
foreignowned and domestic firms. Firm level data on 1400 medium to large Indian
firms from 1989 to 1993 was used to test the model. Probit and Poisson estimation
was used to analyze the data and model. Variables included in the study are no. of
collaboration, nature of collaborationforeign or otherwise, firm age, total assets,
total sales, net profit, herfindhal index, R&D expenditures by industry as percentage
of sales. Results of the study throw some interesting light on technology adoption
behavior of foreign firms. In general, it shows that liberalization happened in India
after 1991 has positive impact on technology adoption, but it is found that foreign
firms are quick to take advantage than domestic firms. R&D expenditure is found to
be not significant for technology adoption, firm size (large firms are more likely to
adopt) and age of firm are found to be significant. Also it is found that foreign firms
adopt new technology when profits are down, and doesnt adopt technology in
competitive markets.

2.3 Evolution of E-Commerce:

Business is on the planet from numerous hundreds of years. Today the sort of
trade we are searching for has come up after advancement .business and
much different business methodology had as of now worked and inhabited to
get by all through such a variety of years. Prior individuals use to trade their
items from each other and satisfy their requirements by that procedure for
instance people groups use to give materials keeping in mind the end goal to
purchase utensils or trade fabrics rather than grains, this procedure was
12

called BARTER PROCESS. After that cash appeared and individuals used to
purchase products from cash. After some time road sellers and the shops
appeared and individuals began purchasing items as opposed to trading it
with other thing and as the time passed immense shops, bazaar, shopping
centres and so forth were produced. Presently a days the most recent idea of
business is the E-trade, which is period of globalization, it rose to be a
limitless exchanging framework. The condition in E-business is assuming a
vital part in expanding the economy of any nation.
2.4 Advantages of E-Commerce:
There are numerous points of interest of E-business, that is the reason it is
developing in an extremely quick rate
1. The principal favourable position of E-business is that it has an assortment
of alternatives of the same items on numerous sites.
2. E-business is the greatest shopping entrance having each conceivable item
which gives clients to get what they need while sitting in their own particular
spot ,it has diminished the transportation costs and additionally spared time
as well.
3. This business sector is open and accessible to everybody for 24 hours.
Administration is been given 24*7.
2.4 Disadvantages of E-Commerce:
A portion of the primary impediments of the E-business are:
Through internet purchasing and offering client don't have any immediate
cooperation with the merchant.
You can just check or test the item subsequent to purchasing it. For example
they can't see specifically, they can't touch, they can't attempt and so forth.
There are a wide range of sort of issues, for example, protection issue,
security issue, approval issues being the real worry of E-trade.
So these are some fundamental points of interest and disservices of E-business,
other than this E-trade have been viable in focusing on their clients.
2.5 Key Players of E-Commerce(AMAZON, FLIPKART, SNAPDEAL ,EBAY):
The quantity of players are expanding step by step in the round of E-trade
however the most essential key player who has ascended the E-business
stage to an awesome tallness is AMAZON and has given administrations to
shop from anyplace over the globe. In our nation the three most driving
players who expanded the quantity of E-business clients are FLIPKART,
13

SNAPDEAL and EBAY. Despite the fact that all the four have the same
thoughts of offering items online through various instalment techniques
every one of them have the distinctive structure to work. Prior AMAZON and
FLIPKART both began with the same beginning thought of offering books
online or we can say they both are the online book shop however as they
kicked financing they off to offer items like materials, gadgets and so forth
and now they are in the business sector with all items. Then again SNAPDEAL
has begun with an aggregate diverse idea as contrast with these two. Despite
the fact that future they likewise gets the same way. At first SNAPDEAL use to
give a day by day arrangement to their clients on a sensible cost. They
consolidate few of the items make it a combo and keep a x cost of every one
of those item and fiery debris it on their site saying it bargain. Despite the
fact that AMAZON began in the year 1994 and coming out on top the whole
way across the globe where FLIP-KART, SNAPDEAL and EBAY began in the
year 2007, 2010 and 2005 separately.
2.6 Future Scope of E-Commerce in India:
As we probably are aware India is one of the quickest developing economy of
the world and in the improvement of any nation we can't overlook the trade
and these days we can't disregard the association of E-business in the
developing economy of any nation. The quantity of web client as contrast
with whatever other created nation is less yet as the rate of augmentation of
web client in our nation it will cross the created nation inside couple of years.
Rather than being a creating nation India is the third biggest number of web
client. Our nation is behind just two created nations in this with 151 million
of web client however china and United States of America is driving with 568
million and 254 million separately as up-to the year 2013. With the yearly
development rate of 40 to 43% our nation is good to go to cross the
characteristic of 375 million web client up-to 2015. As we are seeing from
here the rate of expansion in the web client is becoming quickly undoubtedly
the quantity of E-business client will increment at the same rate. As we
realize that the web is the most essential element of the development of
E-trade so if the quantity of web client expand the quantity of the E-business
clients will increment with practically the same rate.

Table 1: Yearly sales by E-commerce websites in India (in Billion US $)

14

India has demonstrated a quick development in the rate of E-trade of retail deals
over the aggregate retail deals from the year 2012 and anticipated that would
develop at the same rate.
As appeared above in the year 2012 aggregate deals from E-trade is 2.31 billion US $
which increment to 3.59 billion US$ in the following year and in the year 2015 it is
relied upon to have an aggregate offers of 7.69 billion US$ and at the rate of
development appeared over the aggregate offers of E-business in India will be 10.68,
14.18, 17.52 in the year 2016, 2017, 2018 separately.
So as indicated by the above information we can say that how the E-trade is
influencing the deals and disconnected from the net business sector in our nation.
What's more, the most critical component for this fast development is the web the
same number of people groups join the web the ascent in the E-trade environment
will be proceeding.
2.7 Conclusion:
This segment tells about the E-business its advancement, its leverage and
weakness, future and present of the E-trade in India. From the above study
one thing is clear that the development of the E-trade is developing at an
exceptionally expedient rate. In future as the quantity of web clients build
the development in the E-business will increment at the same rate. Number
of E-trade players is additionally expanding at the high rate and because of
this the opposition ahead in this environment will be high. With various
difficulties the E-trade in our nation is additionally expanding at a high rate
and this rate will likewise increment with the time.

3.1.4 Challenges of e-commerce :

The E-trade is developing at an extremely fast speed and many E-business sites are
getting presented every day on this stage with a survival rate of just about 10%
following one year however this stage is additionally not challenge free, there are
various test confronted by both by the proprietor of the E-trade site and the
customer. Because of these difficulties and the developing rivalries getting its
troublesome for E business sector to develop in our nation. Lacking of client
verification, item return and discount request by the clients, trust of the clients on
the E-business sites, the unnoticed issues of the clients, these are few noteworthy
difficulties which E-trade site is confronting on this stage. Here we will check these
real issues to sum things up and attempt to locate some conceivable answer for it.
1.Lacking Customers Verification
An E-trade sites knows just about their clients by the data they take by the people at
the season of sign up. This data is insufficient for any E-trade site to know their
clients totally. They dont even beyond any doubt about the accuracy of their client
data or is the record made on their sites are a genuine one or are they fake and
made only for entertainment only. These things make an immense issue when the
client requested a fake order on cod (cash on delivery) and because of the absence
of data E-trade sites don't have a clue about that whether the request is real or not
and they dispatch them. The result is huge revenue loses.

2.Return of Products and Refund

The arrival of item and requesting their discounts is additionally a noteworthy test to
this E-trade stage. A client who is unsatisfied with the conveyed item which he
requested then as per the organization approaches they give back that thing and ask
the discount and they got it inside few days however in the entire expert cess
organization have a substantial loss of shipment charges, the pressing charges, the
work charges and so forth and more than that the primary misfortune for them is
the absence of trust of their clients.

3.Lack of Customers loyalty

As we see that the opposition in the E-trade is expanding step by step the absence of
clients unwaveringness is self-evident. Each individual need that they get a pleasant
arrangement on the least expensive cost and so as to get these they look at the
same item on various E-trade sites and the spot where they locate the least
19

expensive value they arrange from that. What's more, in light of this reason
numerous players lost their clients on the grounds that their opponents are putting
forth a decent arrangement or giving a superior rebate to them. . As an answer of
the aforementioned issues these players must make a specific manage and tail them
entirely for case subsequent to taking request from any client one must confirm and
accept the requests by various method for correspondence like email, telephone,
messages and so on first affirm the request from their client and after that exclusive
dispatch them. Making an arrival administration approaches and minimize the
expense of conveyance and pressing and so forth. Make your requests remembering
about each every class of individuals with the goal that they adhere to your site and
don't trouble what others are requesting them. These are the conceivable
arrangements in regards to the above difficulties of the E-trade environment.

3.1.5 Conclusion
This contextual analysis manages the many things in E-business, for example, history
and starting point of E-trade, challenges in E-trade, origin and development of Ebusiness etc. We have perceived how amazon that how AMAZON made a turning
point in the field of E-trade in the most recent couple of decades. Be that as it may,
other than AMAZAON couple of players, for example, FLIPKART , SNAPDEAL and
ebay achieved a same level inside few a year in our nation and turned into the
greatest opponent for this greatest E-business gaint. This demonstrates how the
method for business is changing year by year and how in future E-trade is going to
influence the method for shopping from road, huge bazaars shops to PC, portable
PC, tablets etc. In the coming future E-business is even going to play assume a vital
part in the economy of the entire world including our nation.

3.2 Payment Methods:

There are different methods for making payment through electronic modes, for
example, electronic wallets, keen cards, programming wallets, charge cards, check
cards, net-banking and the sky is the limit from there. Online stores that gather cash
from customers in some other route than Cash need to depend on an administration
supplier normally known as a Payment Gateway provider. A payment entryway is an
e-trade application administration supplier that processes Visa payments for eorganizations and online retailers. It goes about as the go between the purchaser
who is making buys and the bank that is approving the bank issued payment
instrument, for example, a Master-card to be utilized for the payment. It is what
might as well be called making a payment over the counter when one is physically
obtaining something. These payment portals resemble the brokers between the
20

buyer and the organization giving the item. Payment doors get their incomes from
the traders to whom they give these administrations. Thus the Payment Gateway
needs to impart some of its shipper expense to the banks and payment frameworks
organizations
Some time , for example, in Cash on Delivery exchanges, the payment are made
specifically from the consumer(Buyer) to the Merchant (Seller) that an item or
administration is being given. Direct exchanges between the purchaser and
merchant don't include the payment portal and all things considered the payment
entryway is not a gathering to the exchange nor does it get incomes from such
transactions. Amongst the few payment doors in India, some surely understood
payment passages that are generally utilized incorporate CC Avenue and Tech
Process. Pay by Amazon has additionally as of late propelled its administration.
payment Gateways that demonstration between the bank and the vendor can give
proficient administrations and to that reason the exchange expense is stacked with
the extra expenses of the Payment Gateway. Payment doors, be that as it may, give
a more secure stage to the cash trade to occur as there are lesser odds of being hurt
by fraudsters as the Payment Gateway would more often than not have its own
extortion assurance framework that shields vendors from such obligation.
