Q of mass 2 kg moving with velocity ms-1. P is brought to rest by the
4
collision. Find the velocity of Q after the collision.
4. Two particles of masses 5 kg and 3 kg are moving with velocities of -2i 5j ms-1
and 3i j ms-1 respectively when they collide and coalesce. Find the velocity of
the combined particle.
5. A and B are two balls of identical size and masses of 3 kg and 2 kg respectively.
They are travelling directly towards each other in the same straight line when they
collide. Just before impact A is travelling at 8 ms-1 and B at 5 ms-1. Immediately
after the impact A travels at 2 ms-1 and B at v ms-1. Find v if A
(i) continues to travel in the same direction after the impact,
(ii) travels in the opposite direction after the impact.
6. A particle P of mass 5 kg slides down a smooth plane inclined at an angle to the
horizontal, where sin 16 . After 3 seconds it collides with particle Q of mass
1 kg which is sliding down the plane at 2.5 ms-1. If the particles coalesce find
their common speed after impact.

8. Three trucks each of mass 2 tonnes are moving on a straight horizontal track in
the same direction with speeds of 10 ms-1, 5 ms-1 and 3 ms-1 respectively. When
any two trucks collide they couple together i.e. they move as one. After 2
collisions the three trucks are moving with a common speed. Find this speed.
