The company undertakes regional level R&Ds for greater productivity and result
oriented practices. This has greatly helped in understanding local parameters that
need to be addressed. Effective redressal of issues thus identified has been greatly
beneficial for all stakeholders. The instance of paddy straw recycling is relevant
here. Paddy straw in Punjab is burnt, as it is very difficult to cut it. The burning of
thousands of acres of straw causes widespread pollution and wide range of
environmental and health problems. The straw is collected by SAEL and used in our
boilers to produce electricity instead of harming the environment and causing
health issues like respiratory problems in children and adults. Furthermore, regional
level R&D has helped us identify 24 such types of fuel that can be used to produce
electricity.
SAEL plans to establish a Centre of Excellence where cutting edge R & D will be
carried out for other grains besides rice, namely Wheat, Corn and Maize and Oil
seeds such as Mustard etc so that farmers have better yields. The centre of
excellence shall have as its core theme establishment of an institution which shall
do pioneering research in the field of agro technology. This Innovative Center shall
concentrate on Rice and Wheat production as far as enhancing the quality of grain
for increasing yield; enhance its bug repelling properties and make it more suitable
for planting.
The R and D Center shall extend its field of operation to the farmer on the ground so
that the advantages of soil examination and analysis are made accessible to them.
For this reason, steady cooperation between the agriculturist and R& D Center shall
be made through classroom interactions and AV presentations. There will be a Lab
for Seed advancement, preparing and evaluating for yield change and capabilities
to grow more assortments of seeds. Special research labs for enhancing strategies
for pre-planting processes. A preparation plant with huskers, polishers, graders and
so forth to do test handling and to accomplish upgrades all the while will also be
available. SAEL considers these programs as the beginning of a long journey of
association, engagement, empowerment and mutual benefit with the farmers and
aims to perpetuate and expand the scope of this exercise every year.

Total farmer
engagement - Crop
Clinic
CROP CLINIC aims to strike a balance between the
cultivators demand for higher yield in crop production
& the consumers preference for superior quality
produce in various crops. Hence, CROP CLINIC
believes in holistic approach, instant aid, pro-active
intervention and guidance and responsible
safeguarding of farmer's interests in all areas of crop
production. Some of the ways in which CROP CLINIC
Hoardings / Posters /
Pamphlets & Banners
Communication with the masses has to be done efficiently &
effectively. CROP CLINIC has prepared informative,
interesting and attractive literature and visual communication
tools for the same. Colourful and impactful hoardings, posters,
pamphlets & banners carrying specific messages regarding
modern way of crop production are an important means of
guidance and also motivation for the farmers to adopt new
techniques of production. This effort has made SAEL's task of
Soil Testing
Crop Clinic collects soil samples from fields and gets these
tested in highly sophisticated soil testing laboratories of
Government of Punjab. After the results of the testing emerge,
Crop Clinic issues Crop Advisory to farmers' that provides
pertinent information on each aspect of the crop cycle. The
Crop Clinic official personally hands over the crop advisory to
the farmers at their door steps and this document has
precious information pertaining to the most suitable and high
yielding crops to be grown in the soil type, watering
schedules, the nutrient management etc. The 'green' aspect is
kept at the forefront as these efforts save the farmers money
by reducing the chances of indiscriminate use of fertilizers
and helps immensely in maintaining soil structure.
Radio Programme
Crop Clinic in collaboration with All INDIA RADIO is planning
to prepare, record & broadcast following programs for the
farmers.
Radio Spots
They are nothing but the commercial advertisements of 30
seconds duration. In every Radio Spot CROP CLINIC will
deliver specific message regarding crop production in a
lucrative manner.
Sponsorship
CROP CLINIC will sponsor various agricultural
programs. It will disseminate the TOLL FREE number &
Kisan Mela date amongst the farmers.
Voice SMS
One of the most effective ways to disseminate the
technical know-how of crop production amongst the
farmers is to pass on the message in an easily
understandable and friendly manner. CROP CLINIC has
Crop Calender
A monthly update on technical know-how of crop
production in a calendar form has been designed. It
has been developed in 2 forms. One for Eastern U.P
and another for Western U.P. Various crop rotations
along with their agronomic practices have been
depicted in the crop calendar. Besides, the month,
dates & days are given in detail in the said calendar.
Radio Talk
It is half an hour question answer session on a specific
topic covering the technical know-how of crop
production. It imparts knowledge to the farmers about
latest development in the field of agriculture. Various
issues such as identification & cure of insects,
diseases, deficiency symptoms & toxicity of chemicals
are addressed in this program.
