Canticle of Zechariah

Luke 1:68-79

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty savior,
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old
that he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the
Most High;
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the
shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the
Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for
ever. Amen.

Canticle of Mary

Luke 1:46-55

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:

the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.

Gospel Canticle

Luke 2: 29-32

Ant. Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake;

watch over us as we sleep, that awake,
we may keep watch with Christ,
and asleep, rest in his peace.
Lord, now you let your servant go in peace;
your word has been fulfilled:
my own eyes have seen the salvation
which you have prepared in the sight of every
people:
a light to reveal you to the nations
and the glory of your people Israel.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and will be for ever. Amen.

Which inspire your heav'nly song?

Come adore on bended knee
Christ, the Lord, the newborn King!

FIRST NOEL
1. The first Noel the angel did say,
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay;
In fields were they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winters night that was so deep.
2. They looked up and saw a star
Shinning in the East beyond them far,
And to the earth it gave great light,
And so it continued both day and night.

11

Chorus:
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.
3. This star drew nigh to the North West,
O'er Bethlehem it took its rest;
And there it did both stop and stay
Right over the place where Jesus lay.

Full rev'rently on bended knee;
And offer'd there in His presence,
Their gold and myrrh and frankincense.

GIVE LOVE ON CHRISTMASDAY

1. People making lists, buying special gifts,
taking time to be kind to one and all.
Its the time of year, when good friends are dear,
and you wish you could give more,
than just presents from a store.
Chorus:
Why don't you
give love on Christmas Day?
(on Christmas day)
Oh, even the man who has everything,
Would be so happy if you will bring
Him love on Christmas Day;
No greater gift is there than love.
2. People you don't know smile and nod hello,
ev'rywhere there's an air of Christmas joy.

Chorus:
Why don't you
give love on Christmas Day?
(on Christmas day)
Oh, the man in the street

All need to know

HARK! THE HERALD ANGELS SING

1. Hark! the herald angels sing,
Glory to the new born King;
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!
Joyful all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th'angelic host proclaim,
Christ is born in Bethlehem.
Hark the herald angels sing,
Glory to the new born King.
2. Christ by highest heav'n adored;
Christ the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold Him come,
Offspring of the Virgin's womb.
Veil'd in flesh the Godhead see;
Hail th' Incarnate Deity,
Pleased as man with us to dwell,
Jesus our Emmanuel!
3. Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that we no more may die,
Born to raise the fate of earth,
Born to give us second birth.
Ris'n with healing in His wings,
Light and life to all He brings,
Hail the Sun of Righteousness!
Hail, the heav'n born Prince of Peace!
7

IT CAME UPON A MIDNIGHT CLEAR

1. It came upon the midnight clear,
That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth
To touch their harps of gold:
Peace on the earth, good will to men/all
From heav'n's all gracious King.
The world in solemn stillness lay
To hear the angels sing.
2. Still through the cloven skies they come,
With peaceful wings unfurl'd;
And still their heav'nly music floats

13

O'er all the weary world:

Above its sad and lowly plains
They bend on hov'ring wing,
And ever o'er its Babel sounds
The blessed angels sing.
3. O ye, beneath life's crushing load,
Whose forms are bending low,
Who toil along the climbing way
With painful steps and slow!
Look now for glad and golden hours
Come swiftly on the wing;
O rest beside the weary road
And hear the angels sing.
8

JINGLE BELLS
1. Dashing thro' the snow
In a one horse open sleigh,
O'er the fields we go,
Laughing all the way;
Bells on bobtail ring,
Making spirits bright;
What fun it is to ride and sing
a sleighing song tonight!(Hey!)
Refrain:

Jingle bells! jingle bells!

Jingle all the way!

Oh, what fun it is to ride
in a one horse open sleigh! (2x)
2. A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride,
And soon Miss Fannie Bright
Was seated by my side;
The horse was lean and lank,
Misfortune seem'd his lot,
he got into a drifted bank,
And we, we got upsot.(Hey!)
3. Now the ground is white,
Go it while you're young,
Take the girls tonight,
And sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bob tailed nag,
Two forty for his speed,
Then hitch him to an open sleigh,
And crack! you'll take the lead.(Hey!)

14

JOY TO THE WORLD

1. Joy to the world! the Lord is come;
Let earth receive her King;
Let ev'ry heart prepare Him room,
And heav'n and nature sing,
And heav'n and nature sing,
And heav'n, and heav'n and nature sing.
2. Joy to the world! the Saviour reigns;
Let men their song employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.
3. He rules the world with truth and grace
And make the nations prove
The glories of his righteousness,
And wonders of his love,
And wonders of his love,
And wonders, and wonders of his love.

Rum pum pum pum rum pum pum pum,
Shall I pray for you? parum pum pum pum,

2. O come, thou wisdom, from on high,

16

And orders all things far and nigh

To us the path of knowledge show,
And teach us in her ways to go.

Who to thy tribes on Sinai's height
In ancient times did give the law,
In clouds, and majesty, and awe.
14

O HOLY NIGHT
1. O Holy night! The stars are brightly shining;
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices;
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Refrain:
Fall on your knees!
Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night, divine,
O night, when Christ was born.
O night divine!
O night, O night, divine!
15

O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM

1. O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and
dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by;
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The ever lasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight.
2. For Christ is born of Mary,
And gather'd all above,
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wond'ring love.
O morning stars, together
Proclaim the holy birth!
And praises sing to God the King,
And peace to all on earth!
3.How silently, how silently
The wondrous gift is giv'n;
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His heav'n.
No ear may hear His coming,
But in this world of sin;

17

Where meek souls will receive Him still,

The dear Christ enters in.
16

RUDOLF, THE RED-NOSED REINDEER

WE THREE KINGS
18

1. We three kings of Orient are;

Bearing gifts we traverse afar,
Field and fountain, moor and mountain,
Following yonder star.
Refrain:
Ooh...
Star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to Thy perfect light.
2. Born a King on Bethlehem's plain,
Gold I bring, to crown Him again,
King forever, ceasing never,
Over us all to reign.
3. Frankincense to offer have I,
Incense owns a Deity nigh,
Pray'r and praising, all are raising,
Worship Him, God most high.
4. Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume,
Breathes a life of gathering gloom,
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,
Sealed in the stone-cold tomb.
5. Glorious now behold Him arise,
King and God and Sacrifice,
Alleluia, Alleluia,
Earth to heaven replies.
19

WHAT CHILD IS THIS

1. What child is this, who laid to rest,
On Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King:
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
2. Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christian, fear: for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading.
Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,
The Cross be borne, for me for you:
Hail, hail the Word made flesh
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

19

3. So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh,

Come peasant, king, to own Him,
The King of kings, salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone him.
Raise, raise the song on high
The Virgin sings her lullaby:
Joy, joy, for Christ is born
Babe the Son of Mary.

the gifts not fully dreamt.
Give our stumblings direction,
give our visions wider view,
An offering if ashes an offering to You.
3. Then rise again from ashes,
let healing come to pain,
Though spring has turned to winter,
and sunshine turns to rain.
The rain will use for growing,
and create the world anew from
An offering of ashes an offering to You.

And did the victry win,

O CROSS OF CHRIST
1. O Cross of Christ , immortal tree
On which our Savior died,
The world is sheltered by your arms
That bore the crucified.
2. From bitter death and barren wood
The tree of life is made;

22

Its branches bear unfailing fruit

And leaves that never fade.
3. O faithful Cross, you stand unmoved
While ages run their course;
Foundation of the universe,
Creation's binding force.
4. Give glory to the risen Christ
And to his Cross give praise,
The sign of God's unfathomed love,
The hope of all our days.
27

O SACRED HEAD SURROUNDED

1. O Sacred head surrounded
by crown of piercing thorn!
O bleeding head, so wounded,
reviled and put to scorn.
Our sins have marred the glory
of Thy most holy Face.
Yet angel hosts adore Thee,
and tremble as they gaze.
2. The Lord of every nations
was hung upon a tree;
His death was our salvation,
our sins, His agony.
O Jesus, by Thy Passion,
Thy life in us increase;
Thy death for us did fashion
our pardon and our peace.

GREATEST LOVE OF ALL

I believe the children are our future;
Teach them well and let them lead the way.
Show them all the beauty they possess inside.
Give them the sense of pride,
to make it easier;

66

Let the children's laughter

remind us how we used to be.
Everybody's searching for a hero;
People need someone to look up to.
I never found anyone who fulfilled my needs.
A lonely place to be,
and so I learned to depend on me.
Refrain: I decided long ago
never to walk in anyone's shadow.
If I fail if I succeed
at least I lived as I believed.
No matter what they take from me,
they can't take away my dignity.
Because of greatest love of all
is happening to me.
I found the greatest love of all inside of me.
The greatest love of all is easy to achieve.
Learning to love yourself
it is the greatest love of all.
(Repeat Ist stanza)
Coda: And if by chance that special place
that you've been dreaming of
leads you to a lonely place,
find your strength in love.

LIFT UP YOUR HANDS

1. Life is not at all that bad my friend,
If you believe in yourself
If you believe there's someone
Who walks through life with you,
You'll never be alone
Just learn to reach out and open your heart.
Lift up your hands to God,
and He'll show you the way.
Refrain: And He said:
"Cast your burdens upon me
those who are heavily laden.
Come to me all of you who are tired
of carrying heavy load.
For the yoke I will give you is easy
and my burden is light.
Come to me and I will give you rest."
When you feel the world is tumbling down on you,
And you have no one that you can hold on to.
Just face the rising sun
And you'll see hope and there's no need to run.
Lift up your hands to God
and He'll make you feel all right.

Did live and love alone.
3. You were not born, there was no source
From which your Being flowed;
There is no end which you can reach,
For you are simply God.
4. How wonderful creation is,
The work which you did bless;
What then must you be like, dear God,
Eternal loveliness!

Before your throne we lie,
Have mercy now and evermore,
Most holy Trinity.

All that eye has yet perceived!
Holiest hearts for ages pleading,
Never that full joy conceived.
God has promised, Christ prepares it,
There on high our welcome waits;
Every humble spirit shares it,
Christ has passed the eternal gates.
3. Life eternal! heaven rejoices :
Jesus who lives who once was dead;
Join, O man, the deathless voices ;

112

Child of God lift up thy head!

Patriarchs from distant ages,
Saints all longing for their heaven,
Prophets , psalmists, seers, and sages,
All await the glory given
4. Life eternal! O what wonders
Crowd on faith; what joy unknown,
When, amidst earth's closing thunders,
Saints shall stand before the throne!
O to enter that bright portal,
See that glowing firmament,
Know, with thee, O God immortal,
"Jesus Christ whom thou has sent!"
