Types of narrative writing
General Guidelines
Topic Sentence
In narrative writing, for every paragraph there is a topic sentence. This topic sentence
contains the main idea of the paragraph.
This main idea can be developed with statements, explanations and examples.
The topic sentence is usually at the beginning or at the end of the paragraph.
Sometimes it is in the middle of the paragraph.
The Plot
When writing the plot, include the following :
Where the story took place (e.g. school, jungle, swimming pool)
When the story took place (e.g. last week, in 1999, when I was young)
The people who were involved.
The problems / conflicts in the story (e.g. an incident, carelessness of the character
etc.)
How the problems / conflicts were resolved
