Chapter 2
1. Describe the ecological context that a child experiences and that affects his or her

development

according to Brofenbrenner. Brofenbreener believed that there were 4 levels or aspects that influence
childrens development the first being the microsystem, this system involves any relationship like
immediate family and caregivers at school and daycare. In the aspect how a child reacts to or treats those
in their microsystem will have an affect on how they treat the child in return. So it is best to be as loving
and nurturing as possible to get this back in return. Then there is the mesosystem in which the parts of
the childs microsystem works together to benefit the child. If the child guardians work together in a
positive way then the childs overall growth will be good, but if the guardians disagree or have conflict
over the childs well-being then it may negatively alter the childs development. The exosystem includes
the outside people and places that may be in the childs life and the influence they may have, like
neighbors or extended family. For example, if a parent has a disagreement with a neighbor then it may
negatively affect the childs relationship with the neighbors child or the child may ill towards the
neighbor. Lastly, there is the macrosystem this is the largest and most removed set of people but they
still have a big influence on the child. This consists of the government, economy, or culture values.
Depending on what the child encounters these may have positive and negative effects on a child as well.

2. What is generally involved in implementing a program? In implementing a program everyone has to be

involved in the decision making process. There should be many programs and curriculum to choose
from before an informed decision is made to make sure it is developmentally appropriate. There should
be adequate staff training as well as ongoing training.

Chapter 3
1. Identify the agency that oversees child care licensure in the state of Mississippi and report important
provisions such as adult-child ratio and group size. The Mississippi State Department of Health oversees
these things.
