REASON
To cure a NAV system malfunction
which
causes
the display
to flash
when the associated
DME
on the KNS 81 and the NAV to be inoperative
(KN 63, KDM 706 or KTU 709) loses
power for any reason.
The cause
for this
malfunction
is that
the NAV receiver
interface
circuit
is
susceptible
to moderate
impedance
"sneak
paths"
that
exist
in the
DME and DME indicator
equipment.
When the KNS 81 is in a VOR mode and DME power is lost
for any
the KNS 81 display
may begin
to flash
and the NAV operation
reason,
By reapplying
power to the DME, if
may become inoperative.

operation

The malfunction
will
not be noticed
in VOR PAR or RNV mode since
loss
of DME power will
cause the DME to break lock-on
and the KNS 81
