Form a group or pair (3 or 2 people). Remember: 3 people is A LOT BETTER than 2.

1) chose an IHL violation from:

2) Make a short written summary of the conflict's history and present situation. You can start from the wikipedia page
about your conflict (in the second column of "List of ongoing conflicts" you'll find the link), but you can use news articles
too. This is the 1st part of your case study.

3) Describe the IHL violation. This is the 2nd part of your case study.

5) Report about reactions to the IHL violantion by the UN and quote if there are any International Civil Society iCS reports
or other advocacy actions. This is the 4th part of your case study.

6) Summarize and add you personal comments about critical points (issues, difficulties) inthe implementation of IHL. This is
the 5th and final part of your case study.

IHL case study contents.

Written report:

4) Report reactions to the IHL violantion by the UN and InternationalCivil Society iCS reports or other advocacy actions.
5) Your comments about critical points (issues and difficulties) in the implemntation of IHL.
Oral presentation. (suggestions)
1) What is the violation of IHL you are speaking about.
a) your case
b) the general rules that have been breached
2) Brief description of the conflict.
3) Reactions by the UN and iCS.
4) Your comments.
Remember: you have only 15 to 20 minutes. Therefore focus on the most relevant information and your comments.
Congratulations! Your case study is completed. Please don't write more than 2-3 pages and focus on the oral (spoken)
presentation (15-20 minutes). The presentation should NOT be a translation of your written text. Just briefly introduce
what you have learnt through (by doing) your case study.
