office.NepalandIndiarelationshavealwaysbeenveryimportantsinceNepalisoneofourmostimportant
neighbours.

ThisisindeedaveryimportantvisitbecausethereisachangeinthegovernmentandIndiahadverydifficult
timeduringthetermofpreviousPrimeMinisterK.P.Oliwhentherewereblockadesandallegations.
Weseefrombothsidesthereisconsciousanddeepdesiretoovercomeallthedifficultiesofthepastand
moveaheadinthespiritofastandingstateofmutualaccommodationandwiththerealisationthatboth
countriesneedeachother.
WearecloseneighboursconnectedwithgeographywhileHimalayaactslikeabarrierbetweenChinaand
Nepal.Theintensityofrelationshipbetweenboththecountriesislikeanyothertwocountries.Wehavean
openborder,freemovementofpeople,andGorkharegimentsofIndianArmy..
IndiaNepalRelationship
BothcountrieshavetoworktogethertoseewhatIndianeeds,Indiassecurityinterests,Nepalseconomic
developmentandprosperityandworkoutwhatweneedfromeachother.
IndiaNepalrelationsarepartofSouthAsianfamilyandchinaisnotapartofit.Bothcountriesshouldwork
togethertobuildthebrandofSouthAsia.
Therecanbeproblemsbetweentheneighboursasithappenseverywhere,buthowwesolvetheproblemis
whatisrequired.
ThecauseofconcernintherecenttimesistheConstitutionofNepal.ThenewConstitutionwascriticised
bytheMadhesiMorchaledbyleadersfromtheplainsofNepalwholedthemovementforblockadeof
economicsupplylinesontheNepalIndiaborder.Therewerehugelossoflifeandproperty.

NowthereseemstobeabroadconsensusbyallpoliticalpartiesinNepal.Weneedaconsensuswhichis
inclusive,accommodatingtheaspirationsofallsectionsofitsdiversesocietyandthisisaprogressivestep
happeninginNepal.
FromIndiassideanyinternalproblemparticularlyintheTerairegionspillsovertoIndia.SoIndiahastobe
veryconcernedaboutsecurity,lawandorderandstabilityaspectofhappeningsinTeraianditsimplications
onIndia.
Thedevastatingearthquakein2015hadaffectedmillionsofpeopleandthe$1billionassistancepromisedby
Indiawillbedistributednow.
Agreementonwaterresources,MahakaliPancheshwarproject,NepalPrimeMinisterPushpaKamalDahal
PrachandavisittoNathpaJhakriHydroelectricProjectaconcretegravitydamontheSutlejRiverin
HimachalPradesh.Theprimarypurposeofthedamishydroelectricpowerproductionanditsupplies1,500
megawattsofpowerandisverysignificantasWaterresourcedevelopmentisveryimportantforNepal.
PrimeMinisterPrachandaismakingtherightgestureinhissecondtermasPrimeMinisterwithsincerityand
determinationtohavegoodrelationshipwithIndia.
