Cashless Payments - Pros & Cons
Technology has changed the face of Indian banking industry through computation. It is becoming
increasingly imperative for banks to assess and ascertain the benefits of technology implementation. The
fruits of technology implementation will certainly taste a lot sweeter when the returns can be measured
in absolute terms, but we have to look at the other side as well so that this technology revolution will not
eat millions of job. Reflecting on the significance of the transition taking place, the distinguished Nobel
laureate economist Wasilly Leontief warned that with the introduction of increasingly sophisticated
computers, "The role of humans as the most important factor of production is bound to diminish in the
same way that the role of horses in agricultural production was first diminished and then eliminated by
the introduction of tractors."

Every cashless payment facility lets us to manage our finances in the comfort of our home or our office as
per our convenience. It is a Self-Service Channel, which is available 24 hours a day and 365 days a year in
an absolutely simple, friendly but secured environment. In cashless payment, a mere touch of a button or
click of a mouse makes us accessible to a host of any money transaction services.
The Cashless Web App is designed for PCs, Tablets and Smart phones, it allows users online access to their
accounts. Even CCEA approves measures to promote payments through cards and other electronic means
to check tax evasion and transition towards a cashless economy.
Pros.:
Cashless Payment eliminates cash handling costs so no need for cash floats and no cash
means all the headaches and worries about handling it are gone.
As it is fully secured to the highest standards, meaning customers can have complete peace
of mind when using it through App.
This system also saves precious time so no cash balancing required.
The average life span of a paper note is near about five years so going through electronic
procedure reduces the cost of producing physical currency.
Studies show that sales increase when consumers can pay with a stored-value card, this is
because people often forego small purchases when they do not have cash on them.
It drives the development and modernization of the payment system, promotes transparency
and accountability and reduces transaction costs.
Cons.:
If any consumer loses cards, it may take a long while to procure another.
Its ingeniosity is only questionable when it comes to cyber fraud and hacking - like any other
network technology, there is a high chance that a hacker is working on ways to exploit the
system and they can also hack PIN.
So, it is clear that it is too difficult to make comment on this issue. No cashless systems have fully replaced
cash yet, but many influential technology and finance companies believe that this is the next big thing. So
it is also an important fact that every nation needs a cashless society at present time as a way to
standardize its economy.

Natural disasters and awareness in citizen--comment

SBI PO 2016
Natural disasters are extreme, sudden events caused by environmental factors that injure people and
damage property. A natural disaster is a major event resulting from natural processes of earth. It causes
loss of lives and property. During such disasters, the number of people who are rendered, tripled and
houseless is more than the number of people who loose their lives. Even the economy of the place which
faces a natural disaster, gets effected. It is true that a natural disaster is a natural process, and we cannot
stop it but by increasing awareness among people, we can reduce the magnitude of the loss to life and
property.
The earth is a dynamic entity that is undergoing changes all the time. Normal changes such as those
occurring to the weather and the seasons are part and parcel of living. We live our lives according to these
changes regardless of whether we like it or not. However, sometimes the forces of nature cause great and
drastic changes, and for us, the effect can be disastrous. The natural disasters that really affect people
worldwide tend to become more intense as the years goes on. Frequency of earthquakes, mega storms,
and heat waves has gone up considerably in the last few decades. We as human beings can only reduce
the effect of natural disasters by increasing awareness among people about these natural disasters and
by doing some preparations.
The key to reducing loss of life, personal injuries, and damage from natural disasters is widespread public
awareness and education. People must be made aware of what natural hazards they are likely to face.
They should know in advance what specific preparations to make before any kind of natural disaster, what
to do during a hurricane, earthquake, flood, fire, or other likely event, and what actions to take in its
aftermath. Televisions, Radio, and Social media platforms can also a play a very important role in
increasing public awareness about any natural disaster.
Apart from increasing public awareness we can do some preparations, to save human beings from these
disastrous natural events. We should also have insurance policies so that we could have sufficient money
to rebuilt our lives after any such disaster. The scientists should invent advance warning systems. While
construction we should make sure that it is strong enough to withstand earthquakes. We should educate
people about evacuation during any disaster.

Subject: Informing about the present scenario of river Hooghly and suggesting steps to rejuvenate it.
Respected Sir,
I want to express my views and grievances about the present mourning scenario about river Ganga, which
is locally known as Hooghly thorough your esteemed column. As we all know river is considered sacred
and holy in our Indian culture. It is also the backbone of Indian economy as many people earn their
livelihood depending on river. As India is a country based on agriculture, river plays an inevitable role to
keep pace in this sector. But it is very much concerning and painful that like many other rivers in India,
Hooghly has also lost its own entity due to high level of pollution.
Industrialization is one of the most important part to improve the economical background of the common
people. To enhance the industrial sector many petro-chemical institutes, oil factories and other industrial
set ups are being established on the bank of the river. But the government and the respective authorities
are not careful enough to take precautions to save the river. Huge amount of industrial waste are mixing
with the water of the river regularly and polluting the water of the river.
Union government has initiated many projects like Swachch Bharat Mission, Namami Gange projects to
keep rivers and our cities clean. But these initiatives are not enough to save the life and sacredness of the
rivers. They have to direct the industrial authorities to manage their industrial waste in such a way that
they cannot mix with the water of the river and pollute it. Most importantly common people have to be
more careful and more concern to keep the life of their city clean and pollution free. I hope my attempt
will be fruitful to drag the attention of the concerning authorities regarding this burning problem.
Thanking you.
Yours faithfully,

Responsibility of the citizen on the Farmers of India
India is an agrarian economy, which means, Agriculture is the pre-dominant sector of the Indian economy.
In spite of the Indian economy opening out to the world and globalization, close to 65-70% of the
population still depends on agriculture for its livelihood.
Due to the Green Revolution, India is now self-sufficient in food production, gone are the days when India
had to import even food grains for daily consumption. Indian agriculture has been making technological
advancement as well. Today, a visit to the villages will reveal that more and more farmers are adopting
mechanization for their farming, there is an overall improvement in the agricultural trends in India.
Does that mean everything is looking bright for Indian agriculture? A superficial analysis of the above
points would tempt one to say yes, but the truth is far from it. Behind all the growth and development
lies the reality that Indian farmers have to face - extreme poverty and financial crisis driving them to

suicides. The statics of the deaths are so high that there is nothing personal or moving left in them. Is it
not shameful to our country? To understand this, one should analyze the agricultural set up in India.
There is some Problems of Indian agriculture discussed below1. Agriculture is unorganized activity today
2. Indian agriculture is predominantly dependant on nature.
3. India has witnessed a spate of droughts over the last decade. The worst affected being the cotton
farmers of the state of Maharashtra.
4. The farmers normally resort to borrowing from money lenders, in the absence of institutionalized
finance.
5. Majority of the farmers in India own as little as 2 acres of land, cultivation on such small sized
lands is not effective.
What then needs to be done to prevent this sad state of affairs? There cannot be one single solution to
end the woes of farmers. Giving monetary relief is not an effective solution. Here are some solutions that
could help in improving the state of the farmers:
1. The dependency of agriculture on nature should be reduced. This calls for effective management
of water during seasons of good monsoons.
2. Making institutional finance available to every farmer is another important solution to save to the
farmers from debt traps of money lenders.
3. Small farmers should be encouraged to develop alternative sources of income and the
government should take up the responsibility of providing training to the farmers to acquire new
skills.
The sacrifice of our beloved leaders will be found worthy only if the poor condition of farmers is improved
to get the respect from the society. Being a citizen of this great country, we all should come forward and
help poor farmers. So, the interest of the farmers should be enlightened at all situations to make them a
respectable citizen of a country. If India has to shine, it is these farmers that need to be empowered.

Subject: Rising e waste in India
Sir,
I would like to express my views on the rising e-waste in India. As we know new technologies makes our
life better, but with the adoption of new gadgets, the older ones becomes obsolete and are discarded
eventually. This amounts to the rising electronic waste. India is the fifth largest producer of e-waste
generating 18 lakh tonnes of e-waste every year, according to a study.
With the advent of LCD technology, CRT monitors and TVs became obsolete and became part of e-waste.
Similarly older phones disused with the rise of smartphones in India. India is the worlds second largest
mobile market, there are about 100 crore mobile phones in India, out of which 25% end up in waste
annually.
E-waste contains harmful substances like lead, mercury and cadmium which not only pollutes the
environment but also causes serious health problems.
The government has notified e-waste management rules in which the producer will have the
responsibilities of waste collection. But the problem is that the majority of e-waste is handled by
unorganised sector, this will make it difficult for companies to comply with the rules.
The government should implement these rules in a phased manner so that alarming rate of e-waste can
be handled effectively.
Sincerely,
Optimus

Banking Apps, which basically makes payments easier and faster have been popular among all the
generations, especially the senior citizens lately. A survey last year showed that nearly 2.3 million people
aged between 70 to 100 years are now equipped with the internet and banking apps. They use it for paying
their bills, transfer money and read their account statements without even visiting the bank quiet often.
It breaks down the myth that technology is meant for the youngsters. The Silver Surfers, as they were
called in the survey, have made full use of the technology without trudging around the town. With this
new revolution no one feels excluded from these easy-to-use technologies. Banks have also encouraged
their customers to learn the use of their banking applications.
Apps like M-wallet, Chillar, Pockets, Tap and Pay, etc. have successfully shattered the boundaries of
generation gap. A report from BBF stated that the oldest person to download a certain banking app was
108 years old. More than 50% of the customers using the Banking applications were above 60 years of
age. The participation of elderly people in the technological reform has increased considerably in the past
few years.
Statistics like these show the enormous growth of technology in the Banking sector. With the participation
of the elderly people the vision Digital India has got a major boost. Times are not far when the banking
sector will be fully digitized.
