PUBLISHER'S PREFACE

"This is he third book in James Churchward's Mu series, one of several hich slipped into the public domain in the US because some p perwork wasn't submitted on time to the copyright office. T is one seemed to be the most on-topic for this site.

Accordi to Churchward, Mu was a lost continent in the Pacific Ocean, hich was destroyed in a global cataclysm tens of thousan s of years ago; Mu was the original home of mankind, and all ubsequent civilizations descended from it. The Pacific islands nd their inhabitants are supposed to be the last survivo ofthis primordial motherland. Churchward's Mu was a huge co tinent, which stretched from Micronesia in the West to Easter I land and Hawaii in the East. Churchward also believed in a lite I mid-Atlantic Atlantis. He proposed a global network of huge gas-filled caverns which, if vented, could cause large areas of and to be submerged."

The Sacred Symbols Mu

PREFACE

THIS work n Sacred Symbols has been compiled at the suggestion of the late Irving Putnam who felt and assured m that such a work would be appreciated by the public.

The kindly way in which the public have received my first two books on Mu call for my most sincere thanks and makes me feel that my life's ork has not been in vain.

In this work I ha e given my personal view why religion is in such a chaotic ate today. There are over three hundred religions and sect and only One God.

I wish particularly to poin out in the present volume that I am not giving the meani gs of symbols in the vestments in which they are now gar ed. I am giving their origin and original meanings.

Up to the time of Mu's sub ersion all symbols retained their original meanings. From the time of MU's destruction I must pass over about 5,000 or 6, a years. Those were years when seemingly no history was wr en except a few scraps in India and Egypt.

During this time mankind ap arently was reviving and repeopling the earth, after its almos total destruction by the submersion of Mu and other lands a d the subsequent formation of gas belts and mountains.

On entering Egypt 6,000 ye rs ago we find that many of the original symbols had survived but were very much Egyptianized, especially in pattern or d sign, with an incomprehensible theology attached to them. A multitude of new ones had besides been added, most 0 them having esoteric or hidden meanings.

This confusion increased wh n Upper and Lower Egypt merged into one kingdom. The tw peoples not only commingled personally, but also their tw sets of symbols. Thus two sets were made into one withou any being discarded. It meant at least two symbols for eve conception. So great was the confusion of symbols in Egy t, 4,000 to 5,000 years ago, that

hard Iy one-half of the priesthood understood those used in he temples of other cities, although they might be but a few m les away.

The next period to note in Egyptian history is the reigns of he Ptolemys.

Many Greek philosophers then went to Egypt and were tau ht the Egyptian Sacred Mysteries. This knowledge they took b ck to Greece, commencing about 600 B. C. In Greece the Sac ed Mysteries were Grecianized, new names and further theol gy were added. The result, generally, was the creation of amusing myths. The familiar Grecian myths may therefore be said to be influenced by the legends and teachings of Egypt and India.

The next point to note is Mu's destruction, which removed motherly control over religion and science throughout world. The consequence was that each colony framed its 0 n laws, at the same time making changes in religion to uit themselves.

It is very noticeable among all ancient people that directly he control of the Motherland was removed, those countries be

to fall back. As time went on they so degenerated in science religion that the teachings of the First Great Civilization wer at last entirely forgotten and became a thing of the past. My hs, those shadows of the past, alone remained. Here and th however, solitary flowers strove to raise their heads out of he weeds which now choked the world's garden.

Coming down to present times, I find writers, supposed to be scholars, giving meanings to symbols that are purely mythi al, the outcome, it may be, of fantastic dreams, and absolu ely erroneous. Where they got their ideas I cannot imagi e.

Certainly not from the ancient writings. The result is that science has drifted into an age of theories. Theories are made subservient to facts. A fa t cannot be a fact un less their crazy theories prove it. The m re abstruse and bizarre the theory is, the more, apparently, it is scientifically thought of. A theory that is not even understood b the originator himself, and by no one else on earth, meets with cientific approval.

NRY.--Freemasons in their ceremonies use many of the an ient symbols. They freely admit that the original meanings ar now forgotten but they know that originally the symbols ere sacred, being used in religious ceremonies in the infinite days that are past and had a religious and moral meaning in lin with the First Religion of Man--their origin.

Symbols and symbolisms re a principal division of archaeology. I am not a professional ar haeologist, but I love the ancient and for over fifty years have een diligent in the study of it. When Mu went down the schoo of archaeology went with her.

ARCHAEOlOGY.--The dat when archaeology was first studied reaches far back into the distant past. More than 15,000 years ago, the ancients had spe ial colleges for its study.

In these colleges a very rofound knowledge of their past was attained. The further we go back, the more profound we find that archaeological knowl dge.

like all other ancient sci nces, archaeology had a dark cloud cast over it when Mu th Motherland sank and the First Great Civilization was wiped 0 t. Only seeds, remnants of mankind, were left here and there, out of which a new civilization was in time to develop.

The Sacred Symbols of Mu

It is virtually within memory of living man that t e study of archaeology has been again undertaken. Those wh today call themselves archaeologists are, generally, diggers of e remains of man who lived, say, from 1,000 to 5,000 years ag . These are but of yesterday in h u rna n history. Why do they not go back to the beginning, as the ancients did 15,000 years ago? The archaeological study of the ancients included the w ole history of man from his beginning 200,000 years be re, if the astronomical evidence whereby such dates are co puted may be accepted.

Archaeology embraces much more than it is thoug to do. As the ancients studied it, it was a fascinating story. It may be deemed a religion for, at every step, the student is onfronted with works of a Supreme Conception, with sym ols of the power and wisdom of the Creator. The sights ause him contemplation, contemplation brings him in touc with the Supreme, the great Arch itect and Builder of all. As he student progresses, he becomes aware that other branches of science are intimately connected with it: geology, chemistry, astronomy and the Cosmic Forces. These must all be mastere to obtain the full benefit of what has been written and left be ind by our forefathers for us, to act as guideposts to the gre ter knowledge.

NATURE.--Nature shows man what is the Origin of li e. It shows man's connection with the Great Source and the G at Cosmic Forces which control the Universe.

It also shows the origin of these Forces. Thus archae logy is but one letter in the long word that unfolds the wonders and glories of Creation, it brings man in closer touch with th Heavenly Father.
