Installation
This chapter sets out in detail the installation procedure for the
MBS1800 and the parts included with the equipment. The person responsible
for the installation should check to ensure that there are no missing parts
prior to the installation.

Inside the MBS1800 carton, apart from the MBS1800 hardware itself the
following 12 part types are included as well:
(1) H Frame
(2) Capped Pipe Clamps x 2
(3) Capless Pipe Clamps x 2
(4) 3/8”Long Screws x 4
(5) 3/8”Medium Screws x 4
(6) 5/16”Short Screws x 4
(7) Nuts
(8) Screws
(9) Power Connector
(10) Alarm Connector
(11) Alarm Connector Dust Cover
(12) 1W Load

Waterproofing materials, cabling to connect the base station and antennae,

RF connectors and lightning protector device
are not included in the MBS1800 package.
Installation the Casing
As shown in Diagram <5>, the MBS1800’s maximum dimensions
are height 690mm, width 380mm and depth 230mm. For ensure smooth
ventilation of hot air however, when installing the MBS1800 casing the
base should be raised at least 30cm above the ground and at least 10cm of
space kept clear on each side.

Diagram <5>

The MBS1800 casing can be attached directly to the wall using screws,
but to expedite future maintenance, repairs and removal, and to make it
easier to affix the MBS1800 casing to a steel tower or antenna support
pole, we suggest the use of the H Frame to secure the MBS1800 casing.
The H Frame dimensions are as shown in Diagram <6>. If hanging the
MBS1800 casing on a wall, before installation two holes should be drilled
into the wall based on the measurements shown in Diagram <6>. After
screw anchors have been inserted, secure the H Frame. Now refer to
Diagram <7> and screw in two 3/8” medium screws from the lower rear
of the H Frame to act as load bearing points for the casing. Finally refer
to Diagram <8> and place the indentations in the base of the MBS1800
casing on the two 3/8” medium screws described above, and then use the
bolts and nuts to secure the four corners of the MBS1800 casing.

If the MBS1800 is to be attached to an antenna support pole, then two
capless pipe clamps must first be secured to the H Frame as shown in
Diagram <9>. The capped pipe clamps and capless pipe clamps on the H
Frame can then be used to secure the H Frame to the antenna support pole.
Now refer to Diagram <7> and screw in two 3/8” medium screws from
the lower rear of the H Frame to act as load bearing points for the casing.
Then refer to Diagram <9> and place the indentations in the base of the
MBS1800 casing on the two 3/8” medium crews described above, and
then use the bolts and nuts to secure the four corners of the MBS1800
casing.

Power Supply Connector and Alarm Connector
Manufacture
As the AC power supply and alarm connectors is based on the
MS3106 series military specification, so the connections need to be
welded together. The procedure to assemble the power supply and alarm
connector are shown separately in Diagram <10> and Diagram <11>.
The power supply and alarm connectors have different dimensions.
They may look similar but their connections are different and there is no
commonality in their components.

The AC power connector’s B connection is the Ground, while A and C

are connected to the power switch. Thought MBS1800 can accept power
supplies between AC 90 ~ 235V, due to power supply cable length
considerations a power supply with over AC 200V is recommended. If a
power supply below AC 120V is used, it is recommended that serious
thought be given to the power supply cable length and conductor
cross-section surface area.

If 220V AC power supply is being used, remember to change the fuse

to 7A type as the product is designed and manufactured using 15A fuse.
When replacing, place fuse into the holder and turn it slowly to tighten.
After tightening the fuse, cover up with the holder cap. Avoid tightening
the fuse directly with holder cap as the holder cap may damage and
preventing future replacement of fuse.

For the alarm connector, B is common. Between A and B is normal close,

between B and C is normal open.

RF Connection Installation
The connection ports located in the base of the MBS1800 casing
are as shown in Diagram <12>. The relationship between the RF ports,
the base station and the antenna are as shown in Diagram <13>.

Diagram <12>

Diagram <13>

As the MBS1800 does not include a lightning protector, we recommend

that a lighting protector and lighting grounding wire be installed at the RF
outputs OUT_1 and OUT_2.

In addition, in avoid to the RF output signal from OUT_1 going directly

into OUT_2 causing the uplink signal’s low noise amplifier to become
saturated, separate antennas or a polarized antenna array with an isolation
of over 30dB should be used for OUT_1 and OUT_2.
Waterproofing
As the MBS1800 casing is waterproofed to IP54 outdoor standards,
no additional waterproofing measures are necessary during installation.
Thermal expansion and contraction as well as oxidization due to
electrolysis at the connections may degrade the MB1800's performance
and lead to hardware failure. The various connection points therefore
need to be properly waterproofed.

As the MBS1800 connections are made from metallic materials, these

absorb and dissipate heat faster than air. If the connections are not
properly waterproofed, the connectors will be warmer during the day than
the surrounding air, meaning air will be squeezed out from between the
connection and its waterproofing. During the night, the connectors will be
colder than their surroundings, and air will be drawn into the space
between the connector and the waterproofing. Moisture in the atmosphere
will also condense on the surface of the connector. Over time, water will
collect in the connector. The collected water will be electrolyzed by RF
signals or power supply current, causing the connector contact to oxidize
and degrading the connection.

For the waterproofing of the MBS1800’s connections, we suggest the

following procedure:
(1) Use heat shrink tubing for the first layer of waterproofing. This aims
to protect the gap where the connection is made from the substance
used for the second layer of waterproofing.
(2) For the second layer of waterproofing, epoxy resin is used. As this is
where the real waterproofing effect is, the resin must cover the
connection all the way to the screws securing them to the MBS1800
casing.
(3) The third layer of waterproofing uses stretchable waterproof duct
tape. To ensure there are no gaps between the resin and the connector,
this material is used to apply pressure to the resin.
(4) The fourth layer of waterproofing is UV blocking duct tape since the
duct tape used in the third layer is in direct contact with the resin so
has virtually no adhesiveness. This protective duct tape I used to
protect the waterproofing duct tape and stop it from coming loose due
to UV damage.
(5) The fifth layer of waterproofing uses UV resistant waterproof glue.
This layer of glue covers the fourth layer to create a unified layer of
waterproofing and prevents it coming loose.
