Maintenance of the stock of the meteorological office forms and equipment by liaising with port meteorological officers
Contributions:
Assisting the chief officer so as to ensure the safe handling, deployment, recovery, and stowage of equipment at sea
Assisting the chief officer in loading, stowing and discharge of stores when in port
Achievements:
Fulfilment of the function of principal observing officer

Responsibilities:
Cargo operations - oversee the loading, stowage, securing and unloading of cargo
Fire and security watches
Monitoring of communications, anchor or mooring lines
Development of ship passage plans - undocking, departure, en route portion of the voyage, approach, and mooring
Correction and update of navigation charts
Constant verification of the functionality of all the navigational equipment, including routine inspection of all safety and emergency equipment and monitoring
of the radio equipment
Coordination with first mate and captain in scheduling and executing routine emergency drills
Maintenance of distress signalling equipment
Enforcement of all applicable regulations safety, pollution

Contributions:
Assisting the chief mate with the COW & tank cleaning operations
Contribute to the maintenance of the skiffs under the First Mates direction and supervision
Watch standing - navigation watches when underway and security/safety watches when in port and at anchor
Achievements:
Effective operation of the vessel to the highest professional standards using accepted management practices, with emphasis on the crew, cargo and vessel
safety
