Definition of Terms
Ballistician- an authority on or one versed in ballistics; especially : a member of a
police force who studies the evidence and determines the facts relating to the use of
firearms in criminal cases.

CHED- Commission on Higher Education abbreviated as CHED, is attached to
the Office of the President for administrative purposes. It covers both public and
private higher education institutions as well as degree-granting programs in all postsecondary educational institutions in the country.
Civil Service Commission- is a government agency that is constituted by
legislature to regulate the employment and working conditions of civil servants,
oversee hiring and promotions, and promote the values of the public service. Its role
is roughly analogous to that of the human resources department in corporations.
Community- a group of people with a common characteristics or interest living
together within a larger society
Community Immersion-are designed to get prospective or existing college or
university students acquainted with issues in their local communities or abroad.
Students usually do some volunteer work on service projects that deal with

environmental, social or economic issues the community faces. Field trips, meetings
with local leaders and social activities with those in the community are also common
Correctional administration- A program that prepares individuals to plan and
manage institutional facilities and programs for housing and rehabilitating prisoners
in the public and/or private sectors.
Crime Detection- The process of uncovering criminal activity (or verifying
reported crime) and acquiring evidence in order to identify and prosecute its
perpetrators. In most countries, conducted by the police or specialist lawenforcement agencies..
Criminal investigation- is an applied science that involves the study of facts, used
to identify, locate and prove the guilt of an accused criminal. A complete criminal
investigation can include searching, interviews, interrogations, evidence collection
and preservation and various methods of investigation.
Criminal Jurisprudence- It includes principles behind law that make the law.
Scholars of jurisprudence, also known as jurists or legal theorists (including legal
philosophers and social theorists of law), hope to obtain a deeper understanding of
the nature of law, of legal reasoning, legal systems, and of legal institutions.
Criminal Justice- is the system of practices and institutions of governments
directed at upholding social control, deterring and mitigating crime, or sanctioning
those who violate laws with criminal penalties and rehabilitation efforts.

Criminal Psychology- also referred to as criminological psychology, is the study of
the wills, thoughts, intentions, and reactions of criminals and all that partakes in the
criminal behavior. It is related to the field of criminal anthropology.
Criminologists -are a species of sociologists who study criminal behavior, causes,
and control as it relates to culture and society.
Criminology- is the specific study of crime, including its causes, responses by law
enforcement, and methods of prevention. It is a sub-group of sociology, which is the
scientific study of social behavior. There are many fields of study that are used in the
field of criminology, including biology, statistics, psychology, psychiatry, economics
and anthropology.
Crisis Management- is the application of strategies designed to help an
organization deal with a sudden and significant negative even.

In either

case, crises almost invariably require that decisions be made quickly to limit
damage to the organization.
Degree- a rank or grade of official, ecclesiastical or social position
Human Behavior- refers to the full range of physical and emotional behaviors that
humans engage in; biologically, socially, intellectually, etc. and are influenced by
culture, attitudes, emotions, values, ethics, authority, rapport, persuasion, coercion
and/or genetics.

Internship- is a temporary position with an emphasis on on-the-job training rather
than merely employment, and it can be paid or unpaid. If you want to go into
publishing, you might have to take an internship before you are qualified for an
actual job.
Judiciary- the judicial authorities of a country
Law Enforcement- is any system by which some members of society act in an
organized manner to enforce the law by discovering, deterring, rehabilitating, or
punishing people who violate the rules and norms governing that society.
Mandated- give (someone) authority to act in a certain way.
Operation- the fact or condition of functioning or being active.
Practicum- a practical section of a course of study.
Probation Officer- a person appointed to supervise offenders who are on probation.
Profession- a paid occupation, especially one that involves prolonged training and a
formal qualification.
Program- a planned series of future events, items, or performances.
Prosecution- the institution and conducting of legal proceedings against someone in
respect of a criminal charge.

R.A. 4864- an act creating the police commission, amending and revising the laws
relative to the local police system, and for other purposes.
Security Administrator- is a person who manually administers user access rights
to systems
Trimester- a period of three months.
