Q.5. Answer the following in details :
(1) Read the paragraph and answer the following questions :
Take three test tubes and place clean iron nails in each of them.
Label these test tubes A, B and C. Pour some water in test tube A and cork it. Pour
boiled distilled water in test tube B. Add about 1ml of oil and cork it. The oil will
float on water and prevent the iron nail from coming in contact with air. Put some
anhydrous calcium chloride in the test tube C and cork it. Anhydrous calcium chloride
will absorb the moisture if any in the air. Leave the test tubes for a few days and
then observe.
(i) What would you observe in test tube A?
(ii) Why is oil poured over water in test tube B?
(iii) Will the iron nails in test tube C rust? What could be the reason?
(iv) The nail do not rust in test tube B. What could be the reason for this?
(v) Chemically what is rust called? Give its molecular formula.
