INSTALLATION
a. Install the power pack ground wire, and position
the wire so there will be no pull (stretch) when the
power pack is installed. Excessive pull on the
ground wire could result in ignition failure. See
Figure 4 -44.
b. Mount the power pack and tighten the screws to
the torque specified in Section 2.
, . , NOTE
Carefully align the connector halves during
assembly to provide proper terminal contact.
c. Reconnect the three wire and four wire connectors, and secure each connector with a retainer.

a. Separate the three wire connector between the

power pack and ignition coils.

b. Twist and pull on the cover to remove the high

tension lead from the spark plug. See Figure 4-46.
c. Release the ignition coil wires from the support
. clamp, and remove the coil mounting screws.
INST ALLATION

d. Remove the ignition coil terminal from the three

wire connector.

a. Insert the ignition coil terminal into the three

wire connector.

b. Mount the ignition coil to the eng'ine with the lockwasher between the engine block and ground wire
connector. See Figure 4-47.
c. Secure the high tension lead to the spark plug.

d. Reconnect the three wire connector, and secure
with retainer.

To insure proper ignition timing check the
No. 1 (TOP) ignition coil orange lead to be
sure it is in the "B" terminal of the connector, and that it connects to the orange/blue
stripe wire from the power pack.

h. Pull the driveshaft and bearing housing out of the

gearcase and remove pinion gear. Push shift rod
down in reverse gear position.
i. Remove four screws from shift rod cover assembly. See Figure 6-18. Unscrew shift rod from
shifter detent in gearcase. Remove shift rod and
cover assembly as an assembly.
j. Remove propeller shaft, forward gear and bearing housing from gearcase as an assembly. See
Figure 6- 22.

DISASSEMBLY OF PROPELLER SHAFT,

FORWARD GEAR AND SHIFT
MECHANISM
a. Remove clutch dog pin retainer spring, pin, and
clutch dog, and remove propeller shaft, forward gear
and bearing, and bearing housing. Discard the
retainer spring. See Figure 6-24.

Remove bearing setscrew from gearcase before attempting lower driveshaft bearing removal. See Figure 6-23 insert.

k. If necessary, remove lower driveshaft bearing.

Using parts from Bearing Remover-Installer (Special Tool #385546, remover Special Tool #320672).
See Figure 6-23.
Place washer, bearing, plate, and guide sleeve on
bolt in that order. See Figure 6-23. Insert in gearcase. Screw remover #320672 onto screw thru gearcase cavity. Shoulder on tool must face lower bearing. Tighten screw with wrench to remove bearing.
PROPELLER SHAFT BEARING HOUSING
Oil seals can be removed by driving them out. Bearings may be removed in the same manner, if necessary. All nut and screw threads that were coated
with OMC Nut Lock or Screw Lock must be thoroughly
cleaned before reassembly.
