Petition Letter to SK:

Dear Meredith and my Sigma Kappa Sisters,

The bonds, relationships, experiences, and laughter I have shared with
each of you are irreplaceable. I have grown and matured during this
past year and a half and I believe it was, in great part, an effect of
being a part of Sigma Kappa. Since entering college, it has been a time
of beneficial but difficult growth. I have learned so much about myself
as a person and as a student. But, more importantly, I have learned
how to overcome hardships. I have had to draw upon every last bit of
strength and determination to continue the path I have chosen for
myself. The choice to pursue engineering was out of interest and the
desire to learn as opposed to innate ability. Anyone can tell you,
engineering is far from a breeze. This has become especially apparent
to me. I have put in hours of effort and studying to get where I am.
While the grades might not reflect the actual level of my knowledge
and understanding, I have not let that deter me. I will admit, it was
incredibly discouraging to put in the time that I have and receive some
of the grades that I have. As a result, the feelings of frustration and
helplessness turned into an ongoing struggle, with that I have been
struggling with for over a year. In spite of this ongoing struggle, I have
pushed myself to continue my Civil Engineering degree. I am still
fascinated by my classes and am willing to work hard. Yes, if I had an
easier major my GPA would be higher, but I did not come to this
university to be defined by three numbers. I came to learn and pursue
a passion, and I have no plan to give up on it. That being said, I realize
my GPA does not reflect the requirements that need to be maintained
in order to stay in Sigma Kappa. I would hope that instead of seeing
this as a time for expulsion, you would see this as a grace period and
time of encouragement for a fellow sister to continue to pursue a
passion and a goal. Being a part of Sigma Kappa has meant more to
me than I could ever explain. Not only do I have so many close ties
with the girls at Auburn, but also it has created a closeness and bond
with my Aunt that I could have never imagined. She was also a Sigma
Kappa at University of Tennessee, Martin and continues to stay active
within the organization as an advisor at Costal Carolina University as
well as president of the Sigma Kappa alumni group of Charleston.
Having this added dimension in our relationship has meant so much to
us both. I would love and appreciate the chance to work hard and bring
my average up to above a 2.5 by the end of the semester while
continuing as a part of Sigma Kappa. Thank you all so much for your
time.
Love,
Jas
