Chapter 3 Theory of Operation
OVERVIEW
Models QW-400, QW-420, QW-420-D and QW-420-S feature sufficient vertical travel to
accommodate all upright exams, and fail-safe electromagnetic locks for secure image
receptor positioning.
MECHANICAL OPERATION - MODELS QW-420, QW-420-D, QW-420-S
Smooth vertical (upward and downward) image receptor movement is achieved by
attachment of the receptor to a Vertical Trolley, which rides on eight spring-loaded
radial ball bearings along with four metal shielded guide bearings bolted to it.
MECHANICAL OPERATION - MODEL QW-400
Smooth vertical (upward and downward) image receptor movement is achieved by
attachment of the receptor to a set of fourspring-loaded Receptor Bearing Guides.
ELECTRICAL OPERATION - MODELS QW-420, QW-420-D, QW-420-S
See Figure 5-1 in Chapter 5, DIAGRAMS.
Two fail-safe brakes (24 VDC electromagnets) are located at the top of the vertical
column (part of the Vertical Pulley/Brake Assembly). When the electromagnets are
de-activated (i.e., the Receptor Cabinet Lock Release Button is not pressed), the fail-
safe brakes "grab" the counterweight cable pulleys securely, locking the vertical
motion of the receptor cabinet. Pressing the Receptor Cabinet Lock Release Button
energizes the 24 VDC electromagnets, releasing the fail-safe brakes and allowing the
counterweight cable pulleys to spin freely thereby enabling vertical motion of the
receptor cabinet.
ELECTRICAL OPERATION - MODEL QW-400
See Figure 5-2 in Chapter 5, DIAGRAMS.
A fail-safe brake (24 VDC electromagnets) is located at the top right corner of the ver-
tical frame. When the electromagnet is de-activated (i.e., the Receptor Cabinet Lock
Release Button is not pressed), the fail-safe brake "grabs" the counterweight cable
pulley securely, locking the vertical motion of the receptor cabinet. Pressing the
Receptor Cabinet Lock Release Button energizes the 24 VDC electromagnet, releasing
the fail-safe brake and allowing the counterweight cable pulley to spin freely thereby
enabling vertical motion of the receptor cabinet.
