Disease

How does the disease affect each of the

following levels of organization?
Organism
A Disease-Causing Organism is a microorganism that can make you sick if you
eat it, inhale it, or come into contact with
it (get it on your skin, or in your ears, etc).

Organ System
Digestive
and
Urologic
Diseases:
Diseases of the digestive system involve
many organs (e.g., intestine, stomach,
liver, gallbladder, and pancreas) and
include disorders such as irritable bowel
syndrome, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's
disease, celiac disease, peptic ulcer
disease, gallstones, gastroesophageal
reflux disease, and chronic pancreatitis.
Organ
If the tumor is large and has blocked
your colon, the doctor may use a
colonoscope to put a stent (a hollow
metal or plastic tube) inside the colon to
keep it open ...
Tissue
Epidermolysis bullosa (EB). People with
EB have skin that is so fragile that it tears
or blisters as a result of a minor bump,
stumble, or even friction from clothing.
Some forms of EB may involve the
digestive tract, the respiratory tract, the
muscles, or the bladder. Caused by
defects of several proteins in the skin, EB
is usually evident at birth.
Cell
Sickle-cell disease (SCD) is a group of
genetically passed down blood disorders.
The most common type is known as
sickle-cell anaemia (SCA). It results in an
abnormality in the oxygen-carrying
protein haemoglobin found in red blood
cells.
