router/modemafterhavingflasheditwithsomewrongdefaultfirmwarepresentintheCDthat
camealongwiththatmodempurchasedfromBSNL.Youcandirectlyjumpontothestepsifyou
dontwanttobebotheredaboutmybitterexperienceinfiguringoutthefeasiblewaytoflash
andtheassumptionsIhavemadetherein.
EXPERIENCE:
Thoughthereareinnumerableposts/threadsintheinternetonthis,itwasahardtimetofigure
outtheexactstepstofixflashmyUTStarcomWA3002G4ADSL2+router/modemwithan
appropriatefirmware.Because,eachofthethreads/postsdiscussedaboutthestepstobe
followedinadiscretemannerleavingoutsomeintermediatestepstofollow.Ofcourse,there
wouldhavebeenassumptionsabouttheintermediatestepstherein,butforanimpatientperson
likemethatapproachseemedtobeinadequatelyhelpful.
Well,enoughoftalking,letmetellyouthestepsIfollowedbywhichmyUTStarcom
WA3002G4modem/routerwasreborn!
ASSUMPTIONS:
Assumptionsmade(ratherthestateofmyrouter/modemwiththewrongfirmware!):
1)PowerLEDissteadilylit.
2)DSLLEDisnotlit(thereissomethingaboutthisDSLLEDandLimitedorNoConnectivityI
needtoshare.IwillshareintheendDontwanttoobstructtheflow).
3)NootherLEDsarelit(duh!)
4)YougetLimitedorNoconnectivityastheconnectionstatusafterthewrongfirmwareflash.
Andyeah,youwillseesomefakeIPAddressassignedbyDHCP(notactually).

TTLvalueof100receivedbythepingaction(pingt192.168.1.1).Thevalue100meansthatthe
bootloaderisalive!ThankGod!So,onlytaskleftistorestorethefirmwareandlettheboot
loaderloadthatfirmwareyeah,moreofunnecessaryinfoIamsharingBut,forthesakeof
clarity,Iamcompelledtodoso!
****STEPSTOREFLASHAWRONGLYFLASHEDUTSTARCOMWA3002G4
MODEM/ROUTER****
Herewego.Simplestepsfollowed:
1)Connecttherouter/modemtoPCusingethernetcableandhavethepoweradapterconnected
totherouter/modemaswell.
2)Poweron(duh!).
3)ManuallyassignastaticIPAddresstoyourPC(AnyIPAddresswoulddoaspermy
experience,say192.168.1.3)withsubnetmask255.255.255.0.Dontworryaboutotherstuffs
DefaultGateway,PreferredDNS,AlternateDNS,blahblahLetthembeblank.Noproblem.
NowtheconnectionstatusshouldbeconnectedinsteadofLimitedorNoConnectivity.
4)Switchofftherouter/modemusingthepowerbuttonattheback.
5)Keepthehardrestbutton(microswitchaccessiblethrougharoundpinhole/tinyholeatthe
bottomofthemodem/routernearitsrightleg(cushion)Easily,thistinyholecanbemissed
amidstthesquareholespresenttohelpintheventilation)pressedwitharefill/ballpointpentip.
6)Switchontherouter/modemusingthepowerbuttonatthebackKeepitpressedfor2secs
beforereleasingBetternottousetechniquePlugoutandplugintheadapterfromsocket
Reason?IwillshareintheendDontwanttoobstructtheflow.
7)Afterashortwhile(fewsecs),youwillbeabletoseethepingcommanddisplayingreceiving

pagewiththeinformationindicatingitwilltakeabout2minstoflashtheuploadedfirmware
andthatthemodem/routerwillautomaticallyrebootthereafter(Youshouldseethechangein
connectionstatusfromNetworkcableunpluggedtopluggedtoConnectedwithLimitedorNo
ConnectivityasweyetdonthavetheDSLconnectioninplaceoncetheflashingisdoneandthe
router/modemreboots).
10)Thatsit.Therouter/modemisreborn!\m/Ifneeded,reboot(softresetusingthepower

Well,nowletmetellyoutheissuethatItoldofobstructingtheflowallthesewhile.Itsabout
theConnectionStatusLimitedorNoConnectivity.WheneverIplugoutandpluginthe
adapterfromsocket,nodoubttherouter/modemrebootsautomaticallyonitsownasitspower
buttonwouldstillbeinpressedstate.But,theIPaddressassignedbyDHCP(actuallynot)will
beafakeone169.something.something.somethingandtheconnectionstatuswouldbe
LimitedorNoConnectivity.ThefunnythingistheDSLLEDwouldbewelllitatthispoint!
ThissamefakeindicationDSLLEDbeinglithappensalsowhenthemodem/router(whenin
poweredoffstate)powerbuttonispressedandreleasedveryfastinasecond.Thisveryissue
provokedmetoreflashmyrouterwithanyfirmwareIhad(invariably,Ihadawrongone)!And
theannoyingLimitedorNoConnectivityIexpectednottoreappearoncereflashed.Tome
additionalannoyance,therouter/modembreatheditslastbreathwhenIfeditwithpoisoninthe
formofwrongfirmware.
Okay,thoughtheaboveLimitedorNoConnectivityisverymuchprevalentevenafterre
flashingwhentheaboveactions(plugoutandplugin,andpoweroutageandrestore),my
UTSTARCOMWA3002G4modem/routerisbackinactionaftermy56daysofmentalagony
andstruggle,savingsomemoneyaswell!

DowngradingtoAirtelspreviousversionisnolongeranoption.
Thebestoptionisto:
1.Doahardresetofthemodem.Youwillneedapinorstickofapproximately0.2mmorlessto
effectthereset.Powerontherouter/modem,stickthepin/stickforabout40secondstillthe
lightsgooffandthemodemrestarts.
2.Telnetto198.168.1.1
IfyouareusingWindowsVista,7or8,telnetisnotautomaticallyenabled.Ratherthango
throughControlPanelandspend2hoursenablingWindowstelnet,youwouldbebetteroffto
