Purpose & Mission: To provide a competitive format through which students can develop their
research, analytical, persuasive, and public speaking skills in order to communicate information and
ideas about events that affect the world.

Dues
$35 for existing members. $90 for new members. If this imposes a financial burden, speak to an advisor
or officer. What your money goes to: registration with the NSDA, certificates and degrees of merit, your
senior cords, subsidizing bus costs, subsidizing tournament costs, hiring judges when we dont have
enough of them.
Team Meetings & Practice are one of our mandatory features, every Tuesday from 3:05-4:00PM. They
include team-building and speech-improving warm-ups, general announcements, and break-out group
practice sessions.
Mandatory Team Membership Requirements
1. No more than 2 unexcused absences at team meetings. Sports and other obligations are excused when
discussed in advance. Students must ask coaches if they can attend meetings and then go to practice.
This has been done in years past.
2. Participation at the Tar Heel Forensic League State Tournament
3. Dues must be paid by the due date.
4. Students must acquire at least 6 points
Probation
If you exceed your allotted number of unexcused absences or do not meet the points requirement, you
will be put on probation. To return to good standing with the club, you must demonstrate continued
participation at meetings and tournaments.
Tournament Attire: Students will not be allowed to compete if not properly attired and fees paid will
not be refunded!
Females: all black suit (pants or knee-length skirt), hose worn with skirt, black shoes (pumps
recommended), one post pair of earrings and one matching necklace, hair cut or pinned/sprayed so as not
to fall in face
Males: black suit, long-sleeve dress shirt, conservative tie, dress shoes, hair cut or pinned/sprayed so as
not to fall in face

Leadership Team Selection for 2017-2018

Students may apply for the 2017-2018 leadership team if they reach the following requirements by the
end of the season: fulfilled all qualified membership requirements during year of application AND are not
currently on probation AND have at least 8 points. There are no exceptions to this requirement.

Senior Cords
Anyone who has been in the club for at least 3 years or 2 years and received at least 250 NSDA
points is eligible for a cord at graduation.
