2.1.1 SD Memory Card (support from SW release 2)

The IFUs (from HW release 1) have a slot for an optional SD memory card. The memory card can be used for
configuration backup and storage of performance data. Standard SD or SDHC cards can be used
SD card offered by Nera:
o 2Gb card : TBD

2.2 ODU
The ODU consist of a XCVR and a diplexer. The XCVR is tuneable over the whole frequency band, both high and low
part. The diplexer determines subband range and high or low TX. For most bands and duplex spacings four ODUs
codes are defined. The EDGE XCVRs are not compatible with other XCVRs in the Evolution family. Diplexers,
Antennas and Grounding Kits are common for EDGE, XPAND and METRO.
ODUs from 7-38 GHz can be mounted directly to single polarised antennas up to 180 cm / 6 ft.

4. LICENCES
Evolution Series EDGE has two types of licences; Transmission Capacity/Adaptive Modulation and Features. The
licenses are stored in the IFU. All licenses are SW based and none of them requires additional hardware. HSB
configurations require one license per IFU (double set of licenses).

4.1 Capacity
A licence is required to enable 16 and 32 QAM modulation (max 100 Mbps Ethernet and max link capacity of 111
Mbps). Without this license or the ACM-license the system can only be configured with 4QAM modulation.

4.2 Adaptive Coded Modulation

A license is required to enable Adaptive Coded Modulation. This license supersedes the C100 license (above) and will
in addition enable the adaptive change of modulation based in received SNR.

4.3 NMS encryption

This license enables SSL encryption and the SNMPv3 protocol on the communication between the network element and
the computer (manager).

4.5 E1Cross-Connect (PXC)

A license is available to enable the built-in 4-port E1 cross-connect. With a PXC license you can configure E1 to E1,
E1 to EBUS1, E1 to EBUS2 and E1s in EBUS1 to E1s in EBUS2.
Combined with an E1 license you can also configure the E1s to use the radio-port of the PXC.

4.6 ETHERNET features

Ethernet QoS is standard and does not require any license.

4.6.1 VLAN
This license is used to enable configuration and switching based on VLAN-ID.

VLAN switching license

EVLIC-EDGE-VLANSW

4.6.2 RSTP
This license is used to enable the RST Protocol to avoid Ethernet loops in the network.

Figure 7-1 Single Link configuration (1+0)

Configuration hints and options:
o Use adapter cable 88W5363-MULT400 to get access to ETH4
o NMS and User Traffic are separated when using the factory default configuration (as shown above)
o In MAC-switching mode, NMS and user traffic is mixed, and can be connected to any port
o VLAN-license gives full flexibility to configure NMS and User Traffic to any port
Mandatory licenses:
o None
o
Optional licenses:
o Capacity (C100) or ACM license is needed to use higher modulation than 4QAM
o VLAN license to be included if VLAN partitioning is planned
o RSTP license is needed if there is more than one connection to one external unit not supporting RSTP
Cables:
o ETH1-4:

Figure 7-2 Repeater (1+0) with add/drop of Ethernet-traffic

Configuration hints and options:
o The example shows ETH4 (using an EBUS-cable) used to interconnect the IFUs. ETH2 or ETH3 may also be
used for interconnection of IFUs, but management traffic does not go on ETH2 and ETH3 in default mode
o NMS connection locally is optional. Local management connection to one IFU will also provide access to the
2nd IFU (through ETH4)
o NMS and User Traffic are separated when using the factory default configuration (as shown above)
o In MAC-switching mode, NMS and user traffic is mixed, and can be connected to any port
o VLAN-license gives full flexibility to configure NMS and User Traffic to any port
Mandatory licenses:
o None
Optional licenses:
o Capacity (C100) or ACM license is needed to use higher modulation than 4QAM
o VLAN license to be included if VLAN partitioning is planned
o RSTP license is needed if there is more than one connection to one external unit not supporting RSTP
Cables:
o ETH1-4:

Figure 7-3 Spur Site Ethernet connections

Configuration hints and options:

o The example shows EBUS1 used to interconnect node A & B (Management- and User- traffic)
o Management traffic between node A to C goes through ETH1
o Ethernet traffic from node A to C goes through ETH3
o Traffic (Management and User traffic) from node B to C is going through node A. A redundant connection
may be established between node B and C (requires RSTP license to avoid Ethernet loops)
o Two cables between node A and C is necessary to keep management traffic separated from user traffic. In
MAC-switching mode or with VLAN licenses activated, one cable is sufficient between node A & C
Mandatory licenses:
o None
Optional licenses:
o Capacity (C100) or ACM license is needed to use higher modulation than 4QAM
o VLAN license to be included if VLAN partitioning is planned
o RSTP license is needed if there is more than one connection to one external unit not supporting RSTP or if a
redundant Ethernet connection is established between node B and C.
Cables:
o ETH1-4:

Figure 7-4 Ring Configuration Ethernet connections

Configuration hints and options:

o The example shows ETH4 used to interconnect the IFUs
o It may be wise to avoid using ETH1 for user-traffic to have the port available for management connections
during site visits
o Bridge priority should be modified from default-value to select root bride in the Ethernet-ring (optimization of
RSTP loop break-point)
Mandatory licenses:
o RSTP license is needed on all IFUs to avoid Ethernet loops (available from R2)
Optional licenses:
o Capacity (C100) or ACM license is needed to use higher modulation than 4QAM
o VLAN license to be included if VLAN partitioning is planned
Cables:
o ETH1-4:
