CIVIL QUALITY ACTIVITEIS


EXCAVATION AND BACKFILLING
1) HOW YOU WILL CHECK EXCAVATION TRENCH?
ANS)

as per IFC drawing and project specification requirements.

2) WHAT IS CLEAN SAND?


ANS)

clean sand soil meeting the following gradation containing less than
3% by weight of organic material or clay and less than 10% from
sieve no 200.

3) WHAT IS DUNE SAND?


ANS)

dune sand is wind deposited sand consisting relative single size


particle generally passing the no 16 sieve and usually contain less
than 10% soil particle passing the sieve no 200.

4) DEFINE SELECT FILL MATERIAL?


ANS)

select fill shall be composed of only inorganic material and shall have
100% passing the 5cm sieve and from 0 to 20% passing the sieve no
200.the portion of the material passing no 40 sieve shall have a
maximum liquid limit of 35 and maximum plasticity. The liquid limit
and plasticity limit are not required for select fill material with less
than 15%passing the no 200 sieve.

5) WHAT IS FILL MATERIAL?


ANS)

fill material shall consist of gravel, sand or marl. The maximum size
of fill material shall be one half of the lift thickness or 75 mm (thick of
stone)whichever is less. Fill material shall be free from frozen, lumps,
organic matter, trash, chunks of high plastic clay or other
unsatisfactory material.

6) COMPACTION REQUIRES AS BELOW


I)

for sub grade 90% compaction is required.

II)

All trenches and around foundation 95% compaction is required.

III)
Water mixing in backfilling material the TDS value not more than
10000 PPM
IV)

Select fill material or fill material compacting shall begin only after
the fill or backfill material has been properly placed and material to
be compacted is at the proper moisture content .compaction shall
performed with equipment compatible with soil type.

7) All back filling shall be in layer by layer (each layer 200 mm thick) and
every layer compaction test shall be performed.
8)

Aggregate base course shall be compacted 100% with 1.5 %moisture


content plus or minus, as per lab testing report.

CONCRETE TESTING REQUIREMENT


1.0)

concrete design mix shall be approved by designated authority.

2.0)

concrete shall be either structural or non structural as follows.

2.1)

structural concrete all reinforced concrete including with minimum


reinforcement for temperature and shrinkage control. The
compressive strength shall be 4000 psi.

2.2)

non structural concrete un-reinforcement concrete of no significant


structural value such as lean concrete the minimum compressive
strength shall be 2000 psi.

2.1.1) concrete temperature shall be not more than 32 degree


Celsius.
2.1.2) concrete slump test (100 mm 25mm plus or minus)
2.1.3) raking shall not used to move concrete.
2.1.4) concrete shall not place prior to recorded pre placement
inspection and authorization to proceed by designated
authority.
2.1.5) vibrator shall not be used to move concrete inside of formwork.

2.1.6) concrete shall not be dropped freely where reinforcement will


cause segregation nor shall it be dropped freely more than one
meter height.
2.1.7) concrete shall be deposited as near as possible in its final
position to avoid segregation due to re-handling or flowing.

REQUIRMENT

prior to application of the tack coat surface shall be swept


clean until its free from dirt loose material and any
objectionable material.

2.2

tack coat shall be rc-250 or rc-2 and shall be applied on paved


surface and vertical surface of existing asphalt.

2.3

tack coat shall be maintain temperature rc-250 or rc-1 (55 to


100 degree) and rc-800 or rc-2(80 to 125 degree)

BINDER COURSE AND WEARING COURSE ASPHALT PLACEMENT


TESTING REQUIREMENT.
I)

BINDER COURS
1.0

asphalt binder course shall be placed, temperature shall be tested


prior to placement it shall be not less than 139 degree and
compaction shall be completed before drop below 90 degree.

2.0

thickness of asphalt shall not more 80 mm per layer.

II)

3.0

tack coats shall be applied on surface and vertical joints; temperature


shall be tested prior to placement of wearing course.

4.0

core density tests (binder course) for compaction and thickness shall
be performed and compaction requirement shall be equal to or
greater that 96%.and thickness shall not more than 10% of design
thickness.

WEARING COURSE
1.0

wearing course shall be placed after completing the tack coat


application and wearing course thickness shall not more than 80 mm
thick.
NOTE AFTER COMPLETING BOTH LAYER BINDER AND WEARING
COURSE ASPHALT CORE DENSITY TEST SHALL BE PERFORMED.

II)

core density tests (wearing course) for compaction and thickness


shall be performed and compaction requirement shall be equal to or
greater that 96%.and thickness shall not more than 10% of design
thickness.

FINAL ACCEPTANCE INSPECTION SHALL BE PERFORMED.


NON SHRINK GROUTING WORKS

1) Non shrink grouting minimum compressive strength is 5000 psi after 28 days
curing.
2) Total dissolved solid for mixing and curing water shall not exceed 500 PPM.
3) Grout shall be sample and tested with the following requirement.
3.1) make two sets of three test cubes in the field each day that grout is
mixed and placed. (Total 6 nos of cubes on each day of grouting)
3.2) test compressive strength of cubes test one set on 7 days and one set
on 28 days.

5) Top surface of concrete foundation shall be chipped until exposed and fracture
