Introduction
Dear my fellows,
I write these words for you at 1 a.m., February 10, 2016, when I am sitting alone in my room. I
have been spending 14 days preparing this book for you. Hope you will find it useful and
interesting to your study. Being a student, I understand clearly the importance of studying
English in general and TOEIC in particular. TOEIC is not a subject to learn by rote just because
of scores or certificates. Significantly, it is the subject of reality and application. I guess you now
have the same situation as I did in the past that you hate TOEIC since it is really difficult and
boring. However, it is undeniable that TOEIC plays an important role in our study and career. If
a student wants to graduate from university, he or she has to overcome the TOEIC test. As I
know, the common score for most students in Vietnam is 450. However, this is just a very low
and negligible level at university. In order to compete in working environment, especially in
foreign groups, you need more than that. To be honest, I have to tell you that my starting point of
learning English was extremely bad. Even I was almost attacked by a foreigner when I was
trying to help him in a restaurant. However, I think that thanks to my effort and assiduity, I can
overcome any challenges.
This book is organized to equip you with all strategies as well as tips I have known. Besides, I
try to show you every skill which is necessary and important in any TOEIC tests. I dont hide
anything about my knowledge. Whatever I have learnt, I will go into details in these pages.
As my advice, view the TOEIC test as a challenge on you career path. In order to pass this
challenge, you do not need to be smart or do not have to invest so much. The test only assesses
how well you take TOEIC itself. Try to learn and do exercise as much as possible, adopt a
strategic approach, practice seriously and you can achieve your TOEIC goals. I believe that if
you follow instructions in this book, you will get the score of 450 or even 650 easily.
Finally, I just want to say that I love you much. Although perhaps we havent met each other
before, I really hope that we can become good friends forever.
These words are from the bottom of my heart.

A few days ago, I was disturbed to learn that the front desk has been receiving complaints about
the quality of food served by our kitchens. Last week, there were four complaints about hair
being found in food. This week, there have been several complaints about soil and insects in the
salad from lettuce which has been insufficiently washed. And the last straw, this morning one of
our customers found a false nail in her scrambled eggs at breakfast.
I am not going to point fingers, but I would like to say that all of these complaints were made on
Thursdays and Fridays. While this is not necessarily conclusive, it does rather suggest to me that
the source of these problems is likely to be someone who works on these two days. This narrows
it down to a smaller percentage of the kitchen staff.
However, as I said, I am not going to assign blame, but I do want to remind everyone that all
kitchen staff must have their hair tied back and covered by a hat or hair net at all time.
Fingernails must be kept short and free of any nail polish or nail extensions. As for the incident
of insufficiently washed lettuce, there will be no excuse for this, and I expect all staff to be most
assiduous in checking that all food is prepared perfectly before it is allowed to leave the kitchen.

Questions 181 through 185 refer to the following agenda and minutes.
Agenda for the INSCAN 5th Annual Board Meeting.
Meeting date and time: June 22, 2005 2:25 p.m.
Location: Room 43
Presentation of minutes from the last meeting
Reports
Report from the President and CEO
Report from the Chair of the System Advisory Committee
Finance Committees report
New Business
Budget Changes
Election of new Chair of Finance Committee
Announcements
Adjournment of the meeting
John,
Here is a copy of the minutes from the meeting on June 22nd. Take a look and let me know what
you think before I make more copies to send to everyone. I lost the notes which I made at the
meeting, so tell me if you remember things being the way that I have described below.
Minutes,
The meeting opened with a reading of the minutes of the last meeting by secretary Jenny
Schmidt. These were approved by Anthony Woodward, meeting chair, and seconded by
Francisco Alton, CEO.
The President and CEO read a report of the companys developments over the past year.
This was followed by a report from the System Advisory Committee. The committee was
pleased to report that all new systems were implemented since the previous meeting have
been successfully adopted in all companys branches nationwide. Chair of the committee,
Tina Alvarez, noted that the Chain of Command system has been particularly effective in
improving interdepartmental communications. This has led to a reduction in errors in
data-inputting and a reduction in the number of employees complaining that they have not
been informed of changes.
This report was followed by the Finance Committee report which was also read by Tina
Alvarez. According to the report, profits are up 3% from last year.
Budget changes for the coming fiscal year were explained. Elections for a new Finance
Committee chair were held, with Max Hampstead winning.
31
Finally, CEO Francisco Alton announced plans to move the company headquarters to a
new location in 2007, and the meeting was adjourned.
Thanks for taking a look. Talk to you later.

From: Helen Sorrell
Re:
Date: March 1st
I am sending you all the first draft of the new advertisement for the summer cruises promotion
campaign that we will be running in major newspapers and magazines throughout April and
May. Please check through the copy and give me your feedback, which I will send to the
advertising team responsible for this particular campaign. When you read through the
advertisement, there are several things that I would like you to consider. It would be most helpful
if you could refer to all of these in your feedback comments:
Use of images: How do you think our target clients will respond to these? Will they
appeal to the 20-30 age group that we hope to attract?
Proportion of text to images: Is the advert too text-heavy, or have we achieved a good
balance of words to pictures?
Text content: Is it easy for people to extract the information they need quickly? Is the
vocabulary we have chosen appealing to this age group? Will they identify with the
message, or do we need to use more colloquial expressions and slang? Or have we used
too much slang, and will it seem that we are in fact aiming at a younger teenaged
audience?
Let me have your thoughts by March 4th. Ill arrange a meeting as soon as I have read everyones
feedback. Many thanks

Questions 191 through 195 refer to the following complaint and response.
2009 Bear Circle,
Daviston, KS 23334
May 5th
Dear Sirs,
I recently purchased a new car battery at the Daviston branch of Advance Autoparts. The
mechanics installed this battery for me, and I drove home. Once I arrived home, I read the receipt
which I had been given. I noticed that there seemed to be some additional charges. I was charged
for the following:
1.
2.
3.
4.
1 car battery
Battery installation
Cable corrosion check
Cable cleaning
5.
6.
7.
8.
Reconnection of cables
Disposal of old battery
Mechanics service fee
Tax
I feel that it is rather excessive to charge a separate fee for items 2 and 5.
Connecting the cables is merely part of the installation process. I also feel that it is inappropriate
to have charged an additional mechanics fee-surely I am already paying the mechanic in item 2
for the installation.
Finally, I would have appreciated knowing in advance that I would be charged for disposal of the
old battery. Had I known, I would have liked to have taken it for disposal myself, since the
public garbage disposal site does NOT charge a fee.
Perhaps Advance Autoparts would like to consider giving customers a breakdown of costs before
carrying out repairs. I would probably not have used your services had I known exactly what I
would be charged for.
Yours faithfully,
Ted Varani
Advance Autoparts

Mr. Varani
2009 Bear Circle

Dear Mr. Varani,
36
I am writing in response to your letter of May 5th. I am sorry to hear that you feel our mechanics
overcharged you. In fact, these are standard charges at all branches of Advance Autoparts. I think
that you will also find that other car parts merchants and mechanics have similar charges.
I am sorry not to be able to offer any assistance in this matter, but I trust that you have been
satisfied with the quality of the battery you purchased, and I am confident you will be happy with
the quality of our mechanics work.
Sincerely,
Kevin Heath,
Public Relation Office, Advance Autoparts
191. Why did Mr. Varani write to Advance Autoparts?
(A) He wanted to thank them.
(B) He believed they had charged too much.
(C) He wanted to order a new battery.

192. What does Mr. Varani think Advance Autoparts should give customers?
(A) A list of costs before doing repairs
(B) A free battery
(C) An itemized bill
(D) Free car wash and waxing
193. What would Mr. Varani have liked to have done for himself?
(A) Dispose of the old battery
(B) Install the new battery
(C) Reconnect the cables
(D) Check the cables
194. What will Kevin Heath do in response to Mr. Varanis letter?
(A) Send a refund

Hi Samantha,
This is just a quick email to let
you know that we have found
enough voice actors(162) to
make the recording for the
radio
advertisement.
The
Heartful Acting Agency is
providing us with three
children who will work with
the man and the woman you
had already found(163). They
are charging $50 an hour per
child, so lets try to get it done
as quickly as we can to keep
costs down(164). I have given
the agency the scripts.
See you at the studio.

John,
Here is a copy of the minutes from
the meeting on June 22nd. Take a
look and let me know what you
think before I make more copies to
send to everyone. I lost the notes
which I made at the meeting, so tell
me if you remember things being
the way that I have described
below(184, 185).
Minutes,
The meeting opened with a
reading of the minutes of the last
meeting by secretary Jenny
Schmidt. These were approved by
Anthony Woodward, meeting
chair, and seconded by Francisco
Alton, CEO.
The President and CEO read a
report
of
the
companys
developments over the past year.
This was followed by a report
from the System Advisory
Committee. The committee was
pleased to report that all new
systems were implemented since
the previous meeting have been
successfully adopted in all
companys branches nationwide.
Chair of the committee, Tina
Alvarez(182), noted that the Chain
of Command system has been
particularly effective in improving
interdepartmental
communications. This has led to a
reduction in errors(183) in datainputting and a reduction in the
number of employees complaining
that they have not been informed
of changes.
This report was followed by the
Finance Committee report which
was also read by Tina Alvarez.

Dear Mr. Varani,
I am writing in response to your
letter of May 5th. I am sorry to hear
that you feel our mechanics
overcharged you. In fact, these are
standard charges at all branches of
Advance Autoparts. I think that you
will also find that other car parts
merchants and mechanics have
similar charges.
