Objective
UNIT I

To achieve practical knowledge and soft skills in attaining Human ethics, values,
gender equality and Human rights.

Human Ethics and values - Understanding of oneself and others- Basic instincts, motives and
needs- Social service, Social Justice, Dignity and worth, Harmony in human relationship: Family
and Society, Integrity and Competence, Caring and Sharing, Honesty and Courage, Valuing Time,
Co-operation, Commitment, Sympathy and Empathy, Self-Confidence and Personality- Living in
harmony at various levels.

UNIT II

Gender Equality - Gender Vs Sex -, Concepts, definition, Gender equity, equality, empowerment.
Status of Women in India Social, Economical, Education, Health, Employment, HDI, GDI, GEM.
Contributions of Dr.B.R. Ambethkar, Thanthai Periyar and Phule to Women Empowerment.

UNIT III

Women Issues and Challenges- Female Infanticide, Female feticide, Violence against women,
Domestic violence, Sexual Harassment, Trafficking, Access to education, Marriage. Remedial
Measures Acts related to women: Political Right, Property Rights, Rights to Education,
Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, and Dowry Prohibition Act.

UNIT IV

Human Rights Movement in India The preamble to the Constitution of India, Human Rights
and Duties Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), Civil, Political, Economical, Social
and Cultural Rights, Rights against torture, Discrimination and forced Labour, Rights of
Children.

UNIT V

Good Governance - Democracy, Peoples Participation, Guaranteed Freedoms, Open and


Transparence governance, Combating corruption, Fairness in criminal justice administration,
Government system of Redressal, Judiciary, National Human Rights Commission and other
statutory Commissions, Creation of Human Rights Literacy and Awareness.
