Installing EFASS
Installing EFASS
Download EFASS from the official Website http://www.froom.de. Make sure that you downloaded
the latest version.
1. Close your Simulator and all other running applications.
2. You have downloaded a file that is for example called EFASS_1.0.1234.5678.zip, which is a
ZIP-Archive. Extract the included file to any folder, for example onto your Desktop.
3. Run the installer and follow the instructions. When you come to the Folder-Selection
dialogue, it is recommended to choose a not Windows-Managed folder (not Program Files
or Program Files (x86)).
4. Complete the installation. When you are asked if you want to start EFASS Do it!
Note that some Operating Systems require Administrator privileges to run EFASS correctly. Normally
this should not be the case, but if you experience any problems, run EFASS as administrator. To do
so, rightclick the link and select Run as administrator:
You may also edit the link, to run EFASS always as Administrator. To do so, right click it and select
Properties. Then go to the Compatibility-Tab and tick the checkbox Run as administrator:
Installing EFASS
After EFASS was started, you will see the Main-Window for the first time. You will be prompted to
enter your Login-Credentials. If you do not have an account yet, create one! After logging in, EFASS
loads the NavData-Database which may take a few seconds. When done, the Setup-Dialog will open
automatically.
1. General-Tab
For the beginning, select your Online-Aviation Network. Leave the other checkboxes
untouched.
2. Planning-Tab
Set the default Taxi-Out time here. This is the time that you probably need to taxi from your
parking position to the holding point of the active runway. Leave the other checkboxes
untouched.
3. Simulator-Integration-Tab
This is really important. At the bottom of this tab, you see some buttons. Click the button for
the simulator you are using and follow the onscreen instructions. This will install the UIPCPlugin which is the major connection between EFASS and the Simulator. For some Simulators
you may get prompted to download and install the plugin manually.
When the plugin is installed, tick the checkbox Display Info-Bar in simulator window to
enable the inflight information bar.
4. Map-Tab
Here you can change the look and feel of the map
5. Multi-PC
Skip this tab. If you want to use a Multi-PC-Setup, read on later in this manual.
Updating EFASS
6. EFASS-Account-Tab
Here you see your EFASS-Account. You may change your password here.
7. TELEX-Tab
The TELEX system is a global text communication system. By default, you are automatically
on Worldcom, where you can communicate with any other EFASS-User. Here you can disable
sounds for new Messages.
8. Custom-Tabs
Skip this Tab and read on.
9. Advanced
Skip this Tab and read on.
Now click Save and your EFASS is ready for your first flight.
Updating EFASS
When a new update is available, you will get a notification window after starting EFASS. Here you
can decide if you want to update EFASS automatically, or if you want to download the update
manually. If you choose the manual update, make sure to install the new EFASS-Version into the
existing EFASS-Directory. If you are in a Multi-PC environment, all PCs have to be updated.
Planning a flight
To plan a flight, click New at the upper left corner and you will see the Flightplan Assistant.
1. Select your Aircraft. If your Aircraft is not in the list, you may create an own template. How
this works is described later in this manual.
2. Enter your Flightnumber. If you are an online pilot, make sure that this number exactly
matches the callsign that you use on your online aviation network. A good callsign is for
example BER8024.
3. Enter your Origin-Aerodrome ICAO-Code. If EFASS is successfully connected to your
simulator, this will be automatically detected. By pressing the R-Button, youll get a search
form, where you can find the ICAO-Code by Airport-/City-Name.
4. Do the same for your Destination-Airport.
5. Now select the DOF (Day of flight). If you plan your flight just before you are ready to go,
leave this untouched.
6. Select the STD (Scheduled Time of Departure).
Planning a flight
7. The STA (Scheduled Time of Arrival) will be automatically calculated by EFASS, normally you
do not have to make changes here, except you expect some delay enroute.
8. The same for ETE (Estimated Time Enroute). This value is very important for the fuel
calculation, so make sure that it is correct.
9. During the last steps, you may have noticed, that EFASS automatically generated a route for
you. If you want to use another route, enter it, or use either one of the Route Databases that
you can select via the dropdown Route DBs, or create a manual routing via the Custom
button (A detailed description on how to use the Custom-Route-Creator is available later in
this manual).
10. The DEP-RWY (Departure-Runway) and SID (Standard Instrument Departure) will be
automatically selected by EFASS. The automatic selection is based on the surface winds and
your route. On the right side, you see live information that give you further information
about the runway in use. If (Pred) is displayed, it means that no ATC is online and its up to
you, which departure runway you select. If no (Pred) is displayed, the departure runway
comes directly from the ATCs ATIS information and must be used.
11. The same for the ARR RWY (Arrival runway) and STAR (Standard Arrival Route).
12. Now select the final Flightlevel for your flight. If you select OPT, EFASS will try to detect the
level automatically. MAX will take the maximum allowed altitude for your aircraft.
13. The Alternate-Airports are automatically filled by EFASS.
14. POB (Persons On Board) gives you an overview on how many people are waiting for you at
the gate. This value will be selected by random. You may change it.
15. The same for Cargo.
16. If you want your flight to be tracked online or by your Virtual Airline, check the
FlightRecorder/ACARS Checkboxes.
17. Click Save at the upper left corner and your route will be displayed on the map.
Planning a flight
The Custom-Route-Creator
The custom route creator window lets you easily create IFR-Routes. To do so, create a new flightplan
and click the button Custom right above the route field. A new window will open, displaying a
schematic map with your Origin and Destination airports, Airways and a direct route between (red).
Handmade routings are often better than automatically generated ones, as you can react on airway
limitations, or other environment based circumstances.
At the bottom, you will see your custom routing. If you made a mistake, you can undo your last steps
easily by hitting the Undo-Button at the top of the window.
To create a custom route
1. Click the SID-Waypoint you want to use (Green). Orientate on the red line (Left Mouse
Button)
2. Select the next Waypoint on connected airways . Always orientate on the red line, as this is
the direct connection between your Origin and the destination airport. You may rightclick
each waypoint, to get a preview of the connected airways.
3. When coming close to your Destination-Airport, you see the STAR-Points (Red). Find an
airway that connects to this point. You may also directly click the STAR-Waypoint to get a
DCT from your last waypoint in the list.
4. Once connected to a STAR-Waypoint, you will be queried if you want to use the route. Click
yes to port it to the Flightplan-Window.
10
If you are not sure whats the correct path for your addon, refer to this forum topic, where we
maintain a list: http://froom.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=10
There you will also find detailed instruction on how to load the exported flightplan with your
Addon/Simulator.
In the end it should look like this (with your own paths):
11
In the list you see all available aircrafts. Click one to see its settings on the right side. By default we
provide all aircraft templates in kilogram units. You may convert and edit the values to LBS if you
need.
If you want to modify an aircraft, it is a good way to duplicate the original template before making
any changes. To do so, edit the Aircraft-Label field and for example add some string like My
one!. Thereafter click Save and your duplicated aircraft will appear in the list. Now click it and
make your changes.
If you do not duplicate an Aircraft, before editing it, be aware of that your changes may be
overwritten if you install an EFASS-Update!
Value Reference
Here you see a brief description of the fields. If you create a new aircraft, youll probably find the
values at the FCOM/Manual.
PAX-Capacity
This describes how many passengers are allowed for this aircraft
Cargo-Capacity
This describes how much cargo your aircraft can load
Fuel-Capacity
This describes the capacity sum of all fuel tanks
Empty-Weight
This is the weight of the aircraft without PAX, Cargo and Fuel
12
MTOW
Maximum Take-Off weight
MZFW
Maximum Zero-Fuel weight (Weight including PAX, Cargo but without Fuel)
Taxi Fuel/min
Describes the fuel burn during taxi per minute (average KG/LBS as selected)
Climb Fuel/hour
Describes the fuel flow per hour during climb (average KG/LBS as selected)
Desc Fuel/hour
Describes the fuel flow per hour during descent (average KG/LBS as selected)
Cruis Fuel/hour
Describes the fuel flow per hour during cruise (average KG/LBS as selected)
Static Reserve
This is a static amount of fuel that will be charged on top on each flight (KG/LBS as selected)
Cont Fuel %
Contingency Fuel. A percentage amount of fuel to be charged on top. In Europe usually 5.
Cruise GS
The average ground speed (KT) during cruise. Use this value to tweak the ETE (Estimated
Time Enroute) calculation.
Max Altitude
The maximum altitude restriction for your aircraft in feet.
Avg. Climbrate
Average climbrate of your aircraft (Feet per minute)
Avg. Sinkrate
Average sinkrate of your aircraft (Feet per minute)
Min. Rwy length
The minimum length of the arrival runway for your aircraft.
BIAS %
Fitness of the aircraft. Usually 100. Higher = lower fitness. This influences the fuel
consumption and the ETE.
Static Fuel Factor
This should be unchecked, unless you have no clue on what to fill in the other fuel relevant
fields. So for example you make a testflight from EDDL to EDDS and you burn 2000kg fuel,
you divide the fuel by the distance (173nm) and you get a static factor. This is inaccurate and
should not be used.
Many users have many addons. Feel free to post your aircraft template at our forums, or ask if
someone has already create one.
13
The Map-Tab
The Map-Tab
The central point of EFASS is the map.

Upper-Wind Layer
The Upper-Wind layer displays the upper winds for your route on the map, based on the real-world
global forecast system (GFS). The winds get updated every 3 hours automatically by the server.
Reading the wind map is easy: Compare the arrow with a Dart-Arrow and its feathers. A long
feather stands for 10kts wind. A short feather stands for 5kts. A filled triangle stands for 50kts.
18
The Map-Tab
The magenta colored sections are your SID and STAR. The blue colored section is the main route.
19
The Map-Tab
The movement Speed of the network aircrafts depends on the refresh interval that youve set at
the Settings->Options-Dialog (General Tab).
Now you will see a list of all available procedures. Click one, to display it on the map, like this
transition for LOWW:
20
As you see, each transition waypoint is connected to a label that tells you the waypoint type, the
waypoint name and the profile (if available). Temporarily displayed procedures are always colored
orange.
To hide a procedure, just perform a double click onto the map.
21
By clicking the Print Button on the top, you may print this flightplan. To export the Flightplan as
PDF, it is a good choice to use a PDF-Printer like Bullzip You will find it somewhere on the web.
22
The Weather-Tab
The Weather-Tab
The weather tab gives you real world weather information about your region. You can display
Satellite pictures, Winds-Aloft for different Flightlevels, SigWX-Charts and decoded METAR
information for your origin and destination aerodrome.
23
The Weather-Tab
These images are updated every 6 hours and always display the latest forecast.
24
The NOTAM-Tab
The NOTAM-Tab
A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM or NoTAM) is a notice filed with an aviation authority to alert aircraft
pilots of potential hazards along a flight route or at a location that could affect the safety of the
flight. NOTAMs are unclassified notices or advisories distributed by means of telecommunication that
contain information concerning the establishment, conditions or change in any aeronautical facility,
service, procedure or hazard, the timely knowledge of which is essential to personnel and systems
concerned with flight operations.
NOTAMs will be fetched right after creating the flightplan. During the flight, the NOTAMs do not get
updated. Be aware of that.
25
The PAX-Tab
The PAX-Tab
At the PAX-Tab you see the passenger list for your flight including Name, Age and gender.
Some PAX may be tagged with a remark, if there are any anomalies. Remarks can contain Oversize,
Wheelchair, Medic, Law, Blind, Handicap, Other.
26
The Logbook-Tab
The Logbook-Tab
The Logbook gives you a quick overview of all flights that you created with EFASS.
The flight status depends on the progress that you made in the simulator. You may rightclick every
entry (except of the current active flight) and change the status manually. If you want to clear your
logbook, you may click the little trashcan at the top.
27
The Charts-Tab
The Charts-Tab
The Chart-List is a complete Chart-Management-System, that helps you to find all the charts,
depending on your flightstage, within seconds.
At the beginning, your Chart-List will be empty. To add charts, click the small yellow Folder-Button
above the list to open the EFASS-Charts-Directory. Now copy all charts you have, in PDF-Format, into
that folder. Make sure, that the filename of each chart contains the ICAO-Code of the aerodrome it
belongs to (Example: KJFK_GND.pdf). Do not use subdirectories. When done, EFASS will
automatically update the chart list, depending on your flightstage.
Double click any chart, to display it in the Viewer:
28
The Charts-Tab
If you need to rotate the document, perform a right click and select Rotate to the right as often as
needed.
If you do not own any charts, try a google search for ICAO CHARTS (replace ICAO by your
Aerodrome), or visit the website of your online aviation network.
29
Custom Tabs
Custom Tabs
EFASS allows you to create custom tabs in the form of websites. To add custom tabs, go to the SetupDialog and select Custom-Tabs. Now enter a brief title and the full URL of the website at the
bottom and click Add. Thereafter click Save and the new tab will appear in the main window.
Note: EFASS makes use of your installed Internet-Explorer version. Some new websites behave stupid
when an old IE-Version is used. So if you experience problems with websites that are properly
displayed in your normal browser (I assume you use Firefox or Chrome ), consider updating IE.
Recommended custom tabs are the forum of your online aviation network, Datalink, ChartDatabases like Navigraph Charts-Cloud a.s.o.
