Saints of the Week

Sept. 19: Januarius, bishop & martyr (+305)

Sept 20: Andrew Kim Taegon, priest, Paul
Chong Hasang, and companions, martyrs
(+1846)
Sept 21: Matthew, Apostle & evangelist

Ah, that familiar statement, "You

cannot serve God and mammon,"
visits us again. We meet a wily
steward in this week's Gospel
whose story makes us reflect the ultimate dilemma,
WHOM DO WE SERVE? Mammon isn't just wealth
and possessions, it's also the selfishness of our lives,
only looking to serve ourselves. Throughout our
lives, through the ups and downs, we learn that we
MUST serve God FIRST! We are doing this not only
for joy in this world, but for ETERNAL LIFE. Prudent
decisiveness about our future means that we grow
in our relationship with God, and that relationship is
witnessed by the simple choices of our daily living.
To put it simply, GOD MUST BE AT THE CENTER OF
OUR LIVES! The Saints did it, so ask yourself this
question....do you want that too?
This Fall Season brings with it time to really experience God's masterpiece of colors. Nature's display
is truly God at work. The same is happening inside
each of you. God is at work helping you to find
peace, fulfillment, and blessings. Don't keep this to
yourself----pray the words of St Francis of Assisi,"
Lord make me an instrument of Your peace." Each
day when I arise I ask God to make me stronger, wiser, more compassionate, joyful and eager to be a
part of his beautiful handiwork. Pray for me, as I do
for you.

Sept 23: Pius of Pietrelcina, priest (+1968)

Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!

Franciscan Reflections
" How Blessed are you who do holy things and persevere in them.
The Spirit of the Lord shall rest
upon you and make its dwelling
within you, who are children of
our Heavenly Father whose works
you accomplish."
- St Francis of Assisi

One way to show gratitude for the gifts we receive from God is through service to our parish
community. We are currently in need of adult
Altar Servers to assist our priests at Mass. If you
are interested in becoming an Altar Server or
have any questions please see Donna or
Fr. Anthony after Mass.

Ways to make Mass a habit

(revised from original article by Heidi Busse published in

Our Sunday Visitor 1/14/14 (OSV.com)

While not a perfect comparison, it seems apt to

connect Mass attendance to exercise. Both are good
for your body, mind and spirit (if you do them regularly) and both take discipline and resolve. Of course
Mass offers more than any earthly habit can: the salvation of and real presence of Jesus Christ.
Three ways to help motivate your family to attend
Mass regularly:

1. Make the choice. Physically showing up at the

gym is half the battle. The same is true for Mass.
Getting your family up and out of the house is
the first step to experience the love and salvation
of Jesus at Mass.
2. Remember whats important. Every family
needs an anchor that grounds them in that
which is meaningful and everlasting. Mass is a
time to pray together, listen to Gods Word, experience much-needed silence, and receive the gift
of Holy Communion. Christ is the anchor that
holds us together.
3. Connect. In our digital world, it is easy to literally lose touch with people in our neighborhood and community. At Mass we say: Peace be
with you to everyone around us. We greet each
other before Mass and may share time together
after Mass. We come together in communal
prayer and join with our brothers and sisters to
truly become one Body of Christ.
