Systems types and characteristics


1. MIS

This system is the head of all the other systems in keeping and controlling them.
The major constituent of this system are the employees.
This system helps in making the major decisions for the business.
This system helps the decision makers in making future plans as well.
The MIS has the feature to be used by the intellectual group that includes the high
level and middle level management.

2. DSS

The DSS helps employees in making decisions even for the daily tasks.
The system is not very good at handling large amounts of data and consequences.
The DSS is used at all the business levels and the information it uses is not only
internal but also the external one.
Through the use of DSS, both human capabilities and computer capacities are
maximized to result to one great positive decision.
DSS have technologies that are focused for a single user.
DSS also allows customization of the programs particularly the decision making
capabilities to better suit individual needs.

3. EIS

This system is for the senior level employees.


Heavy data storage capabilities make it ideal to be adopted not only by the big firms
but also by the smaller businesses.
This system is providing proficient assistance to them in making important
decisions.
EIS is complicated as compared to the DSS and MIS.

4. GDSS

GDSS is a subclass or subcategory of DSS.


GDSS has three important components: software, hardware and the people.

Computer based information system built to support and promotes positive group
decision making.
GDSS has a networking structure or technology.

5. ERP

For management, ERP gives a clear insight into the health of the organization, and
they can take better decisions to improve efficiency and productivity.
Software that streamlines internal functions of any department of an organization.
This tool allows for smooth flow of information about various activities such as
accounts, HR, administration and production.

6. SAP

SAP is a company with origins in Germany.


For small or mid-sized organizations.
By employing SAP, a centralized database is created for all the applications that are
currently used in an organization.
the products from SAP are used by major companies such as IBM and Microsoft in
their businesses.

7. PeopleSoft

Enterprise Resource Planning software applications.


PeopleSoft is easy to use and learn, flexible and cheap
PeopleSoft is an ERP software application provided by Oracle/PeopleSoft
Corporation.

8. CRM

CRM is a tool that is customer oriented and has to be managed and used by
marketing and sales department.
CRM allows sales personnel to manage information about all the existing and
prospective customers which they can use to build better relations with tem.
