My Observation Report on Interaction
Name: John Renzo V. Revilla
Year/Course: BSED Math
Name of the School Observed: Bagbaguin National High School
Grade Level: Grade 10
Section: Exodus
Subject Observed: Mathematics
School Address: Bagbaguin, Valenzuela City
Date of Visit: August 30, 2016
Observations:
Student-to-Student Interaction Patterns:
They communicate for the task that is groupings, the student collaborated and
give ideas to his/her groupmates. They followed the instructions, and then, they shared
ideas and sometimes on the other group, the leader designated task to his member.
Sometimes during discussion, when the students did not hear what their teachers said,
they ask on her seatmate. Student-to-Student interaction as I observed in the class of
Mr. Lumogdang is more on normal interaction, the class is on focus on the instruction
of
the
teacher.

Student-to-Teacher Interaction Patterns:

Student-to-Teacher interaction is very colorful in the way that the students give
an answer not so directly, then Mr. Lumogdang try to give follow up questions to the
students, so the students can manipulate their answers until they say the exact word that
is expected by sir Lumogdang. Sometimes, Student-to-Teacher interaction happens
when the student asks some questions to the teacher.

Teacher-to-Student Interaction Patterns:

Art of questioning is happening in the Teacher-to-Student interaction, the
colorful questions can make the classroom a learner centered, inductive method is
usually the methods used by the teacher. Giving instructions in an activity is also a
Teacher-to-Student interaction. Sometimes it also happens when the teacher is joking,
then the students is laughing.

Student-to-Non-Teaching Personnel Interaction Patterns:

As I observed in the school, Student-to-Non-Teaching Personnel interaction

happens in canteen, in administration office, it happens when the student is called by
the administration personnel in the office of important matters, sometimes I saw Mr.
Marlon, one of the non-teaching personnel talks to the students for some important
announcements.

Teacher-to-Teacher Interaction Patterns:

It happens when the teacher talks to another teacher regarding activities of the
school, grades of the students, feedback of the teacher in the classroom behavior and
sometimes is for personal matters. But more importantly, they cooperate to their coteachers for the upcoming activities.

Enriching Activities
Create a scenario where any of the above interactions occur in the school. Make a
script of their dialogue, bearing in mind that this partnership is built on developing a
climate of respect, harmony and cooperation.
My Script

The scenario is the Teacher-to-Student interaction in classroom setting. When

the teacher wants the students to define the circle.
TEACHER: Give me an example of circle inside the room.
STUDENT 1: Clock
TEACHER: How can you compare the circle and the clock?
STUDENT: It has many points!
TEACHER: Correct! Another?
STUDENT: Like the clock I think circle has its own center.
TEACHER: Very Good! Now how can you define circle?
STUDENT: An enclosed polygon that is consist of many points.
TEACHER: And then?
STUDENT: That many points is equidistant to a fixed point called center.
TEACHER: Exactly!

With the Teacher-to-Students interaction, learner center is happened. Using

art of questioning, the student will define and describe the terms needed to learn.

Your Analysis

Why is a classroom a miniature of a greater society?

Because like in a society, there are social interactions between any persons
with different norm, knowledge and skills. In classroom, to achieve the goals and
objectives we need to cooperate to each other in sharing ideas or skills. In the society, we
need the collaboration of many people to achieve our mission continuously focus to our
vision. Sharing skills and ideas are very important in achieving goal I order to improve our
unity.

What are found in the classrooms that are similar to what can be observed in society?

The interaction between the students and teachers and students to students. Like in
society, there is a leader, in class room the facilitator or a leader is a teacher, the leader can
facilitate their scope or jurisdiction. And in order to achieve the mission, the leader will
always a facilitator, while the students or people of society will be the workers of the
mission, because the successful of the mission is on their hand.

Your Map
For this process, go through the following steps:
Step 1: Visit a school and observe how the teacher provides the
opportunity to the learners to interact with one another in doing ones
roles.
Step 2: Record how roles are performed by the teacher and the
learners.
Step 3: Make your own documentation of the dialogue or
conversation based on the observed roles that each one
performs which you feel could have been livelier.
Step 4: Highlight the aspect of the dialogue that
indicates the teacher as a role model in
developing the values in the process of learning.

Grade Level: Grade 10
Section: Daniel
Subject Observed: Mathematics
School Address: Bagbaguin, Valenzuela City
Date of Visit: September 5, 2016
Observations:
The conversation of the students and the teacher is more meaningful, it is also a
challenge for the teacher to caught the attentions of the students, especially after the
recess of the students.
Situation/Dialogue
The situation especially in the discussion that when the teacher asks the students
to give an example of a circle and the students answers ball but the ball is sphere not
a circle, the teacher did not tell anything about the answer of the student, but the teacher
ask the student to remain standing and then he ask again, then the other student answer
a coin so he asks the first student that if a coin and a ball is the same circle, then the
student answers, its not. Then the student realized that the ball is sphere not a circle.
(Describe how the teacher communicates the lesson and how the learners are
responding to the teacher. Take note of the manner the teacher accepts or rejects the
responses of the learners. You may present your observations through direct quotes
from the teachers and learners in the dialogue.)
Personal Reflections on the Dialogue
It is better to not directly reject the answer of the students but rather to ask for
another answer, and let them realized the right answer, as a teacher you just have to
facilitate the answer of the students using art of questioning.

Your Analysis

How important are dialogue and substantive conversation in the classroom in terms of
students learning?

Conversation during the lesson inside the classroom is very important especially for
the students, to improve their social interaction skills and to boost their confidence to share
their ideas and knowledge to the other students. The dialogue of the teacher to students is
very essential so that the result of the evaluation will also the reflection on the teachers on
how the teachers strategized the interaction between them. Students outcome is the result
of the participation of the students and how the teacher will execute the lesson.

What learning benefits could teachers and students draw from intentional classroom
dialogue?

Inquiry based and discovery learning for the students can improve their skills. They
will provide the exact definition or terms on what is the intention of the teachers for the
students to learn. The classroom dialogue can improve the confidence of the students to
collaborate and cooperate to other students. The intentional classroom dialogue also helps
the teacher to make a decision on the right approach or methods in teaching his students.

MY INSIGHTS AND REFLECTIONS

The Learning
Environment

In grade 10
classroom, I
observed that the
room is so tight or
not enough space to
accommodate the
activities, but it is
well ventilated
room because of
the number of
electric fans.
In grade 8
classroom, I
observed that the
room is very tight,
because some of
the unrepaired

the room is well
ventilated because
of the air-condition.

Subject Matter/s
Covered

Graphing

the time.

Plotting points in
Cartesian plane is
taught well done,
for the students
have their own
graphing paper.

Library and/or
Internet
Resources

One book is not

enough for the
resources, because
I think there some
techniques in some
books about
graphing
polynomial
functions.

The teacher used

some books in
teaching plotting
points in Cartesian
plane, and I think it
is enough, because
the students learned
it clearly.

Your Analysis

Why should teachers know about curriculum design?

Curriculum is made for the teachers to have a guide in teaching so that there is
uniformity in teaching in a particular nation. The teacher must know the curriculum design
so that the teacher can have a proper assessment to the students and also the proper
approach and methods to be used in a particular subject matter. And know the intended
learning outcomes from the curriculum you taught.

What do most principles and theories of curriculum development have in common? How is
this commonality expressed or spelled out in the curriculum of the class you have
observed?

The progression development of the students. In the classes I observed, I saw the
progression of every student, the level of difficulties and ability is very particular. In the
curriculum, it is intended to give a progress to the students, and yet it boost the progression
of the students when it comes to skills, knowledge and attitude.

Your Reflections

From your FS experience, keep in touch with our most meaningful learning and
express it through abstract visual representation. Please use appropriate colors to
represent your feelings and significant learning.

Your Analysis

How important is involvement of all stakeholders of the school in the schools program and
activities?

The involvement of the stakeholders in school activities is essential for them to

assessed some part of the achieved curriculum. Because school program or school activities
is some applications of the implemented curriculum, it is important to the stakeholders to
be a part of that program for them to assesses how the implemented curriculum are done.

What specific principle of curriculum development justifies the importance of cooperation

and collaboration among all stakeholders of the school?

The unity among stakeholders and all persons involve in the curriculum, the
cooperation and collaboration among stakeholders in school activities will unite the
relationship among the stakeholders. They should be actively participating in all activities
in school.

Your Analysis

How important is it for teachers and curriculum planners to anchor their curricular plans
to specific theories and principles of curriculum development?

In order to achieve a common goal, the teachers and curriculum planner must anchor
their curricular plans to theory and principle of curriculum development. Teachers and
stakeholder of curriculum must help each other to attain a common goal and for the learners
to be united in a specific mission. They have to plan collaboratively and share their ideas
and knowledge in implementing curriculum.

Aside from the teachers, who else should be involved in the curriculum planning?
Explain our thoughts.

Community leader, because curriculum should depend on the community status,

norms or culture. Next is child development expert so that they can help on what will be
the proper way on approaching different stages of child development, Next is parents so
that they can contribute on what should be the learnings in attitude or behavior is in the
curriculum.

Your Analysis

Why do teachers need to align the objectives, strategies and assessment?

Teachers need to align their objectives, strategies and assessment in order to attain
and achieve the objectives, we all know that objectives are the most important part, the
goal must be presented first so that we can plan on how to implement the strategies or the
lessons. Assessment is the time you will judge if you achieved your objectives or not.

How should teachers align their objectives, strategies, and assessment? Suggest some
strategies.

First, plan objectives, it must be measurable and choose an appropriate strategy and
best method to be use so that they can easily understand the lesson, then implement a proper
assessment that can answer your objectives, consider the ability and level of your target
students. If all this are implemented, then you will be successful.

Your Reflections

What has been your most meaningful experience in this episode? What makes it
meaningful to you? How could such an experience help you become a better teacher?

The most meaningful experience in this episode is choosing the best and appropriate
strategy and method in teaching a particular lesson. Because aside from consideration on
the behavior and dominant intelligence of the students you should align the objectives,
strategy and assessment so that you have a proper lesson that can achieve directly your
objectives. To become a better teacher in the future, I need to put in my mind that the
objectives, strategy and assessment must be align. And I need to engage the students in my
lesson, cooperative strategy also is a better strategy in teaching mathematics especially
those difficult topics.
