Reminders
A reminder to parents of year 7 and 8 students that staff supervise a Cambridge Study Hour from 3:00
to 4:00pm each Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. This is an opportunity for students to consolidate their
learning, complete homework in a quiet space, and perhaps get some extra assistance in areas of difficulty.
Children need to be registered for this class and so, if you have not already done this, and would like your
child to attend, please contact Mrs Donaldson or the school office.
If you opted for quarterly payment of school contributions please forward your contribution to the office
at your earliest convenience.
We are very excited as we prepare for our second Cambridge year. Parents will be invited to a meeting
early next term to reflect, seek your input and share our next steps.
Art Scholarship
Early next term we will be calling for expressions of interest in our 2016 Art Scholarships. This is
an opportunity to present a portfolio of artwork for judging, with the potential to win a school cup
and a small prize. Teachers have been given background material, and so please flick them (or Kevin) an email
if you would like to take a closer look. This same material is also available from the school office.
Home Gardens
Now is a good time to be sowing seeds (if you haven't already begun). Root crops such as carrots and
radishes can be sown directly into the garden now. As they get bigger, you will need thin them out (removing
some, so that the ones left behind grow bigger). The little ones can be used as baby carrots. Spring onions
and lettuces can also be sown directly into your garden.
Other seeds such as tomatoes, pumpkins, squash, melons, zucchini, beans, and corn need more warmth to
start growing so these should be sown in seed raising trays, kept in a warm place and transplanted out into
the garden around labour weekend, when the weather is warmer. If you put these out too early, when the
nights are still cold, they won't grow as well. If you haven't started sowing these types of seeds, it would be
a good idea to do this now, so that the seedlings are big enough to put into your garden at the end of
October. Don't forget to label your seeds.
If you are going away for the holidays, make sure you have someone to look after your seedlings, or place
them in a tray with a little bit of water.
Remember to use the holidays to do some work on your booklet. Next term in the first week, we will look at
transplanting seedlings safely and best places to plant your seedlings.

School Fundraising Kings Seeds
Kings Seeds have a great reputation of a high seed germination rate & healthy plants.
The school will get a commission from all seeds sold. An order form went home last
week. Order deadline has been extended to Monday morning 19th September.
Simply select the seeds you want to grow, complete your name & contact details, and
return the order form with your payment to the school office by Monday 19 September
2016. Your seed order will be delivered in time to plant during the holidays. Thanks in
advance for supporting the school.
Calf Club Day Thursday 20 October 2016
Mrs Dorahy has collected names of children bringing animals to calf club. If your
child was absent today & will be bringing an animal please let the office know. The
animal must be born after 1st July 2016. Calves are judged on rearing and leading.
Lambs are judged on rearing, leading & calling. Goats are judged on rearing, leading
& calling.
You can also bring a pet which can include rabbits, guinea pigs, fish, chicken etc. Note that NO DOGS or
PUPPIES are permitted and the animal will need to be in a cage for the duration of the day. Booklets will be sent home
early next week if your child has indicated they will bring a pet.
As advised, the board will ensure sufficient places for out of zone siblings in 2017,
provided application is made for these students using an Out of Zone Application Form
available from our school office. This form will need to be returned to us by the closing
date of 12 October. Applications received after this date (even for out of zone
siblings) will likely not be accepted for 2017.
We have limited places in our Year 7 & 8 Cambridge Lower Secondary programme for out
of zone students who do not have siblings currently in the school.
If you have any questions about this process please contact either Helen or Kevin.
Finally
Thank you for your support this term, and to teachers and students for making this such a great place to
come each day. Be sure to grab some quality time with the children over the holidays and travel safely if
going away. Plenty of exciting stuff to follow next term. No newsletter next week.
And finally for real this time
Research tells us that when learning is integrated into an authentic and shared experience, its value is
multiplied. Authentic learning provides opportunities to apply learning in ways which impress upon minds
more deeply. With this in mind, please find below some student reflections on our forthcoming school
production
Lucas I loved paining the backdrop. I learnt how to shade and how to use a paint brush properly. I also
made new friends because we chatted while we worked.
Conal I really enjoyed acting in different roles. We joked around and tried to really be our characters. I
also learnt a lot about history.
Jaimee To start with I was scared of dancing in front of people but now it is easy, and lots of fun. As
well as being fun I have learnt a lot.
Nathan I learnt how to operate the sound board. This can be stressful. I have learnt a lot about
productions and that things dont always work, and I learnt that I am reliable.
Lilli I learnt a lot about history and how to memorise lines. I got to know people and learn about their
personalities and talents.
Lachie I really liked production. Before this I didnt know many songs and I couldnt sing well and now I
can because I have had practice. It was really fun because we learnt lots about history.
