WOODWIND INSTRUMENTS
Flutes
Flutes produce sound by directing a focused stream of air across the edge of a hole in a
cylindrical tube.
The flute family can be divided into two sub-families: Open Flutes
Closed Flutes
To produce a sound with open flutes, the player is required to blow a stream of air across a
sharp edge that then splits the airstream.
To produce a sound with a closed flute, the player is required to blow air into a duct. Thus
duct acts as a channel bringing the air to a sharp edge.
Oboe
The oboe is a family of double reed woodwind musical instruments. The most commonly
used type is the standard oboe. It plays in the treble or soprano range. It is made from a wooden
tube roughly 65cm (25 inches) long with metal keys, a conical bore and flared bell.
Sound is produced by blowing into the reed and vibrating a column of air. The distinctive
oboe tune is versatile and has been described as bright.
When the term oboe is used alone, it is generally taken to mean the standard treble
instruments.
PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS
Concert drum

Tambourine
The tambourine is a musical instrument in the percussion family consisting of a frame,
often of wood or plastic, with parts of small metal jingles called zils.
Classically, the term tambourine denotes an instrument with a drumhead, though some
variants may not have a head at all.
Tambourines are often used with regular percussion sets. They can be mounted but
position is largely down to preference.
Trumpet
A trumpet is a musical instrument. It is the highest register in the brass family.
Trumpets are among the oldest musical instruments dating back to at least 1500 BC. They
are played by blowing air through closed lips producing a bussing sound that starts a standing
wave vibration in the air column inside the instrument.
Horn
The horn, also known as the Corno and French Horn, is a brass instrument made of
more than 20 feet of tubing wrapped into a coil with a flared bell.
A musician who plays the horn is called a horn player (or less frequently, a hornist). In
informal use, "horn" may also refer to nearly any wind instrument with a flared exit for the
sound.
STRING INSTRUMENTS
String instruments are musical instruments that produce sound from vibrating strings.
In most string instruments the vibrations are transmitted to the body of the instrument,
which also vibrates, along with the air inside it.
Violin
The violin family of musical instruments was developed in Italy in the 16th century. At the
time the name of this family was Violas de Braccio which was used to distinguish them from
the Viol Family [Violas da Gamba].
The standard modern violin family consists of the violin, viola, cello and double bass.
