levelcostumedcriminals.OnecaseresultedinAshley'sfatherbeingkilled
(Hunterhadthoughtthecriminaltheywereafterwasincapableoffacinghis
adultlife,andthuswouldnotusean'adult'weaponsuchasagun).Ashley
lefthimshortlythereafter,andtheF.B.I.terminatedhisemployment.Hunter
wasalsoleftwithadamagedkneeduetothecase,requiringacanefor
walkingandbeingunabletoeverrunagain.

AfterarrivinginKeystoneCity,hegotajobasaprofiler,workingwiththepoliceintheirDepartmentof
MetahumanHostilities.HisworkputhiminconstantcontactwiththeFlash,WallyWest,andthetwo
becamegoodfriends.Hisinsightwascriticalinsolvinganumberofcases,buthealwaysresentedbeing
stuckbehindadesk.

TransformationintoZoom
ZolomonwasseverelyinjuredinanattackbyGorillaGroddinIronHeights,whenGroddstagedamass
prisonbreak,andwasleftparalyzedfromthewaistdown.HeaskedWallyWesttousethetimetraveling
cosmictreadmillintheFlashMuseumtopreventthisfromoccurring,butWestrefused,sayingthathe
couldnotriskdamagingthetimestream.Zolomon,feelingthatWallyshouldbepreparedtodisregardsuch
fearsforthesakeoftheirfriendship,thenbrokeintothemuseumandattemptedtousethetreadmill
himself.Theresultingexplosiondestroyedthemuseum,gaveZolomontheabilitytousehislegsagain,and
shiftedhisconnectiontotimedescribedbyJayGarrickashimbeing'derailed'fromthetimelinebythe
explosionthusallowingZolomontoalterthespeedatwhichhecouldmoveintime,givinghimtheeffect
ofsuperspeed.
ZolomondecidedthatWesthadrefusedtohelpbecause,unlikethepreviousFlash,BarryAllen,Westhad
neversufferedpersonaltragedy,andthusdidnotunderstandhowterribleitcouldbe.Zolomondecidedthat
ifhebecamethenewZoomandcausedagreattragedyinWally'slife,thiswouldhelptheFlashbecomea
betterhero.Usingthisphilosophyas'justification',heattackedtheFlashandhisallies,creatinga
shockwavebysnappinghisfingersthatcausedWest'swifeLindatomiscarrytheirunborntwins.After
borrowingspeedfromtheotherspeedsterstoeventheplayingfield,brieflyallowinghimtomatchZoom's
nearimpossiblespeed,FlashsucceededindefeatingZoom,andpreventedhisformerfriendfromkillinghis
wife.ThankstoWallyusingtheslight'rips'intimethatwerebeingcreatedbytheuseofZoom'spowers,
Zolomonwasforcedintoatemporalanomalybeingshovedintotheriftessentiallytieda'knot'inhis
timelineandendedupinacomatosestate,continuallywatchingthedeathofhisfatherinlaw.
Zolomon'sexwife,AshleyZolomon,replacedhimasprofilerandspentalotoftimeattemptingto
communicatewithhim.Duetoacaraccident,Ashleywashospitalizedforsometime.Itisaroundthis
periodthatZoomawokefromhiscoma,outofconcernforAshley.Hecautiouslychosetoremaininhis
cell.

ZoomisdrivenoutofhisselfimposedimprisonmentbyCheetah(a.k.a.Dr.
BarbaraMinerva)inanattempttobothharnesssuperspeedandinducthim
intothegrowingSecretSocietyofSuperVillains.Thetwoshareaminor
romance,butnothingserioushappens,asZoomstillconsidershimself
marriedtoAshley.
Zoomlaterinfiltratesthealreadygrowing"RogueWar"betweenCaptain
Cold'sRogues,theTrickster'sreformedRogues,andtheTop'sbrainwashed
Rogues.QuicklyspiritinghisestrangedwifeAshleyoutofdangertothe
homeofLindaPark,[2]ZoomreturnstothebattlefronttodispatchCaptain
Cold,claimingthatthe"ManWhoMasteredAbsoluteZero"iswastingthe
Flash'stimewithhislongstanding,selfaggrandizingmethodsofvillainy.[2]

ZoomcankillKidFlash,EobardThawnehimselfarrivesonacosmic
treadmill,withJayGarrickchainedtothefrontend,[2]Zoomhavingearlier
capturedJayandforcedhimtotakehimbacktothedayofProfessorZoom'sdeathtorecruithisassistance.
AbattleensuesbetweenthetwoFlashesandKidFlashagainstthetwoZooms(duringwhichKidFlash
escapesZoombyvibratingtobecomeintangible,theonlyspeedsterpowerZoomcannotduplicate).Inthe
end,thetwoZoomsaccomplishwhattheyintended,grabbingWestandjumpingontothetreadmill.Zoom
thenforcesTheFlashtowatchtheirfirstfight,inwhichLindaisseverelyinjuredandmiscarries.Zoom
tellsProfessorZoomtoreplaytheexperience,ashefeelsthatWestshouldbemadetofocusonthefeelings
ofsorrowandlossfromthisexperience.Asthescenestartstorewind,West'suncleandmentorBarryAllen
appears,ridinghisowncosmictreadmillaftersearchingforProfessorZoom.
BarryremovesWallyfromimmediatedanger,tellingWallythathewasheretoreturnThawnetohisproper
placeintime,andthat,nomatterhowbaditseems,Westcanwinifhe"justpusheshimselfabit."Heand
Thawnethendisappearthroughtime.Zoom,enraged,beginstorunaroundtheworld,buildingupspeed
withtheintentionofkillingLindabycollidingwithher.Wallyrushestocatchup,thoughheisjustastepor
twobehind.Atthelastminute,herealizeswhatBarry'sadvicemeansandputsonafinalburstofspeed,
pushinghimself,andhittingZoomintheback.Zoomfallsforwardandiscaughtinthesonicboomthathis
pastselfcreatedtokillLinda'sbabies,causinghimtotakethebruntoftheforce.Thisactioncreatesa
"fissureintime"thatpreventsLinda'soriginalmiscarriageandrestoresherpregnancyjustintimeforherto
givebirthinthepresent.Zoomrunsforthetreadmill,butWallyforcesthembacktotheirmutualpresent.
Alongtheway,theyviewscenesofZoom'slife.ZoomrealizeshismistreatmentofWallyandbriefly
apologizesbeforeslippingintothetimestream.Heislaterseenasaghostlikefigureapologizingtohis
wife.
ZoomreturnsinInfiniteCrisisastheSociety'schiefspeedster,claimingthattheiradversarieswouldallbe
strongerheroesiftheysurvive.HeispartoftheSocietystrikeforceresponsibleformassacringthe
FreedomFighters.ZoomhimselfscarsDamagebypummelinghimwithpunchesatsuperspeed.[3]

ZoomlaterappearsatthesackingofRome,beingapproachedbyBartAllen'sgrandmother,tohelpher
protectBartfromagreattragedythatthevillainInertiawassettingup.[4]ItisunknownwhetherZoom
traveledtothistimeperiodhimself,orifhebecamestrandedthereafterhislastencounterwithWallyWest.
HewasalsopursuedbytheJusticeLeagueinanattempttolocateSinestroafterBatmanandHalJordan
learnoftheexistenceoftheSinestroCorps.[5]
ZoomispursuedbytheJusticeSocietyofAmericaintoAtlanta.Damageisbannedfromthecity,butenters
anywayseekingrevenge.Duringascuffle,heendsuptakingZoomhostageuntilbeingtalkeddownby
LibertyBelle.DisappointedthatDamageisnot"improving",hethrowsasharppipetokillhim.Liberty
Belleuseshersuperspeedtocatchitandtossitback,knockingZoomunconscious.[6]

Powerless
InFinalCrisis:Rogues'Revenge,hefreesInertiafromhisparalysis,inflictedpreviouslybyWallyWest,
hopingtomakehimhisapprenticeasanewKidFlash,teachinghowto"improve"hisownlifeandtheones
ofothersbyinflictinggreattragedies.[7]Inertialearnsthelessontoowell,and,claiminghimselftobe"Kid
Zoom",thenewmasteroftragedies,betraystheFlash'sRoguesandZoom.[8]Claimingthathejustwanted
tomaketheheroessufferwhereZoomactuallywantedthemtoworkthroughthedamageheinflicted,
InertiaunravelledZoom'stimelinetoreturnhimtothecrippled,brokenbodyofHunterZolomon,stripping
himofhispowers.[9]
InFlash:Rebirth,whentheresurrectedProfessorZoomisimprisonedinIronHeights,Zolomonspeaksto
him,sayingtheycanhelpeachotherbebetter.[10]

Powersandabilities
Zoomcanaltertimerelativetohimself,asopposedtousingtheSpeedForcelikemostoftheDCUniverse
speedstersdo.Hecanapparentlyusethisabilitytomoveat"speeds"rivalingthoseofevenWallyWest,and
usually"faster"thanthespeedsthatevenWallycanmusterinmostcases.Ratherthanactuallytimetravel,
Zoomcontrolsthespeedatwhichtimeflowsaroundhim,allowinghimtogofasterorslowerintimethan
everyonearoundhim.Hedoesnotactuallymoveatsuperspeedrather,hegreatlyslowsdowntimerelative
tohimself,makinghimselfappearso"fast"tothosearoundhimthatevenmostoftheFlasheslooktohim
tobemovinginslowmotion.
ThetemporalnatureofhisspeedallowshimtoavoidtheusualproblemsencounteredbyotherFlashtype
speedsterse.g.,heatfromairfriction,orseeingandhearingatheightenedspeedswhoseautomaticand
unconscioususeoftheSpeedForceovercomesthoseproblems.Asheismovingatanormalvelocityand
therestoftheworldis"slow",thesehindrancessimplydonotaffecthim.Thisaspectalsomeansthatheis
unabletobecomeintangiblelikeotherspeedsterscanbyvibratingtheirmoleculesatcertainfrequencies.
However,heisabletoquantumtunnelthroughobjectsbymakingthespeedwhichisneededtoquantum
tunnelslower,andcanthusgetthroughtheobject.

"superspeed"tootherbeings,endowingCheetahaspeedrivalingWonderWoman's,andrestoringInertia's
speed,freeinghimfromhisSpeedForceinducedparalysistoturnhimintohisapprentice.Thisabilityis
relatedtohismanipulationofthetimestream,ashecanallowotherstocontroltheirrelativetimethrough
himself,andhecanshutdownthisconnectionatwill.[11]
Hecanalsocreateshockwavesacrossspaceandtimesimplybysnappinghisfingers.

adult,Zolomonbecameanotoriousserialkillerdueto
thetragediesheexperienced.Hewasultimatelycapturedandsenttoanasylum,wherehewassubjectedto
extremeelectroshocktherapy.Whentheparticleacceleratorofhisworldexploded,hebecamea
metahumanwithsuperspeed,attributedtoWellschannellingtheenergyoftheexplosionundergroundand
causingittobefocusedintoZolomonduringanelectroshocktherapytreatment.Nowknownasthe
supervillainZoom,HunteralsomasqueradedastheheroicJayGarrick(theFlashofEarth2)togivethe
Earth2citizensfalsehopewhileterrorizingthemasZoom.Toincreasehisspeed,Zolomonbegantaking
theVelocitydrug.Overtime,however,hiscontinuoususagecausedhiscellstorapidlydegenerate.This
forcedhimtoresorttoabsorbingSpeedForceenergyfromotherspeedsterstokeephimselfalive.Aside
effectoftheVelocitywasthathislightningbecamebluecolored,becominganothersymptomofhis
condition.
