It is a well-known fact that Jesus is the Master Teacher.
Many of the methods of Jesus
teaching are used in the classroom today. One of Jesuss most popular methods of teaching was through illustration. Illustration, as defined by Merriam-Webster, an example or instance that makes something clear. An illustration in the classroom is the educators way of making the lesson relatable and personal to their students. When Jesus taught, whether it was to crowds of people, his disciples, or the priest in the church, His illustrations were what made the lesson he was trying to teach more personal. Things taught in the classroom originated from Jesus use of metaphors, similes, and analogies. In Matthew 23:27, Jesus was having one of his many class sessions with the Pharisees. He told the Pharisees they were like whitewashed tombs, which was a figure of speech but gave a mental picture (simile) of the lesson or point he was trying to get across. Jesus used these exaggerated examples because he wanted His pupils to not only hear the words he preached but to understand and relate to it as well. He spoke to them with passion to ensure his words evoked emotions whether it was negative or positive, but it meant His words hadnt fallen on deaf ears. Ellen White believes that educators should use illustration as often as possible. She says the educator should always ensure that their pupils are learning and understanding. It is easy to present information to a classroom but without the proper illustrations and enthusiasm it takes students have the information without a true understanding. Therefore, lacking knowledge in the necessary areas. As an educator if you havent taken the time to make sure each student has an understanding of the information being taught then you have failed.
