CourseDescription:
BiologyIIcovershumananatomyandphysiology.Coursecontentincludesanatomicalterminology,
cellularprocesses,bodytissuesandthencoversbodysystems.Specificsystemsincludeskeletal,
muscular,nervous,sensory,cardiovascular,lymphatic,andreproductive.Studentswillalsoengage
withsomeoftheconceptsinclassdiscussionsandlabrelatedactivities,includingafetalpigdissection
asaculminationoftheirlearning.

ClassroomExpectations:Studentsareexpectedtoabidebythestudenthandbook,bringallmaterials
toclasseverydayaswellasupholdthefollowingclassroomrules:

Takeresponsibilityforyouractionsandyourlearning.
Notfollowingclassroomruleswillresultinoneormoreofthefollowingconsequences(depending
upontheseverityand/orfrequencyoftheaction):verbalwarning,afterschoolclassroomdetention,
lossoflabactivity,parentcontact,referral,parentteacherconference,and/oravisittothedeans
office.Thestudentsactionsarethestudentsresponsibility.
LaboratoryRules:Laboratoryrulesandsafetyprocedureswillbetaughtthefirstfewweeksof
school,especiallyregardingworkwithchemicals,microscopes,dissectingtools,andpreserved
animals.Astudentwhofailstofollowlaboratoryrulesandsafetyprocedureswillberemovedfrom
thelab,receiveapointsdeductionontheassignment,anddependingupontheinfraction,besenttothe
deansoffice.Mrs.Moorereservestherighttoremoveanystudentsfromalabactivityiftheyhave
demonstrateduncooperativebehaviororsafetyviolations.

Tests:Studentsareencouragedtoprepareforbiologytestsandquizzesbystudyingeachnight.Dates
oftestswillbegiveninadvanceandpostedonOnCampus.Studentsneedingadditionalhelp
understandingthematerialwillneedtoattendMrs.MoorestutorialsessionafterschoolonTuesdays.
Mrs.Mooremayconductareviewsessionthedaypriortothetesthowever,studentsabsentforthe
reviewsessionwillstillbeexpectedtotakethetestonthegivenday.Ifstudentsareabsentonthedate
ofatest,theywillberequiredtomakeupthetestinthepresenceoftheteacherduringoneofthe
makeuptimeswithinoneweekofthedateofthetestononeofthemakeupdaysandtimeslisted
below:

Failuretomakeupthetestinthegiventimeframewillresultinatestgradededuction.
Studentswith
extendedabsences(longerthanoneweek)willneedtospeaktotheteachertoscheduleatimetomake
upthetest.Unexcusedabsencesontestdateswillresultinazerowithnoopportunityofmakingup
thetest.Excusedabsencespriortothetestdatewillnotexcuseastudentfromtakingthetestonthe
previouslyscheduledtestdatesincealldatesareknowninadvance.
Quizzes:Somequizzesmaybeannouncedandsomewillnot.Sincepopquizzesarenot
announced,studentsshouldbesuretostudynightlyandcompleteallassignedreadingandhomework
topreparefortheseassessments.Studentsarerequiredtomakeupallmissedquizzesononeofthe
makeupdaysandtimeslistedabove(seeTests)uptooneweekfollowingtheoriginalquizdate.
Failuretomakeupthequizinoneweekwillresultinagradeofzerofortheassessment.
Labs:Labswillbecompletedprimarilyduringclass.LabsmustbeturnedinwhenspecifiedbyMrs.
Moore.Labsareimpossibletorepeattherefore,ifastudentisabsentonadaywhenalabisdone,the
studentmustcompleteaonepagecurrenteventsummaryassignment.(Seethelinkfordetailsonthe
assignment.)Thestudentwillhaveoneweekfromthedateofthelabtosubmitthereport.Reports
submittedafteroneweekwillnotbeacceptedandthestudentwillreceiveazeroforthatlabgrade.
Plagiarizedmakeupreportswillnotreceivecredit.
ClassworkandHomework:Studentswillbeexpectedtocompleteallclassworkasassignedduring
class.Theteachermayoccasionallygiveclassworkthatmaybecomethatnightshomework.All
homeworkisdueatthebeginningofthestudentsclassperiodonthepreviouslygivenduedate.Any
homeworkreceivedlaterintheperiod,duringlunch,orendoftheschooldayuptothefollowingday
(seetheLateWorkPolicybelow)willbetreatedaslateworkandwillbedockedpoints.Electronic
assignmentssubmittedthroughGoogleClassroomwillbetreatedinthesamemanner.These
assignmentsaretimestampedandmustbesubmittedbythestatedduedateorwillbesubjecttolate
workpointdeductions.Theseassignmentswillreceiveazerogradeifsubmitted48hourspastthedue
date.
**LATEWORKPOLICY**:Lateworkwillonlybeacceptedonedayaftertheduedateofthe
assignmentby3:30pm.Afterthat,theassignmentwillreceiveascoreofzero.Lateworkwillhave
pointsdeductedthehighestgradecompletedlateworkcanreceivewillbeaC.Thispolicyappliesto
allassignments.Assignmentssubmittedelectronically(email,GoogleForms,etc.)willalsobe
subjectedtothislateworkpolicysincetheyaretimestamped.Electronicsubmissionswillonlybe
consideredontimeuntil11:59pmontheduedate.Electronicsubmissionssubmittedonthefollowing
daywillbeconsideredlateandwillbedockedpoints.Electronicsubmissionssenttwodaysafterthe
duedatewillnotreceivecredit.
ElectronicIssues:StudentsareexpectedtobringtheirChromebook,chargedandready,toclass
everyday.Somebutnotallassignmentswillbeelectronic.Studentsaregiventwodaystocomplete
anelectronicassignment.Studentsareprovidedthisextradaytoallowfortheunexpectedtechnical
issuesthatmayarisesuddenly(printerissues,brokencomputer,internetoutages,etc.).Theextraday
allowsstudentstoresolvetheissueatschoolthefollowingday(printtheassignmentfromthe
computerlab,usethemediacentercomputerstocompletetheassignment,etc.).Therefore,noexcuses
willbegrantedshouldastudentencountertechnicalissuesathomewhencompletingwork.
Participation:Thesearetheeasiestpoints!Studentsareexpectedtoarriveontime,bepreparedfor
class,completeandsubmittheirownwork,answerandaskquestionsduringclass,andfollowallrules
inthelab.Studentswillloseparticipationpointsforthefollowingthings:
Beingtardytoclass
Nothavingrequiredmaterials(whichincludestextbook,writingutensils,andbinderwith
classwork)
Notfollowingdirectionsornotparticipatinginclassorinlab
Disruptive,talkativeorofftaskbehavior(talkingwhenstudentsshouldnotbe,sleeping,
workingonworkfromanotherclass)
Disrespectfulbehaviortowardsaclassmateortheteacher
Unexcusedabsencesfromclass
Playingcomputergamesorcompletingworkfromanotherclass(withoutpriorpermission)
TheChromebooksareavaluablelearningtool.Studentsareexpectedtoonlyworkonbiology
materials(takingnotes,completingassignments,etc.)duringtheclassperiodunlessgivenpermission
otherwise.ChromebookgamesareNOTpermittedduringanypointoftheclassperiod,evenif
studentshavefinishedtheirwork.Studentscaughtplayinggameswillautomaticallyserveafterschool
detentionwithMrs.Moore.
Tardies:Atardyisgiventoastudentwhenhe/sheisnotinsidetheclassroomwhenthebellfinishes
ringing.Enteringtheclassroomafterthebellwillresultinatardyandadeductioninparticipation
points.Studentswhoreceivesixtardiesinanineweekperiod(aquarter)willservedetentionandwill
receiveareferral.Aftertheninthtardy,theviceprincipalwillbenotified.
AbsencesandMakeUpWork
Studentswhoareabsent,regardlessofthereason,willneedtomakeupalltheassignedworkthatwas
missed.Studentscaneasilyseewhatworkwasmissedbyaccessingthelessonplansandviewingthe
classworkandhomeworkforthemissedday(s).Theabsentstudentwillreceivethesamenumberof
daystomakeupassignmentsasdayshe/shewasabsent.Forexample,astudentwhoisabsentforone
daywillbegivenonedaytomakeuptheclassworkorhomework.Astudentwhoisabsentforthree
dayswillbegiventhreedaystomakeupanymissedworkandexpectedtoturnitinonthefourthday.
Ifthestudentmissedalab,he/shewillhaveoneweektowriteamakeupcurrenteventsummary(see
theparagraphonLabs).Theabovedoesnotapplytomajorpapers,projects,ortestswherethe
deadline/duedatehasbeengiveninadvance.Ifastudentdoesnotunderstandthemissingwork,
he/shemustattendoneofthetutoringsessionswithMrs.Mooretoreceivehelpontheassignments.If
studentsknowtheywillbeabsent,theyshouldplanaheadanddiscussthiswithMrs.Mooreaheadof
time.Missedtestandquizzesneedtobemadeupwithinoneweekofthetest/quizdate(seetheTests
andQuizzessectionsabove)ononeofthethreemakeuptimes.Unexcusedabsenceswillresultin
zerosonallassignmentswithouttheopportunitytomakethemup.Allpoliciespreviouslydescribed
coincidewiththeStudentHandbook.
PlagiarismandCheating
Studentsareexpectedtoturninonlytheirownwork.Ifstudentsdonotunderstandaconceptor
direction,theymustfindthetimetoasktheteacherforhelpbeforeorafterschoolorattendatutoring
session.Studentswhocopyanothersworkreceiveazerofortheassignment.Astudentwhoallowed
otherstocopytheirworkwillalsoreceiveazero.BothwillbereferredtoHonorsCouncil.Students
caughtcopyinganotherstestwillreceiveazeroforthetestandwillbereferredtotheHonorsCouncil.
Plagiarism(copyingabook,article,orwebsite)willalsoresultinazerogradeandreferraltoHonors
Council.Allsubmittedworkmustbewritteninthestudentsownwords.
Studentsareresponsibleforbeingfamiliarwiththesepoliciesandreferencingthisdocumentonthe
websiteifthereisuncertainty.Thisdocumentmayneedtobeupdatedtoreflectchangesinpolicies,
butallstudentsandparentswillbenotifiedviaemailandonthewebsiteif/whenthisoccurs.Ifthere
