Hardware Installation

1. Hardware Installation
1.1. Unpacking
Open the package and carefully unpack the switch
The box should contain following items*:
One MEN-4210 8-port 10/100, 1-Gigabit SFP and 1-100FX/Gigabit SFP, L2
Managed switch
One Console Cable DB9 (RS232)
One AC power cord
One user manual cd
Accessories pack Rack-mount rubber foot, bracket, screw etc.
* Content can be adjusted based on customer demand

1.2. Product Layout


Front View
The front panel of the MEN-4210 consists of 8-10/100Base-TX ports, 1-Gigabit SFP
slot, 1-100/1000 Multi-rate slot, AC power socket, LEDs, Reset button and Console
port.

The rear view panel of the MEN-4210 consists of Battery connector and 15V DC jack.

1.3. Connecting AC/DC/Battery Power


The MEN-4210 supports 240V AC, 15V DC and 12V battery power supplies

Connect battery to switch and check polarity


Connect Positive (+) to Positive (+) and Negative (-) to Negative (-)

1.4. Installing SFP modules and Fiber cables


Steps to install SFP modules:

Slide the selected SFP module into the selected SFP slot (Make sure SFP
module is aligned correctly with the SFP slot)

Insert and slide the module into the SFP slot until it clicks into place

Steps to install Fiber cables:

Remove any rubber plugs that may be present in SFP modules mouth

Align the Fiber cables connector with SFP modules mouth and insert the
connector

1.5. LEDs
The LEDs on the MEN-4210 are as below:

The LEDs on the MEN-4210 indicate the following:

2. Software Configuration
2.1. Switch Access
2.1.1. Web-based management interface
MEN-4210 Default settings:

IP address: 192. 168. 0. 254


Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Web Login: admin
Password: admin

Steps to access the switch through web-based management interface:


Set the IP address of your computer to 192.168.0.254
Connect your computer to MEN-4210
Open your computers web browser
Type http://192.168.0.254 in the address box to access the web
A login screen is displayed
Login with default username and password

A web manager homepage appears as shown in the figure below:

2.1.2. Console
Steps to access the switch through console port:

Insert RJ-45 jack of console cable in Console port of the MEN-4210

Connect DB-9 pin to your computer serial port

Console login through putty:
After connecting console cable to MEN-4210 console port and your computers serial
port,
Go to Device manager
Scroll to Ports USB Serial Port (COM#) Make a note of COM#
Run Putty
Type the COM# in serial line (e.g. COM5 as shown in the figure)
Set the speed to 38400
Click Open
A session is opened and displays the CLI as shown in the figure below to configure the
desired settings

2.2. Configuration Backup/Restore


Steps to backup and restore configuration file:
Run TFTP server
Set TFTP server IP and Gateway
(E.g. IP: 192.168.0.200 and Gateway: 255.255.255.0)
Specify directory path as shown in figure below

Use the following command to backup (upload) configuration file


(e.g. 4210config.bin)

Use the following command to restore (download) configuration file

2.3. Reset to Default Configuration

Use the following command to reset the switch to its factory default
configuration settings

2.4. Firmware Upgrade


Steps to upgrade the firmware of the switch:
Place firmware (FW) in root directory of the TFTP server
Run TFTP server
Use the following command to upgrade the firmware of the switch
