II. COURSE DESCRIPTION
TH 102 is an intermediate course in theology. It deals specifically with the nature, institution, administration,
reception and celebration of the Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church namely: Baptism, Confirmation,
Holy Eucharist, Penance, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders and Matrimony. At the end of the course,
students are expected to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the theology of the Sacraments and help
Catholic students apply the principles of Sacramental theology to daily life.
III. COURSE OUTCOMES
1. Explain the nature and institution of the Seven Sacraments in general and of each Sacrament in
particular
2. Identify the Scriptural passages that relate to the institution of each of the seven sacraments
3. Discuss the matter and form of each of the seven sacraments
4. Explain the effects of each sacrament and their necessity for salvation
5. State the conditions required on the part of the minister for the valid administration/celebration of each
sacrament
6. State the conditions required on the part of the subject for the valid reception of each sacrament
7. Describe the liturgical rites for the celebration of each sacrament

V. COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Percentage distribution of your grades is as follows: 40% finals, 30% long test, 20% quiz and 10%
recitation.
2. Keep track of your grades. Score/Grade appeals/corrections/clarifications should be done via email

3. The breakdown of grades is posted in the class edmodo account.
VI. CLASS POLICIES (apart from but based on student handbook)
IMPORTANT: After you receive your copy of the course outline it is assumed that you have read it and are
responsible for yourself as regards the requirements of this course. Acceptance of this syllabus means you
agree and will abide by the following course policies:
1) In settling academic matters, no proxy (friend, classmate, or relative) is allowed. The student and the
teacher are the only legitimate parties concerned.
2) Attendance or effort is not basis for grade. Only the stipulated course requirements such as, though
not limited to, those listed in the syllabus will be the basis for the final grade. No extra requirements or
removal exams will be given.
3) Absence due to official university function is excused. Otherwise, absence is unexcused and shall result
to a zero grade for whatever missed course requirement or activity on the day. There is no make up for
daily quizzes.
4) A student is considered absent when he/she arrives 15 minutes after the start of class or stepping out
of class for more than 15 minutes. Automatic failure due to absences (FDA) will be incurred for 20%
absences of the total meetings.
5) The Dress Code should be strictly observed. Students who fail to abide by this policy should not enter
the university and will be marked absent for that day.

6) Quizzes & long exams will be shown to the student but the latter will not retain the originals.
7) In the event the teacher, within the 1 st quarter of the period, is not yet around and no instruction is
being communicated, a class representative must inquire about and secure instructions for the period
from the administrative assistant of the Religion Department.
8) GADGETS (phones must be in silent mode and not used while class is being conducted) They are
absolutely not permitted during quizzes & tests.
