Germany.Thestudystatesthatalmost2millionGermanchildrenliveinfamilieswhohavereceivedwelfareforatleastfiveyears.Children
whoseparentsdependonbasicstatesupport,knownasHartzIV,arealsoconsideredtobepoor.Theresearchersuseddatatakenfromthe
FederalEmploymentAgencyandalongtermstudyontheconsequencesofpovertyforchildrenandyouths.
Frequentlylackingaccesstofreshproduce,poorchildrenareofteninsufficientlynourishedandatriskofillness.Thestudyalsofoundthat
childrenfrompoorhomesareoftensociallyisolated.Theirfamiliescannotaffordschoolexcursions,sportsactivitiesormusiclessons.Poor
childrenoftendonothavetheirownbedroomsand,consequently,noplacetoretreatordotheirhomework.

thepresidentofthechildwelfareorganizationDeutschesKinderhilfswerk,criticizedtheraise,sayingitwouldmakenodifference.
